...Last week I went to Bakewell for the day and I came home without a Bakewell Tart, the reason being that I would far rather have the mass produced Bakewell Tarts than the ones that are baked to the original recipe. Some of the tarts that are made by the independent bakers are sickeningly sweet even by my standards. Both of us are partial to a Tesco Bakewell tart, for a start they are better value than the Mr kipling variety, unless there is an exceedingly good offer on! Tesco have definitely pitched their packaging at the female shoppers, the tarts are dressed in a cardinal red box with pink accessories. ...THE GOOD I love Tesco's Cherry Bakewell Tarts, heres why: First of all the price for a pack of 6 is £0.73 - bargain! Second the taste, Cherry Bakeweels are made from a crumbling pastry which could be a bit dry if it wasn't for the mixed fruit jam and light almond flavoured sponge in the middle, the bakewell tart is then toped with white icing which is really sweet and a small cherry on top of that. Third, the Bakewell Tarts are small so eating takes about 4 or 5 bites and it fills that sugar craving. THE BAD To some the Bakewell tarts can be a bit too dry and the pastry does crumble quite a lot which causes a mess. ...No from Tesco's :-) I do not often eat these Tesco bakewells but someone had bought them into school the other day so it would have been impolite to refuse one. These bake well tarts came in a box of 6 the box unmistakable and really unremarkable is a red box with a picture of a bakewell tarts adorned with cherry. It cost my friend 72p for the box from our local Tesco shop. I removed the tart from its silver foil tray. The tart I thought was a good size. .It looked quite attractive a pastry case filled with sponge which was topped with a white fondant icing and a half glace cherry perched on top of the icing. I ate the cherry first. Then I bit into the tart and got a mouthful of a pastry sweet a little crumbly the pastry base is quite thick.
