Disappointing Hotel in a Family Friendly Resort

Advantages: Lovely Resort and well equipped hotel
Disadvantages: unfriendly and understaffed

...The Sol Balmoral is a large resort style hotel located in Calas De Majorca a purpose built resort on the quieter side of the island. I stayed there for 7 nights in October 2006 with my husband and two daughters aged 13 and 9 (at the time) on an All Inclusive basis. Check In My first impression of the hotel on arrival was that it was clean and bright. We had to queue at the reception desk to check in. I had booked a double and a twin room but was allocated two twins. When I mentioned this to the receptionist she tutted and grumbled. I said loudly to my husband that she was rude and her tone altered a little. Rooms The rooms were pleasant, clean and bright but very basic. Each room and had a bathroom with shower, toilet and sink which was clean and well kept. There were no facilities to make a drink, no telephone or anything else...

Stay on the Royal Mile

Advantages: Luxurious
Disadvantages: Not cheap

...My husband and I visited Edinburgh for a few days with friends. We found a serviced appartment a mile out of city centre for the first three nights and then splashed out £150 for bed and breakfast at the Balmoral for our last night of the trip. We had heard that it was an amazing hotel and we were, overall not disappointed. RECEPTION AND CHECK IN: The hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming. They took a card for any extras and then checked us in very quickly and efficiently. We were shown to our room by a porter who was very sweet and insisted on asking us about our trip to Edinburgh and recommending places to eat. BEDROOMS: One word - A-MAZ-ING - there is a superking sized bed which was beautifully designed and so comfortable it is unbelievable. Of course there is sky TV (very large) and a desk and sofa too. ...On Saturday 17th October 1998, I walked down the aisle and Married my hubby. It was the happiest day of my life at that point. We had our reception in a hotel down Leith and then left the reception to go away and have a lovely night together. We got in the taxi and I still did not know where we were going. It is a very posh exclusive hotel which I never guessed I would spend my wedding night in. Advantages: See the Beauty of The Coast
Disadvantages: None unless your sea sick

...The two historic vessels operated by Waverley Excursions head office in Glasgow are two of only a few remaining coastal excursion vessels within the UK. The ships themselves can carry around 800 passengers (Waverley is liscenced to carry more) to various destinations and cruises around the British coastline. Recently supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the PS Waverley (last sea going paddle steamer in the world! )has been restored to her beauty, whilest the MV balmoral has began phase one of her regeneration programme. One board both vessels, aft on the main deck there are self service restaurants with a wide variety of snacks, tea, coffee light refreshments and hot meals. This small hotel / guest house is located south of the main River Dee on the South Deeside Road a short distance from the town of Ballater. It is located beside where the healing water still flows & close to the house itself is where Queen Victoria kept her horses during her reign. Her holiday home was Balmoral Castle which is just a short distance away. The old stable block which is now used as a store was where Queen Victoria & John Brown (her gillie) used to come everyday to pick up their horses & go riding. An intimate portrayal of the British Royal Family

The Queen is woken in the night to be told of the news and they gather around the television to watch the news as it unfolds.
