Refined Dining!
Advantages: Excellent food and atmosphere, good service
Disadvantages: make sure you don't tip twice
...We were very lucky to receive a Red Letter Day experience gift at Christmas which involved a trip to the theatre and dinner for two at a nearby restaurant. Having settled on 'We Will Rock You' at the Dominion Theatre for our show, we were allocated a pre-theatre meal at the Creation Bar and Restaurant which is part of the OLd Kenilworth Hotel.
The Creation Restaurant is at 97 Great Russell Street in Bloomsbury literally only a five minute walk from the Dominion. As it's not quite on a main road you might not know it was there and indeed at six o'clock on a Tuesdau evening it was not very busy at all.
We were greeted by very friendly staff who were most attentive throughout our meal - probably more so than they would have been if they were busier. We were quickly seated at a table, provided with menus and served drinks.
As we...

Not Completely 'Corr!' At The Wheatsheaf in Corbridge
Advantages: Free secure parking for patrons, delicious main course
Disadvantages: Cutlery in a jug on table (yuk), deserts where over priced and disappointing, loo's a bit messy.
...unmissable as you enter Corbridge from the west side, being the first large hotel you see.
One major attraction in our decision to choose the Wheatsheaf was it's secure off road parking for patrons. Having stopped by in Corbridge a few times beforehand we had had difficulty parking on roadsides and parking tolls were pretty steep. This car park was free, although you had to pass a lever arm to get in and obtain a code from the bar staff to exit to stop abuse of the facility.
Entering the bar and restaurant of the hotel I was momentarily disorientated as it's quite dark. A formal conservatory restaurant is situated to your right, however we wanted to eat in the less formal bar area, and were greeted and shown through by a friendly waitress. We were quite late to be eating lunch, it was after 2 pm, fortunately this bar/restaurant serve food all...

My Choice. Will you make it yours?
Advantages: Great food freshly prepared from local ingredients
Disadvantages: None if you live in Manchester otherwise a long way to go
...Where is it:
Choice Bar and Restaurant, Castle Quay, Manchester, M15 4NT
Choice Bar and restaurant is on Castle Quay in the Castlefield area of Manchester. When you approach it from the road it does not look like a restaurant at all, there is a small free car park as you turn left off the road. Once you have parked your car you then walk down towards the canal and the restaurant is on your right. It looks onto the Castle Quay and has a large area in front of it where you can eat outside in nice weather. In the winter the tables and chairs are piled up and the area is just empty. The view looking out from the restaurant down the quay and canal is very pleasant and relaxing and you could imagine that you were not in the middle of one of Britain's largest cities. There are a few canal boats and on the day we went most recently (Jan...

Turkish Temptations fire up Finchley
Advantages: Delicious menu at a reasonable price
Disadvantages: Gets very busy - booking essential at weekends
...Nestling in the wastelands of Zone 3 of the Northern Line, East Finchley is perhaps not the first place you would look for a night out. A village with a modest high street and definite suburban feel, East Finchley is a nice place to live, but the destination for a night of gourmet cuisine?
The Meze Bar Restaurant is situated on Finchley High Road; from East Finchley station you walk up the main road for approximately ten minutes and its on the right hand side, with an unmistakable frontage of huge glass windows and red awnings. The first thing that you'll probably notice however is the amount of people in the restaurant - whatever the time of day the restaurant is often packed, and during the warmer months tables outside are heaving as well. At the weekend a reservation is essential; for a Saturday night table for two its advisable...

Bar Restaurant La Sirena - Llafranc
Advantages: NONE
Disadvantages: Unable to get service
...I visited Bar/Restaurant La Sirena in Llafranc, looking forward to enjoy their tapas and share with a family of friends at a location facing the sea.
I had heard that the food at La Sirena is quite good so I was looking forward to dinner that night, but nothing would have prepared me with what I had to face there.
The man who received us at the door was not only now willing to accommodate us as a group, but also rude to the point of saying: "this is my restaurant/home, and you will do as I say".
I truly tried to find middle ground because I wanted to eat there, but it was impossible ... the man was beyond reason and I was left with 6 hungry guests at my side. I was livid.
I do not consider myself an obnoxious guest, mainly because I myself have worked in a restaurant serving people and know well that courtesy to those who...

Stick to Quarks Bar and Restaurant
Advantages: Motion simulators can be a bit of fun
Disadvantages: Terrible organisation, too pricey, too little of an experience
...We had dined at Quark's Bar and Restaurant before embarking on the Star Trek Experience and although I had never seen an epsiode of Star Trek (my husband is a fan), I had a fantastic time at the restaurant with the themed drinks, the atmosphere, and the characters walking round to have pictures taken with diners and engaging in some dialogue.
We then decided to see the Star Trek Experience but this was found to be a disappointment. We booked tickets for the experience and the behind-the-scenes tour which we found to be very expensive. There was the option of also adding on to that the price of a photograph of you sitting in the captains chair but we thought the rpice expensive enough without that. We walked around the scenery for a while looking at cardboard cutouts of the characters and pictures of the ship etc but the main...

An Oasis in East London
Advantages: Home cooked fresh food, pleasant atmosphere
Disadvantages: Drinks can be pricey, relaxed service is not for everyone.
...the main downstairs dining area and in the function area upstairs, but for the purpose of this review I am going to write about my most recent visit, last Saturday lunchtime.
Arrival and Atmosphere
We arrived about 12.15 pm and were the first customers so had a choice of seating ourselves anywhere in the restaurant. The place is very laid back, you are not greeted and fussed over, we were invited to sit where we liked. We considered the table at the front as the light is better (my step-dad's eyesight isn't very good these days and the restaurant is quite dimly lit towards the back), but fearing a draught every time the door opened we went towards the back. The restaurant is narrow with heavy wooden tables and mismatched, cushioned chairs running along each side and the large bar is at the back. There is no seating at the bar...

A great hotel to stay at when visiting Edinburgh
Advantages: Plenty to do and see, within walking distance
Disadvantages: None
...and partner - bargain!
I always find that these hotels are clean, modern and comfortable with Continental Breakfast included in the price , you really can't go wrong.
This particular hotel is situated on Ocean Drive, Leith, which is an area of Edinburgh which has benefitted from a lot of upgrading and new bars, restaurants, shops and visitor attractions in recent years.
We arrived by car, and there is a car park at the hotel. It is free to park your car which is a bonus as some hotels now charge you a daily rate to park your car!
It overlooks the Firth of Forth and Ocean Terminal, which is a large indoor shopping centre on the waterfront, and also where the Royal Yacht Britannia is situated. You can enjoy a meal, a drink or coffee in one of the many cafe bars/restaurants enjoying the view of the Firth of Forth, the Yacht and often naval frigates...

A hotel with a great location, great view
Advantages: great location, great view
Disadvantages: room is a little bit old, not best for money choice
...I have been to this hotel on August 26, 2007. It has a nice location, just on the most attractive street, Robson street, namely in the heart of Vancouver. Definitely a downtown hotel, where has a colorful night life. On the both sides of the street are full of bars, restaurants, shops. It is one of the best place to enjoy oriental food there, Japanese food, Thai food, Chinese food, Korean food. Short walking distance to the famous Stanley park. Aslo the largest shopping malls are on the opposite site of the Stanley Park. Great location.
As for the building itself. An magnificient view from out side. Especially when you are on one of the top floor, you can overview the whole Vancouver. Great view.
Some disappointments: the room is a little bit old, not as modern as you expect from outside....

Laguna Park mountain climbing!!!
Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Up at the top of a steep hill
...My husband and I stayed here last year for 1 week. The place it's self was fine, room clean, clean sheets and towels aplenty. The problem with this complex is you have a long walk down to shop, bars, restaurant etc. It is a very steep hill, which I found difficult to say the least. Coming back up was worse. I suffer arthritis and this did me no favours.
Certainly NOT SUITABLE for anyone with problems walking, or using a wheel chair. They do run a bus down to the beach, when they feel like it. We had to several times get a taxi as no bus driver, bus in garage, or they had even changed times of running.
The staff were friendly as was the manager, who did offer me the use of an electric buggy to drive down the steep slope to the lift to go down to the swimming pool. Quite a trek down there.
It is probably best suited to young...
