Disadvantages: Isolated from other resorts

...As you drive down the coastal road past all the resort hotels along the northern coast you'll begin to worry like in that Thomsons (?) advert on the TV that you're driving past all the best hotels! Then as you drive through the less developed towns along the road you'll worry that you're going to end up stuck in some shack in the middle of no-where! But as you turn off the coast road just before reaching the town (village?) of San Juan and into the Bahia Principe grounds you'll wonder what all the worrying was about! As with the other Bahia Principe Hotel in Mexico you first drive down the Hacienda, a short road lined with shops bars and restaurants, the one at San Juan has a hairdressers, a jewellers, a snack bar, a disco, a 'hard rock' bar, the reps building internet access (for footy scores of course!) and various shops selling...

"Its Bahia Principe"

Advantages: The list is endless........
Disadvantages: Not Cancun

...This was the first Bahia Principe resort me and my wife (then girlfriend) visited. We'd booked to go all inclusive to Malta (probably not the best way to do Malta with hindsight) and were all geared up for it until three days before we were due to fly. We got a letter from the travel agents saying there was a change in the circumstances and that our hotel was having building work done. We went into the travel agents and were offered an alternative. After several hours (or so it felt) of staring at a computer screen we found one! Mexico! WOW! Bit of a step up for us (our only other holiday together was to Spain) we had a bit extra to pay but we covered it and got ready for Mehico! Long haul flights are long haul flights and we all get through them in our own ways (good book, crafty bottle of duty free Bacardi and a few cans of Coke...

Bahia Principe

Advantages: Bargain Dominican Luxury
Disadvantages: Remote location (but ok if you want to escape!)

...My boyfriend and I took a holiday in September 2003 at Bahia Principe in Dominican Republic. Opting for an all-inclusive (to help stretch our budget) we were abit apprehensive due to some horror stories we'd heard about all-inclusive's in general. We booked through teletext so managed to get a decent deal. After a long day of travel (including 8 hour flight!) we were ready to collapse by the time we arrived. The first thing that struck us was the lavish grounds of the complex. Next came the charms of the wonderful staff who couldn't do enough for us!!! Our room was spacious and well air conditioned; it was a perfect retreat from the heat! The rooms are spread out in small apartments of 8 rooms, and are surrounded by tropical gardens. One thing worth a mention with regard the rooms is the high standard of daily cleaning...

Christmas at the Bahia Principe.

Advantages: Beautiful place, lovely people, great service and just plain good fun.
Disadvantages: Telephon service goes down regularly though mobile reception was good.

...I visited the Bahia Principe San Juan over Christmas 2007 until New Year 2008. Earlier in the year I had grave doubts about the holiday after reports of people hospitalised with food poisening, dirty rooms etc. Well, in retrospect I was there at the perfect time. All the rooms had been redecorated and a strict hygene regeme was in force such that all visitors to all the restaurants had to clean their hands with a cleaning gel before entering the actual restaurant. The food was excellent with a bewildering choice. Many times I would get my dinner and say to my wife or daughter "I did'nt see that, oh I love that". You get the idea, just too big a choice. The entertainment was not Broadway standard but that said, you dont get to rub shoulders with the stars after Phantom of the Opera. If you can accept the lack of polish, the pleasure is...

Perfect All Inclusive Holiday

Advantages: All inclusive food and drinks, clean, tidy, not too crowded
Disadvantages: Remote place

...My Husband and I visited the Bahia Principe in April/May 2009 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were only there for 5 nights and wished we had booked longer. Our holiday was with First Choice which we booked online. When we arrived at the airport we decided to take a taxi to the hotel as quite often the coach takes you to several before actually getting to the one you want, and with the short stay we'd booked, we wanted to make the most of our time. On booking in we felt it was quite slow at the reception area, however the magnificance and spleandour of reception made up for this!! An elaborate staircase leads down from reception to a large lounge area, where you can either go to the bar for your drinks or help yourself to alcohol, cocktails, tea, coffee or non alcoholic beverages. There is also a small shop in this area...

  "I Want to Buy a Melon!"

...of us for one week all inclusive in March, that was it, I'd booked my first holiday abroad!! I couldn't wait! We didn't do too much research into the island or indeed our resort beforehand, basically we went with the Bahia Principe Hotel in San Juan (on the North of the island) because the travel agent offered us the best rate for this one at the time. I am most definitely pleased she did though as I can't really fault the resort beyond a couple (and I do only mean a couple) of minor niggles. More on those later though. Firstly, let me get back to my holiday memories and review the hotel and the island.... Firstly, San Juan is classed as a city on the island of Republica Dominicana (to call it by its official name!), but their 'cities' are nowt like ours. To us, San Juan looks more like a town I suppose. And a medium sized town...

Fun in the sun - Mexican style!

Advantages: Large rooms, beautiful location, plenty of amenities.
Disadvantages: Distance from airport - approx. 2 hours

...drinks, water, fruit juices, chocolate and crisps (all free!!) The Grand Bahia hotel itself is made up of 3 separate hotel complexes: Akumal, Tulum and Coba. Each hotel can be walked to (about 15 minutes) or there are golf buggy trains that go to each of the complexes throughout the day and night. Great efficient service. Each hotel has it's own beach access, swimming pools, bars, restaurants and facilities. The main restaurants are buffet style for all meals but you are entitled to 3 reservations at the a'la carte restaurants during each week of your stay. The main buffet always has a huge choice of foods for each meal and I can't imagine anyone not being able to find something to eat!! The food always looks fresh and staff are constantly refilling and replacing trays, even when they're not empty. The a'la carte restaurants are...

Honeymoon Highs with very, very few lows

Advantages: All inclusive means you don't need to go anywhere
Disadvantages: A little isolated if you did fancy venturing out.

We had got married the weekend before and had asked for money towards our honeymoon rather than the traditional presents so armed with our cash we went to our local co-op travel agent and bookd, via First Choice a week in the all inclusive 4 star Bahia Principe Costa Adeje. Aparthotel Bahia

Advantages: Excellent location.
Disadvantages: Not many.

...**Opinion ** In my opinion the Aparthotel Bahia is one of the best properties on the Island, not just for the accommodation itself but for its location and access to local amenities. The Aparthotel is a very well presented 4* option situated approximately 1km from San Antonio town with its vast array of nightlife. Making this an ideal location to be in as you are close enough to the nightlife if you want it, yet far enough not to be affected by it if you fancy a relaxing night. The main clientele at this hotel is made up of young people in the high season so can be rather rowdy at times. An absolutely wonderful hotel

Advantages: Spotless, friendly, great food, great supply of drink
Disadvantages: None!!

...After reading many reviews about this hotel knew it would be excellent, but I had no idea just how excellent it would be! Negative points - there are none! We requested a room with a pool view or a seaview and to our delight we received a high up room which had both! The rooms have a good sized balcony and are absolutely spotless. The rooms even have a mini bar which gets filled up every day (always use up the drink that's in it, if you don't they won't give you extra as they just refill what's been used). You get 2 cans of Dorada beer, a can of diet coke, coca-cola, fanta lemon and two bottles of water. There is air-conditioning and also a ceiling fan in the rooms. Overall the room was excellent and extremely clean. The food was also excellent. There are 2 separate buildings to the Bahia and we stayed in the larger building...
