Purple sprouting broccoli is good for you
Advantages: easy to grow
Disadvantages: none
...Broccoli purple sprouting broccoli.
----------------
I don?t know where my head was last year but somehow my garden has no purple sprouting broccoli this spring shame as I really like this vegetable. (I think possibly we were so busy sorting out my recently Dads affairs)
Purple sprouting broccoli is a brassica a cabbage.
Broccoli grows to about 2 foot tall 60 cm. green cabbage like leaves growing up the stalk then a small purple coloured flower bud head on top and lots of shoots sprouting from the stem by the leaves these shoots have purple coloured flower buds too.
The shoots grow to about 5 inches 12 cm long.
I was tidying up my greenhouse yesterday and found a pack of broccoli seeds so will be sowing these in March.
I note the packet of seeds I have cost around £2.00 I bought mine at the garden centre...

Brilliant broccoli!
Advantages: tastes great, healthy, versatile, looks like a mini tree!
Disadvantages: dies if left too long
...Broccoli, broccoli, broccoli. Perhaps one of the most disliked vegetables? Following brussles prouts! However, i have a strong love for this green tree like vegetable!
Broccoli is good for you! Just like most other natural green things! It is rich in Vitamin C, which is a powerful antioxidant. It helps to maintain healthy skin and eyes as well as a strong immune system. Broccoli is also high in fibre to aid digestion. It has also been found to contain chemicals which are linked to reducing cancer!
However, when broccoli is boiled, some of the nutrients are lost. It is much healthier to steam the broccoli so that it is still crispy. Delicious!!!
Broccoli is a very versatile vegetable. It can be used in many different tasty dishes. It is brilliant in stir fries to add a bit of bite. Broccoli soup is brilliant! Especially...

Quick yummy salmon and broccoli
Advantages: Tastes delicious, lovely salmon flavour
Disadvantages: small portion size
...My husband turned up last night after a late shift with a Weight Watchers Salmon and Broccoli Wedge Melt for me as I always moan how hungry I am if I've stayed up for him coming home and then moan again that I've got to fish something out of the cupboard or fridge and cook it. I was very grateful as it sounded delicious but decided to wait until tea time today to eat it so I popped it in the freezer. After cooking my kids dinner, I was starting to feel hungry and couldn't be bothered to wait for this to cook in the oven (45 minutes after pre heating oven) so decided to bung it in the microwave instead. 9 minutes if you have a 750W microwave, 8 minutes if you have a 850W. Mine is 900W so I took the plastic tray out of the box, peeled up the corner (no time to stab the plastic, I was starving!), shoved it in the microwave and turned it...

Bendy Barbara
Advantages: Good introduction
Disadvantages: Doesn't last long
...I wanted a basic introduction to yoga before I embarrased myself down the local gym by taking a class. After all, we're not born knowing how to tell a tree balance from an eagle balance.
Anyway, after getting a free 10-minute Barbara Currie video with a magazine which whet my apetite, I thought i'd give this video a try.
Barbara herself talks you through the poses as she does them. There are also 2 of her 'students' standing behind her, one demonstrating the beginners level of each posture and the other what you can achieve when you are more advanced.
The workout is set in a light airy studio with soft, relaxing music in the background. Barbara is very calming to listen to, she has a light lilting voice that talks you through everthing slowly. The emphasis is very much on taking things at your own pace and level. The video is...

Barbara Vine aka Ruth Rendell
Advantages: An excellent book by a versatile writer
Disadvantages: Some may find it a little slow-moving
...Introduction
I have been quite critical of Ruth Rendell in some past reviews - her books range from the brilliant to the really bad - but I have to admit she is the most versatile of writers. I knew before I started this book that Barbara Vine was a pen-name for Ruth Rendell; had I not known, there is no way in a million years I would have guessed that this book was by the same author as the Wexford novels. I have not read any of Barbara Vine's books before, but expected something along the lines of a psychological thriller, such as those by Nicci French. What I got was a really well-written novel describing one man's efforts to write a biography of his great-grandfather, who happened to be a top physician to Queen Victoria, and who turns out to have some complicated happenings in his life. The writing is altogether of a different level...

Greek myth - Barbara Vine style
Advantages: Engrossing psychological drama
Disadvantages: Pace may be too slow for some readers
..."The Minotaur" is the twelfth and most recent novel by Barbara Vine, who is, of course, the alter ego of the highly successful crime novelist Ruth Rendell. The Vine novels are, I think, intended to be the darker, more psychological, less crime-genre side of Rendell's writing, giving her the opportunity to branch out in new directions? although to be honest, I'm not convinced they are really all that much different from the (non-Wexford) novels she writes under her own name.
The story is narrated by Kerstin Kvist, who as a young woman in the late 1960s comes from Sweden to the Essex countryside in order to work for the Cosway family; ostensibly, as a carer for John, the mentally-ill thirty-nine year old son of the family. Kerstin's main motivation is to be closer to her London-based boyfriend; however, she is also intrigued by...

Barbara Currie 7 Secrets Of Yoga
Advantages: Ten minute sections so you can go at your own pace
Disadvantages: None
...I decided to get a yoga video and it was pointed out to me, that the best video to get would be Barbara Currie as she is 58 years old and what she looks like speaks for itself. Getting excercise videos from the latest star who has brought one out, may be all well and good, but be realistic we are never going to look like them. This lady looks like she is in her 30's and all from yoga, so she must be doing something right.
The video was bought from Amazon.co.uk for £9.99 £3 off recommended price.
This video caters for beginners and advanced users, there are 3 people on the video, Barbara Currie and 2 other ladies, one demonstrates the beginners exercises and the other lady demonstrates the advanced, it is so easy to follow.
There are eight 10 minute sections to this video, so you can do each section at your leisure...

Santa Barbara in November
Advantages: Weather, scenery, shopping, eating, beaches.
Disadvantages: too far away from Britain to visit for a weekend
...I visited Santa Barbara form the UK with my girlfriend in November 1999. We were on a round trip of California and Santa Barbara broke up the drive from LA to San Francisco.
The moment we arrived we fell in love with the beautiful mountainous backdrops and the great beaches and ocean front.
The main centre of activity in Santa Barbara streches from the pier right the way up Main Street. The pier streces out into the Pacific quite a way and gives great views of the Santa Barbara area and coastline. Main Street streches for about a mile and a half through SB and is great for shopping and eating. The continental-style restaurants are great for sitting out in the sun and people watching whilst the shopping caters for all tastes with specialist stores sitting alongside big names like Macys and The Gap.
We hadn't pre-booked accomodation but...

Anyone Fancy A Quiche??
Advantages: Good value for money, full of flavour, filling
Disadvantages: Only avialble at Tesco, difficult to get out of foil base
...With me being a vegetarian, I am sometimes limited as to what quiches I can eat. One of my favourites is the Tesco Broccoli Quiche.
Packaging
The quiche comes in a green box with a picture of the quiche on the front with Tesco Broccoli quiche written on the front. On the back is all the usual information such as ingredients, cooking instructions and weight. The quiche I am reviewing is a 400 gram quiche.
Price
Obviously, this quiche is only available in Tesco and here it costs £2.80 for two which I consider to be reasonable. The best thing is that this special offer is one of Tesco?s ?long term offers? which means they are pretty much always available for that price.
If you just want to buy the one quiche then they are £1.48 each.
Sizes
These quiches come in two sizes - the small sizes (not sure of exact weight) that are...

Broccoli and Stilton......meh.
Advantages: Good, clear packaging, creamy taste
Disadvantages: Main flavours lacking and poor consistancy.
...I had decided to buy this particular soup as i am a fan of both Broccoli and Stilton and have tried several soups in the past and enjoyed them to varying degrees.
This was the 600g carton on offer at Tesco for 98p, down from the usual price of £1.97.
The packaging is a standard "Pure-Pak" milk carton type with a fairly plain photo on the front, but very informative. Ingredients and nutritional information are very clear on the back of the package along with the allergy advice which in this case warns of milk and possible nut trace in the contents. One other side is taken up with the spiel about the soup itself and "food as it should be". The final side is taken with Storage (can be frozen by the way), cooking and company contact information.
I decided to cook the soup in the microwave, following the instructions on the pack. I...
