MOOSES GUIDE TO THE BAHAMAS

Disadvantages: Long flights often stopping at other islands, quite expensive to eat, not good for vegetarians

Paradise Island Hotel Nassua, Bahamas

Advantages: fantastic place to go

...I was lucky enough to go to the Bahamas on holiday in April 2008. In our party there were 3 children and 3 adults. We arrived at the airport to be met by a limousine, we were driven to The Atlantis hotel on Paradise Island?wow what a place. We were able to have a good look round whilst in the Limo, the weather was beautiful and when we arrived at the Hotel, you could see why it was called Paradise!! The hotel was enormous; it had lots of different sections. There is the Royal Towers, Imperial club, Coral Towers, Beach Towers, The Cove Atlantis, The Reef Atlantis, Harbour side Resort, and Special. We stayed in the Coral towers. Our room was large with 2 double beds in. It had a full stocked bar, which was checked daily and re-stocked?..beware, very expensive! There was a large mirrored wardrobe and plenty of drawer space...

...I was really looking forward to this holiday A week in Florida doing the tourist stuff and then a week relaxing in the Bahamas. OK, so I had an image in my mind of what it would be like - and I wasn't far wrong although in my opinion there were some downsides. The first thing that struck me was how laid back they are - to the point of being on the floor!!!!! Maybe it was a shock to the system just coming from Florida and more importantly living in London where everyone is rushing round like Road Runner!! We stayed at the Nassau Beach Hotel which is more of a "basic" hotel so they called it - but I thought it was more like 4 star. First of was to hit the beaches and I was amazed. ...I travelled to The Bahamas in October 2003. Ths was near the end of season but was part of a group travelling for a wedding. We stayed in a resort called Radison Golf Resort which was an all inclusive 5 * Hotel. Flying from the UK took around 9 hours and to be honest wasn't the most pleasant of journeys however you can't expect to travel half way around the world and enjoy every minute of it. I remember stepping of the plane and this furnace of heat just hitting me, i thought firstly that it was the engines of the aeroplane but it was th actual temperature. To depart the airport you have to complete a document so I MUST ADVISE take a pen unless you want to fight with 300 people over the two pens the airport staff had. We travelled to the Hotel and on entering were greeted by the most friendly of staff. Always smiling, always...

...The Bahamas conjures up thoughts of tropical beaches. Before actually going this was all I actually knew about the place itself. I wasn't even sure where it was if I'm honest. It wasn't my place of choice for a holiday. My brother and his girlfriend decided to get married here so it would have been rude not to go wouldn't it?!?! ***THE ISLANDS*** The Bahamas is made up of over 700 islands and cays scattered in the Atlantic. They stretch across 100, 000 square miles from Florida to Cuba and Haiti. Bimini is only 50 miles off the East Coast of Florida. Some of these islands are tiny so its not surprising that only 100 of the islands are inhabited. Some of these are owned my rich and famous people (Johnny Depp is one of these and he bought a private 35 acre island in the Exumas last year). Only 37 of these have settlements on them...

Paradise on a Shoestring

...This morning when I woke up I decided to forgo underwear in favour of a bikini. It's hidden under my work suit, but I know it's there, sitting on my tan lines, acting as a very definite reminder of where I was just a few days ago. I booked a trip to the Bahamas as a birthday present to myself, and as a way to celebrate the end of my summer in the US. Made up of dozens of individual islands, the Bahamas is slightly off the east Florida coast, and as such enjoys pretty decent weather all year round. I went in summer because that was when I was over on this continent, but this is generally marketed as the time to avoid because of the potential hurricane risk. As it happens I was lucky, and had great, clear weather for the whole time I was there, but if you're unlucky / don't want to tempt fate, April to October are the months you should...

Baxi Bahama Baloney

Advantages: Copes well with high pressure feed
Disadvantages: Can't cope at all with dirty water

...We've had our Baxi Bahama for almost 3 years. It supplies 6-7 radiators with ease and due to our very high pressure water, can supply our thermostatic shower during a washing machine fill without much compromise. Our gas bill with this machine dropped by 33% when we ditched our old cast iron hulk, and the paint's peeled off the radiators, 'cos they've never been so HOT! The dust on the pipes under the floors smelled EVER SO cooked for the first week or so. The bathroom grew by 4 feet due to the absence of the hot water tank, and the header tanks were pulled out of the loft (we have direct supply water, this may not be the case for you, especially in the South of England) Then the gas men cut through the water main in the street, and I was the only person drawing water the day they reconnected the supply.
