FREE DVDs
Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review
...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them.
∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊
Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

Bendy Barbara
Advantages: Good introduction
Disadvantages: Doesn't last long
...I wanted a basic introduction to yoga before I embarrased myself down the local gym by taking a class. After all, we're not born knowing how to tell a tree balance from an eagle balance.
Anyway, after getting a free 10-minute Barbara Currie video with a magazine which whet my apetite, I thought i'd give this video a try.
Barbara herself talks you through the poses as she does them. There are also 2 of her 'students' standing behind her, one demonstrating the beginners level of each posture and the other what you can achieve when you are more advanced.
The workout is set in a light airy studio with soft, relaxing music in the background. Barbara is very calming to listen to, she has a light lilting voice that talks you through everthing slowly. The emphasis is very much on taking things at your own pace and level. The video is...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54
Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.
...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied.
On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

In like Flynn
Advantages: An interesting insight to one of the big hollywood stars
Disadvantages: can sometimes be overwhelmed by the information
...Errol Flynn was a man who blagged his way into Hollywood. A man who was basically a con man with the prerequisite wit and charm. He was the new swashbuckler of Hollywood Films often doing his stunts himself.
But he became more famous for his activities off the screen than on. Flynn was notorious for his drinking binges and high spirited bacchanalia. David Bret talks not only about his films career but also Flynn?s staggering appetite for young men and underage girls, his controversial background as a slave trader and prospector in New Guinea, involvement in the Spanish Civil War and his later support for Castro.
This book is an amazing, if sometimes intense read. The information about Flynn?s background is startling, not just because of the different moral code that we live by today, but because Flynn was able to get away with it...

Barbara Vine aka Ruth Rendell
Advantages: An excellent book by a versatile writer
Disadvantages: Some may find it a little slow-moving
...Introduction
I have been quite critical of Ruth Rendell in some past reviews - her books range from the brilliant to the really bad - but I have to admit she is the most versatile of writers. I knew before I started this book that Barbara Vine was a pen-name for Ruth Rendell; had I not known, there is no way in a million years I would have guessed that this book was by the same author as the Wexford novels. I have not read any of Barbara Vine's books before, but expected something along the lines of a psychological thriller, such as those by Nicci French. What I got was a really well-written novel describing one man's efforts to write a biography of his great-grandfather, who happened to be a top physician to Queen Victoria, and who turns out to have some complicated happenings in his life. The writing is altogether of a different level...

Greek myth - Barbara Vine style
Advantages: Engrossing psychological drama
Disadvantages: Pace may be too slow for some readers
..."The Minotaur" is the twelfth and most recent novel by Barbara Vine, who is, of course, the alter ego of the highly successful crime novelist Ruth Rendell. The Vine novels are, I think, intended to be the darker, more psychological, less crime-genre side of Rendell's writing, giving her the opportunity to branch out in new directions? although to be honest, I'm not convinced they are really all that much different from the (non-Wexford) novels she writes under her own name.
The story is narrated by Kerstin Kvist, who as a young woman in the late 1960s comes from Sweden to the Essex countryside in order to work for the Cosway family; ostensibly, as a carer for John, the mentally-ill thirty-nine year old son of the family. Kerstin's main motivation is to be closer to her London-based boyfriend; however, she is also intrigued by...

Barbara Currie 7 Secrets Of Yoga
Advantages: Ten minute sections so you can go at your own pace
Disadvantages: None
...I decided to get a yoga video and it was pointed out to me, that the best video to get would be Barbara Currie as she is 58 years old and what she looks like speaks for itself. Getting excercise videos from the latest star who has brought one out, may be all well and good, but be realistic we are never going to look like them. This lady looks like she is in her 30's and all from yoga, so she must be doing something right.
The video was bought from Amazon.co.uk for £9.99 £3 off recommended price.
This video caters for beginners and advanced users, there are 3 people on the video, Barbara Currie and 2 other ladies, one demonstrates the beginners exercises and the other lady demonstrates the advanced, it is so easy to follow.
There are eight 10 minute sections to this video, so you can do each section at your leisure...

Santa Barbara in November
Advantages: Weather, scenery, shopping, eating, beaches.
Disadvantages: too far away from Britain to visit for a weekend
...I visited Santa Barbara form the UK with my girlfriend in November 1999. We were on a round trip of California and Santa Barbara broke up the drive from LA to San Francisco.
The moment we arrived we fell in love with the beautiful mountainous backdrops and the great beaches and ocean front.
The main centre of activity in Santa Barbara streches from the pier right the way up Main Street. The pier streces out into the Pacific quite a way and gives great views of the Santa Barbara area and coastline. Main Street streches for about a mile and a half through SB and is great for shopping and eating. The continental-style restaurants are great for sitting out in the sun and people watching whilst the shopping caters for all tastes with specialist stores sitting alongside big names like Macys and The Gap.
We hadn't pre-booked accomodation but...

Down the Mill...
Advantages: Great little pool bar!
Disadvantages: A little out of city centre
...had a place to stay ? with Will having a flat down Mill Road in Cambridge.
Obviously, I am not going to go into detail about all the nights spent in Cambridge, but, with so many of us being tight on money (I was on Job Seekers most of this year, the others at College) many nights were just simple drinking at his flat. Though, some were centred around a visit to the closest decent bar ? Mickey Flynns, which is a short drunken stumble away from Will?s flat.
Finding it is easy, in Cambridge, locate Parker?s Piece (the big grass area, near a car park, and behind Pizza Hut), continue onto Mill Road, by passing the Swimming Pool and Skate Park, and then just walk down, it isn?t too far, and is easy to notice on the left hand side.
Getting In
Well, now you have arrived at the place, you need to get in. Mickey Flynns is a members club...

Keith Richards Does Errol Flynn
Advantages: Great fun, great setting, Johnny Depp
Disadvantages: A little long
...Not since Errol Flynn came swinging from the yard-arm has there been another to fill his swash-bucking boots. Not until this years Disney epic, Pirates of the Caribbean. Based on the theme park ride of the same name, Captain Jack Sparrow launches onto the big screen in a blaze of yo-ho-hos and the occasional bottle of rum.
