You're Barred
Advantages: Fun, free, learn new things, make friends, free food
Disadvantages: The lack of sleep
...~~~ What is a Bar Camp? ~~~
A Bar Camp is an unconference.
At a conference, there are often people hired to speak on a given topic and guests will listen. At a Bar Camp, there are no hired speakers. The same people that attend the talks will be giving them.
The original Bar Camp and all of the London ones last for a weekend. Some of the smaller ones only last for one day. During the unconference there are several time slots and several rooms available. Those who wish to give a talk, on whatever subject they feel like, will write choose a room and a time slot. Everyone is strongly encouraged to give a presentation on something, but no one actually enforces this rule. At some of the smaller Bar Camps, there might not be enough time for everyone to talk.
Bar Camps are aimed at tech geeks. This means that a lot of the talks...

LONDON'S CALLING
Advantages: Pleasent stay, good food, central location
Disadvantages: Views from room
...eateries/drinking places and chose 372, which offers carvery selection. I was surprise how hot and fresh the food was. Not only that it was tasty too! We opted for lamb with roast potatoes, new potatoes and three vegetables. However, my only complaint about the meal was the vegetables; they were a tad on the raw side for my liking. That said I ALWAYS OVER cook my veggies. Dessert was for me home made apple pie and cream, while the other half opted for home made cheesecake ? both were consumed without any complaints and very much enjoyed. Our meal for two with drinks cost £29)
Hotel: the hotel it situated in the Strand which is in central London and easy to walk to theatres such as the Aldwych, Lyceum, and many more. Come out the front of the hotel and turn right, and you?ll be heading towards Trafalgar square with Nelson, bear left and you...

Stranded in London!
Advantages: Excellent central location; good bars and restaurants
Disadvantages: Rooms a bit old fashioned; a little pricey
..." - the inner courtyard of the hotel with the humming air conditioners at the bottom. I can live (or sleep) with that, but there was also an awful rattling, like pipes, coming from somewhere in the ceiling. We went back downstairs to complain, and were told there were no other rooms. After standing our ground they eventually checked us in to an alternative room on the 4th floor. A little bigger, but still not brilliant - probably "average", from past business stays down in London hotels. The reception staff weren't particularly friendly, as other reviews have mentioned.
Despite being "club" rooms, all that appeared to be different was the decor. Instead of old-fashioned wall-to-wall flowerey decor and furnishings, it was plain duck-egg walls, and a "modern" bed (faux-leather headboard and plain brown and green blankets). Not worth the extra money...

Why Elvy's waxing lyrical about 'Wax Bar'...
Advantages: Great atmosphere, reasonably priced drinks, funky clientele
Disadvantages: Name must be on the guestlist for Saturday nite entry
...I went to this fantastic club for the ex's birthday towards the end of August-you know the scenario; its one of those 'look-what-you're-missing-and-what-you'll-never-have-again' opportunities so, in true Elvy style, I wasn't gonna miss this for the world....
'Of course I'll be there...where is it? 'Wax Bar'? Where's that?'
I'd never heard of this place before but then somebody told me it was the old 'Bar Madrid' and my heart sank. Now for all of you Ciaoers who go clubbing regularly in London, you will know that said 'Madrid' is the equivalent of a clubber's 'national joke.' YOu know how we joke about the Irish; well substiute 'Irish' for 'Bar Madrid' and you pretty much get the idea...Harsh? Well maybe. But back in the day this place was definately NOT the place in which any self-respecting fashionista would want to be seen...

LUXURY IN LONDON!
Advantages: Brilliant rooms, service, food, internet etc
Disadvantages: expensive!!!
...In the middle of February, I was lucky enough to be whisked away for a long weekend in London with my grandma. I?m a huge fan of west end shows and musicals, and so our trip was booked- we would go and see various different shows. I couldn?t wait to go.
One thing I hadn?t thought of before going however was which hotel we were staying in. I reckoned that we wouldn?t be spending too much time in the hotel itself, as we were going to be very busy, so as long as it had two beds, a bathroom and some sort of wardrobe I?d have been happy. I knew the name of the hotel was The Grosvenor, however I didn?t have a clue what its reviews were like, or in fact how many stars it had.
Getting to the hotel
We had absolutely no problem finding the hotel. We took the train from our hometown, to King?s Cross in London. We only had to wait...

K Bar or....Gay Bar
Advantages: Some cheap drinks promotions.
Disadvantages: Its quite crap really!
...the same standards. It was known locally as the 'Gay Bar', resulting from the kind of crowd that it pulled in. As a result one had to be careful which night that they went on, so not to give the wrong impression to the clientele!!!
Two of by best friends worked as bar staff, and were sometimes required to move around to other K bars in London when they had staff shortages. They told me that the K bar in Putney was a 'typical' example of any of the others. Therefore it is fair to assume the basis of my opinion on this Putney version.
Overall the quality of the bar was incredibly poor. The reason that myself and my friends went so often was due to its proximity, as well as the fact that many people from my uni also went. It was a case that we just could not always be bothered to go into the centre for the bars in London. Besides- we could...

The Mighty Mars Bar
Advantages: Classic chocolate bar
Disadvantages: They changed the nougat filling
...This is perhaps the most classic chocolate bar from my childhood. It has long been my favourite as a kid and I sort of have to say it still is so as not to feel as if I have disowned it (sorry Mars Bar but I have found other favourites - I still love you though!).
'A Mars a day helps you work rest and play' - this was the little catchphrase that was associated with Mars Bar. Funny really; it's like saying a chocolate bar a day is good for you. The slogan has now changed to 'Pleasure you can't measure' which definitely seems more appropriate.
A standard Mars bar comes at 58g, about 11cm long and 1.8cm high. You'll pay about 32p for this bar in supermarkets which is well below the norm of 50p. They used to be more expensive but in recent years, the classic nougat and caramel filling has obviously lost its appeal as new and more...

It Works for me....sometimes....!
Advantages: Cheap. Good for buying presents.
Disadvantages: Sell a lot of titles you've never heard of....
...The Works is a discount bookstore which can be found on many high streets. I have browsed around a fair few discount bookstores, but have always found this store to be the best in it?s class. Overall, I tend to find that a lot of discount bookstores sell a lot of uninteresting titles, & books you?ve never heard of. The Works does also fall into this category, but seems to also sell more bestsellers than other stores (often current ones at that), covering a wide range of authors. Books are laid out according to genre & are for the most part stacked on shelves with the cover facing forwards, so that you can see at a glance what titles are in stock. The more popular fiction & bestsellers are laid out on tables at the front of the store, with reference books & childrens books being on shelves running down the sides & back of the store...

School Bars? But i take them to work......
Advantages: Cheap, tasty, nutritious, no added sugar
Disadvantages: Too small!
...sweet. But, most importantly of all, Chloe loves them! I've been putting them in her lunches for her a few times a week and she really likes them, especially the strawberry and cherry varieties. And I have to admit, that even though I bought them with Chloe in mind, I've been taking them to work with me as a quick snack for on my breaks!
The only slight downside is that the bars are very small - 3 or 4 bites (perhaps more for children) and they're gone.
The school bars also have quite a long shelf-life - the pack I bought yesterday has a bbe of 26/10/07, so you can easily stock up without having to worry about them going out of date.
All in all I'm very pleased I decided to try these bars. They're cheap, tasty, and great for a quick snack for kids and big kids alike!...

BUZZ BAR- Leicester Sqaure's HIDDEN Party Spot!
Advantages: FUN, CHEAP, YOUNG, FRESH! The Hidden party Place!
Disadvantages: Closes early and men over-do the Sleez sometimes!
...If I wasn't told about this venue before I set out to Leicester Square, I'd never have found this place!
DIRECTIONS:
If you come out of Leicester Square Station, head towards the main square with the big cinemas. Once you pass this, head for the big corner McDonalds and turn left! Walk 100 metres, cross to the otherside of the road. and you;ll see a small entrance with a vertical sign saying BUZZ BAR - You're there!
BUZZ BAR:
Everytime I've been there, I've had loads of fun! If you're going with a group of friends, get there for about 8pm. That way you'll have time to have a few drinks before the dance floor opens. I've only been there on Fridays and Saturdays and each time it's only been £2 entry fee! Bargain! You pay at the counter on the left as you enter the venue. If you have any excess items, there is a cloak-room just...
