...Baltimore is, what I believe, a super company, well placed to gain optimum growth from the internet revolution. Internet traffic is doubling evry 100 days, and with and increasing number of transcations occuring, baltimore's e-security products will no doubt be in great demand. The company, based in Ireland, has just secured a large deal with Visa and recent results have just shown that the company is in healthy shape and well on the way to profitability. However, investing in this stock is a roller coaster ride. By its nature and the sector, it is highly volatile and I would recommend a long term (1 year plus ) outlook....

...If I had to choose anywhere in the US to go, it wouldn't be here. I had to go to Baltimore for work to present at a conference, otherwise I wouldn't have gone. The conference was from 6-11 May and I'd planned for a couple of days in DC, so this is based on my experiences in Baltimore. I reached Baltimore's Mount Vernon district (to the north of the Inner Harbor, the touristy part) via taxi from the airport. I'd gone through some rather rought looking areas to get there. The area I was in seemed okay and after unpacking, I'd headed out to get some drinks as I was very dehyrated. I believe I then saw the real Baltimore. Advantages: Great song and dance numbers performed by an enthusiastic cast.
Disadvantages: A lack of character development and emotional depth.

Ladder 49: Baltimores burning, wheres the ladder?

Advantages: Visually realistic. Emotionally intense and engaging.
Disadvantages: Some plot aspects either unrealistic or slightly predictable.

...The Plot = The film begins with some fire fighters tackling a blaze in a high rise factory in Baltimore. Some of them are rescuing people from the twelfth floor when Jack Morrison (Joaquin Phoenix) finds his exit cut off. He manages to lower his rescuee down to safety but suddenly there is an explosion and he becomes trapped in the building. As the rest of the crew battle to rescue Jack, we view his life in a series of flashbacks. The first flashback shows Jack's first day at the "firehouse" (presumably the American word for "fire station"). We see him tackle his first fire, bond with the rest of the crew and meet Linda (Jacinda Barrett) who becomes his wife. We see the dangers of the job which involves both extraordinary rescues and death and injury. Finally, the flashbacks finish and we see the conclusion of the rescue...

Fly BWI But Don't Buy

Advantages: Easy to get to and get around
Disadvantages: Not a shopping mall the way Ringway is

...Baltimore Washington International is one of several airports near me now I?m living in the US. The name could be confusing because the two named cities are just over an hour apart and not directly next to each other, meaning the airport, unless exceedingly large, could not be situated in both places at once. As is often the case with airports these days, it?s not really in either as it turns out, but is accessible by both, hence the name. Getting to the airport from the surrounding states (Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia) is not hard, as it is actually served by frequent, reliable public transport, something which cannot be said for the rest of the area I?m based in. From Washington D.C. it takes about an hour, and busses make this trip from outside the terminal every 45 minutes. Amtrak, the main train operator here...

Bland and White Inside

Advantages: Spacious, clean, easy to find where you should be!
Disadvantages: Not very interesting

...BWI (not Bland and White Inside, but Baltimore/Washington International) airport is a mid-sized airport approx. 15 miles from Baltimore, and about 30 miles from Washington. For Baltimore, it is your best choice, but if flying to D.C. fly to Dulles instead, it's nearer. Having spent over 10 hours here, I guess I'm something of an authority. On entering the airport, you will reach one of five departure areas, letters A-E. That which you will enter depends on the airline you're flying with. National airlines are letters A-C, international ones are D-E. If terminal 'E' is anything to go by, it had 8 departure gates. The central non-passenger area in each of the terminals is small, but is peppered with newsagents and gift shops, eager to remove you of the Monopoly-like US dollars. The Wire - The Most Hard Hitting Show Ever Made!

Advantages: Is an excellent programme with some excellent characters and an even better story
Disadvantages: The episodes are 1 hour long and it can be hard to get into.

The first season concentrates on the police as they try to infiltrate the West Baltimore drug ring. The drug ring is headed by Avon Barksdale and his ruthless right hand man Stringer Bell. The police investigation is run by a small team of police, headed up by Lieutentant Daniels, who has a dark past of his own. Throughout the season we see a case that could bring down half of Baltimores major political forces and we see that the drug money runs deep. However, the small team working on the case have to deal with constant problems as the higher powers in police force interfere and try to stop them moving the case forward.
