...People in Britain tend to think of the three ex-Soviet Baltic republics, if they think of them at all, as a uniform group and to assume they're much of a muchness. I have to admit that before I went to the region I rather shared that assumption. Once there, one learns a bit about their individual histories and ethnicities, and observes their differing national characters. The Estonians are polite and efficient, but perhaps somewhat stolid. The Latvians are brisker, sharper and less forthcoming; compared to Tallinn, Riga has an edgy feel. And the Lithuanians? They are sometimes described as the Italians of the region, though I'm not sure that quite does them - or the Italians - justice. But they do seem more easy-going than their neighbours, and there is an offbeat, unconventional side to their nature. Why else would...

I'd picked this up because I love Banana, and a swift glance at the label showed that as well as the obvious Malt, Barley, and Hops, this beer contained real banana. As well as, oddly, banana flavouring . Was I in for a double dose of banana joy ? Well, I wanted to get stuck in and have a taste, so rubbing my hands together and gleefully grabbed the bottle - only to hit a pitfall . Bananas is the clearance website for The Bookpeople - who you may be familiar with as providing cheap books through their website and also often through a buy-on-sight scheme that visits many workplaces and schools. The Book People have been going since 1988, but the clearance website is a newer venture, set up last year I believe. Using the site The website is to be found at www.bananas.co.uk, and this is a website only shop. At first sight it is a bit cheap and cheerful, with pictures of monkeys and bananas everywhere, but it is easy to navigate through the categories of Fiction, Non-fiction and Children's. ...Banana Puffs are a new and limited edition of 'Sugar Puffs'. I actually don't like sugar puffs because I prefer crunchy cereals but seeing as this was on special offer at £1 for 320g box at Asda, I thought it would be worth a try. The box is very appealing to children with the bright yellow box and floaty blue writing saying 'Banana Puffs.' The familiar face of the 'Honey Monster' is featured on the front, holding a banana to his mouth so that he appears to be smiling down on a bowl fulla CG 'Banana puffs.' I think 'Honey Monster Foods' are trying to promote this as a healthy product as the box exclaims - 'No artifical anything' and 'Fortified with vitamins and minerals'. Republic of quality clothing.

Advantages: nice variety of quality clothes and mega fast delivery.
Disadvantages: Some of the clothes are too expensive

You can also pay with a card if you prefer or if you don't have paypal, but I do recommend that you get it. The dress came just two days after she bought it which I thought was nice and fast. The packaging had republic on it so I knew what it was and the dress was lovely. I am very pleased with the quality of their clothing and their speedy delivery. I also recieved an email-reciept and they told me when the order had been dispatched so they really do have great communication skills so you always know what is happening. The dress wasn't creased and she put it on straight away because they had folded it nicely with her reciept in the bag. A 'banana' life saver!

Advantages: No more mushy bananas
Disadvantages: Can be a tight squeeze

...This product is designed to prevent your banana getting battered and bruised in transit, which would make it ideal a public transport commuter or bike rider like me. The guard itself is made of polypropylene plastic with 4 rows of small holes along the entire length. This is so that your banana can 'breathe' thereby preventing it from early ripening. There is a very sturdy locking mechanism (a catch on either end, and one in the middle to hinge it closed) that prevents it from opening whilst in transit. It mainly comes in yellow (it is for a banana after all) but a variety of colours can be found such as purple, green, blue and glow in the dark! Going Bananas!

Advantages: Excellent well balanced beer with a hint of bananas.
Disadvantages: There are bananas - so if you really don't like them you're scuppered!

Go Bananas!

Advantages: Nice taste and smell, cheap, encourages teeth brushing

...Harry has never really been keen on brushing his teeth, but at the moment it seems a constant struggle for us to get his mouth open to even get the toothbrush in! I've tried many different toothpastes to get him to like brushing his teeth but nothing seemed to work. But I went to Tesco last weekend and saw this new Kids toothpaste in 'Banana milkshake' flavour for a bargain price and knowing how much Harry loves all things banana, I figured it was worth a try! As I mentioned, the flavour of the toothpaste is 'Banana Milkshake' and is a toothpaste aimed at young children. Bag a Bunch of Bargain Books from Bananas!

Disadvantages: Limited range, slow delivery

...I first heard about Bananas.co.uk from a review online. The site is a relatively new offshoot of the Book People, essentially operating as a clearance section by selling off older stock at bargain prices. All different types of book can be found on the site but there seemed considerably more choice available in the children's section than in the adults', certainly as far as fiction goes. There are also non-fiction titles available, including autobiographies and cookery books. There really is something for everyone here although, admittedly, there are not as many titles available as you would expect from a mainstream site, rather than a clearance booksellers. The site was easy to use with all the books available being placed under different categories. There was also a seperate search function if you were looking for a specific title...
