Groundhog Day in San Antonio

Advantages: Great city, plenty to do, see and eat
Disadvantages: Go in season

...Remember the Alamo? Your not kidding, I couldn?t forget it. I walked past it at the same time every morning and night for a week - and a couple of times more for good measure. Not that I should, or want, to paint San Antonio in a bad picture - far from it, its my favourite North American city. Its just a week is perhaps a little too long off season. I will explain. We decided to take our trip to the States (a week in San Antonio for sightseeing and then a few days in Florida to top up the tan) for the first week in November. The reason - the flights are miles cheaper than October. The reason for this - most America's tourism seems to shut down on the night of October the 31st. I would love for the sake of my hands and your eyes to make this a quick review but this just wouldn?t do San Antonio justice - so lets crack on in with this...

Hotel Tropical - Ibiza, San Antonio

Advantages: Great Location, Clean, Nice Rooms, Half Board Hotel
Disadvantages: Expect Noise - 18-30 hotel

'Its Bahia Principe'

Advantages: Top class all inclusive hotel
Disadvantages: Isolated from other resorts

...As you drive down the coastal road past all the resort hotels along the northern coast you'll begin to worry like in that Thomsons (?) advert on the TV that you're driving past all the best hotels! Then as you drive through the less developed towns along the road you'll worry that you're going to end up stuck in some shack in the middle of no-where! But as you turn off the coast road just before reaching the town (village?) of San Juan and into the Bahia Principe grounds you'll wonder what all the worrying was about! As with the other Bahia Principe Hotel in Mexico you first drive down the Hacienda, a short road lined with shops bars and restaurants, the one at San Juan has a hairdressers, a jewellers, a snack bar, a disco, a 'hard rock' bar, the reps building internet access (for footy scores of course!) and various shops selling...

Christmas at the Bahia Principe.

Advantages: Beautiful place, lovely people, great service and just plain good fun.
Disadvantages: Telephon service goes down regularly though mobile reception was good.

...I visited the Bahia Principe San Juan over Christmas 2007 until New Year 2008. Earlier in the year I had grave doubts about the holiday after reports of people hospitalised with food poisening, dirty rooms etc. Well, in retrospect I was there at the perfect time. All the rooms had been redecorated and a strict hygene regeme was in force such that all visitors to all the restaurants had to clean their hands with a cleaning gel before entering the actual restaurant. The food was excellent with a bewildering choice. Many times I would get my dinner and say to my wife or daughter "I did'nt see that, oh I love that". You get the idea, just too big a choice. The entertainment was not Broadway standard but that said, you dont get to rub shoulders with the stars after Phantom of the Opera. If you can accept the lack of polish, the pleasure is...

Advantages: Bargain Dominican Luxury
Disadvantages: Remote location (but ok if you want to escape!)

...My boyfriend and I took a holiday in September 2003 at Bahia Principe in Dominican Republic. Opting for an all-inclusive (to help stretch our budget) we were abit apprehensive due to some horror stories we'd heard about all-inclusive's in general. We booked through teletext so managed to get a decent deal. After a long day of travel (including 8 hour flight!) we were ready to collapse by the time we arrived. The first thing that struck us was the lavish grounds of the complex. Next came the charms of the wonderful staff who couldn't do enough for us!!! Our room was spacious and well air conditioned; it was a perfect retreat from the heat! The rooms are spread out in small apartments of 8 rooms, and are surrounded by tropical gardens. One thing worth a mention with regard the rooms is the high standard of daily cleaning...

Aparthotel Bahia

Advantages: Excellent location.
Disadvantages: Not many.

...**Opinion ** In my opinion the Aparthotel Bahia is one of the best properties on the Island, not just for the accommodation itself but for its location and access to local amenities. The Aparthotel is a very well presented 4* option situated approximately 1km from San Antonio town with its vast array of nightlife. Making this an ideal location to be in as you are close enough to the nightlife if you want it, yet far enough not to be affected by it if you fancy a relaxing night. The main clientele at this hotel is made up of young people in the high season so can be rather rowdy at times. However in the low season it can be a little quieter and the pace is more relaxed. **Hotel** The hotel is situated on a stretch of land between Es Pouet and San Antonio beaches.   "I Want to Buy a Melon!"

...of us for one week all inclusive in March, that was it, I'd booked my first holiday abroad!! I couldn't wait! We didn't do too much research into the island or indeed our resort beforehand, basically we went with the Bahia Principe Hotel in San Juan (on the North of the island) because the travel agent offered us the best rate for this one at the time. I am most definitely pleased she did though as I can't really fault the resort beyond a couple (and I do only mean a couple) of minor niggles. More on those later though. Firstly, let me get back to my holiday memories and review the hotel and the island.... Firstly, San Juan is classed as a city on the island of Republica Dominicana (to call it by its official name!), but their 'cities' are nowt like ours. To us, San Juan looks more like a town I suppose. And a medium sized town...

  SUN, SEA, SANGRIA "SAN ANTONIO BAY IBIZA"

Advantages: A beautiful,clean, friendly, warm and relaxing holiday

...You have probably heard of San Antonio, Ibiza? Some of you may have even been there, it has had a lot of bad publicity over the years, which has encouraged more and more younger people to go, and by so doing has put quite a lot of families and older people off, Please don?t let all you hear put you off of such a beautiful place. I am not actually talking about San Antonio Town, where all the night life, famous night clubs, like Es Paradise where they are open all night and have water parties, or Eden which is another favourite of the youngsters, No I?m talking about the bay, about a mile around the bend from all this, or 10 mins across the water by boat. Advantages: Located right next to the beach and all amenities. pretty clean

...Before I start I have to warn people that the pictures are misleading! The pool is actually on the roof on a main road, doesn?t look like it thought does it? I never managed to get near the pool was too busy. We stayed at this hotel as part of an allocation on arrival deal, therefore were expecting the worse. This wasn?t the worse but it certainly didn?t thrill me either. Being in San Antonio in July I was disappointed to discover this hotel does not have air conditioning in the rooms, and as reception was always very busy I do not know if there are units which can be rented. We chose to buy a cheap fan at a nearby supermarket. The room was very basic, simply bed, table and wardrobe although the bathroom was a fairly good size. There were a few other issues during the week we stayed which I did not find satisfactory; on one...
