A Pint at the Bank!

Advantages: Cheap Prices
Disadvantages: Bit Dull and Drab

...Situated at 1-3 Market Place right in the centre of Sheffield lies the Banker's Draft. For many years this place has always had a bit of a reputation as a dull, drab smoky place where the market crowds and down and outs hung out. However at the back end of last year JD Wetherspoons who own this place decided to give it a bit of a facelift and suddenly the Banker's Draft re-invented itself as one of their more prestige Lloyds No.1 Bars. The History It is little surprise as its name suggests that this place spent most of its life as a bank. Occupying a prime location in the city centre it is now ideally situated next to the main bus stops and tram stops and only a short walk from the main bus interchange. The building itself is quite impressive, from the outside at least. A large mid-Victorian building occupying a prime corner...

the bank job

Advantages: some parts of the film are interesting to watch
Disadvantages: No jokes, no nudity, no real action.

...a loan shark criminal gangster to terrorise victims and get his job done. Its a British film, based on a true story supposedly. It's the true story of the 1971 Baker Street bank robbery. The film highlights the criminal backgrounds of the robbers, and the people behind the robbery as criminals, drug traffickers, brothel owners and prostitution participants in one form or another. The film also illustrated the civil rights movement using screenames such as Michael X and Hakeem as obvious civil rights leading figures during this movement in world history. What happens basically a woman with the screen name Martine and Terry and his friends from London get involved in a misleading attempt at a bank robbery where it is suggested that nothing will go wrong, The London based gang are led to believe that money is the only motive behind...

Lloyds banking

Advantages: Easy way to keep track of finances
Disadvantages: Can be slow at times

...Lloyds TSB internet banking lets you manage your finances, apply for loans, credit cards, mortgages & pay off bills from home or anywhere with internet access. It seems very secure, you have a 9 digit username which is randomly given to you to prevent people guessing then you have a password which much be more than 6 digits & preferably a mix of letters & numbers. You then also have to enter your memorable information which very similar to a password therefore can be pretty much anything you want it to be as long as you can remember it! It can sometimes be irritating having to enter this infomation every single time not to mention time consuming if you're in a rush to check your account balance but it does make it that little bit more secure & give you the extra peace of mind that your finances are secure. Once you have...

Barclays Bank - $££%%&^%^%**&*&@%!!!!!

Advantages: (+) expansive range
Disadvantages: (-) too many to mention...poor service, increasing prices, made many mistakes w/ my account

...Little bit of history: I first opened an account with Barclays Bank when I was 11 years old after being recommended by a school friend and her Mother. I had the normal savings account - a bank card to use at the ATM and bank branch itself, with a daily £50 limit. Between the ages of 11 and 15 I had no problems with the bank, until of course when I was 16; a week before my 16th Birthday my account was updated/upgraded. I now had a chip+pin card but my account was essentially the same as before. However, one difference was that I now had £100 daily limit instead of the former £50. This was agreed in my contract which I\'d received in the post around my 16th b.day. This is when the problems started. Thinking I had £100 to spend each day, I went shopping with friends and had planned to buy some Nike trainers costing £85. These were my...

Worst of the 'BIG FOUR' Banks

Advantages: Lots of branches, Free pens always in stock
Disadvantages: Inefficient and poorly trained staff, Fees, uncompetitive rates, HUGE queues

...I had decided to open an account with Barclays for the convenience of being able to pay money in at Barclays branches for occasions when none of my other banks' branches are nearby. This is important to me because I do receive a lot of cheques and Internet banking just doesn't help. OPENING AN ACCOUNT I took ID, credit and bank statements into my nearest Barclays bank, and waited in the waiting area until I was called up. When it was my turn, I was called over by a young male and invited to his desk where he preceded to enter my details into his computer. When completed, I was told that I couldn't have a Current account because my credit score isn't good enough. Poor start, but I was recommended a more basic current account, which I was happy with since I could still pay in at branches with it. I filled in a paper form...

BANKING ALL NIGHT LONG

Advantages: See review
Disadvantages: See review

...no charge for standard products such as statements (at whatever regularity you specify), chequebooks or a debit card. As long as you stay within the rules, a Barclays Bank account should therefore cost you nothing. Unfortunately, that isn't quite the case. One thing I have always objected to with Barclays is that they have some rather unnecessary fees associated with services that you may need every once in a while. To prepare and provide a banker's draft will cost you £10 (it's nothing more than a guaranteed cheque) and written banking references are debited to your account at £15 a time. They also charge horrendous handling fees on foreign commission. To be fair to them, however, their fee structure has worked both ways for me. I once had to challenge a debit card transaction that I didn't recognise. I completed the paperwork, sent...

Me and banks

Advantages: All round a great service
Disadvantages: None really

...Me and banks never used to get on too well ... back in the 1980's, in common with many other poor unfortunates, I got into some fairly tricky financial situations. In the early years of the Thatcher era, when there was all that dogma about the market and letting the weakest go to the wall, money was easy to get hold of. The housing market was storming ahead with enormous price rises from owning a bit of bricks and mortar and people were falling over themselves to offer you cheap loans and overdrafts. At the time, I had just moved to Basingstoke in Hampshire with a new job and we were lucky enough to jump onto the housing bandwagon. (Stick with it, I'll get there eventually...) We used to have a two bed terraced house in Stafford which we managed to flog in 1985 for about £18,000. When we got down to Basingstoke, we managed to...

Worst Internet Banking Site Ever!

Advantages: Does the job, Free antivirus, Secure with PINSentry
Disadvantages: Only 1 month worth of statements is accessible, PINSentry, Not user friendly to do some things

...INTRODUCTION Barclays.co.uk is obviously Barclays Bank's website. The majority of visitors will go there to look up information on products, find contact details, apply for products and to use the online banking service. The site has quite a lot of information on the home page but different types of products (Current accounts, Insurance, Loans, Savings, etc) and different user groups (i.e. Personal, Premier, Business, Commercial Banking) and divided into separate sections so you can filter down into what you're looking for. There are usually a number of banners and graphics advertising current offers. I think the site looks quite professional, with the exception of one thing. At the moment, I see a number of light green links linking to products of certain categories of products. These are over a white background and although this is...

Big Service from the Big Bank

Advantages: Great customer service
Disadvantages: Some people just love to hate banks!

...overdraft facility by more than £50, you will be charged £20. This may happen on up to 3 occasions per month! However, if an item is returned unpaid and you have been charged an account fee, you will not also be charged a fee for the returned item. But, if you have already used your allocation of account fees, you will be charged £25 per item returned unpaid. Therefore, it pays to keep track of your bank account or arrange an increased facility if you think you will need it! There are no transaction charges on personal accounts, although there are on business accounts. On personal accounts, all normal banking transactions are free, although some specific services (such as Bank Drafts) do attract a fee. Statements are free providing you do not want more than one per month. If you do, you will be charged. BRANCHES Barclays has over 2000...

Halifax online banking

Advantages: Manage all your financial transactions online
Disadvantages: can't deposit!

...have been a customer of the Halifax Bank for over 30 years now. When they first introduced on line banking I immediately signed up to this and what a boon it has been! Signing up is an easy process and you are required to choose a user name and password and to provide answers to several security questions. Once you have received your logging in details from the Halifax signing in is simple. You just have to log in with your user name, password and the answer to a security question. On gaining access to your acount your account information will be displayed. It is possible to have most of your accounts included in the online service including current accounts, mortgages, loans, credit cards etc Once you have registered you are able to conduct most of your banking transactions online including setting up standing orders and direct...
