...Now this one confuses me and Little Miss and I are divided as to his role in the movie. i think (although I could be wrong) that he is a cobbler who is in love with one of the princesses and then suddenly, he is a Prince. All very confusing for an adult, but who am I to question the barbie logic? With Barbie and the Twelve Dancing Princesses being such a hit in our house, it was imperative that we had the gentleman visit- after all, with twelve ladies, he is one lucky bloke! ~~What is he?~~ Basically, a Barbie boy in a Barbie world. He stands slightly taller than Barbie at a very respectable 13" whereas Barbie usually measures in at about 12". ...Barbie carriage Still on the Barbie and the twelve dancing princesses them, this was another huge box, and of course Little Miss loved it- size not quality seems to be her motto! ~~Setting it up~~ I often judge the success of a toy on the level of frustration I will have reached by the time it is set up and ready for play. This was surprisingly easy- already done for me, and although the instructions show me how to attach the bridle, there is no need. This one was one of the "must haves" when Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus was all the rage; the film came complete with 3D glasses, so it's remained quite a popular one in our house. Prince Aidan has reasserted himself now with the advent of Barbie and the Twelve dancing Princesses, because Little Miss has realised that she should try to give the princesses a prince each! ~~What is he?~~ Basically, another Barbie boy in a Barbie world. .... ~~Price and Availability~~ Retails at about the £17 mark, and available from toy shops. Now that the 12 Dancing Princesses frenzy has abated, it can be picked up for a lot cheaper than this. ~~Made by~~ Mattel... those well known Barbie makers ~~What I thought~~ Firstly, as with all Barbies, it was difficult to unpack- their hair always seems to tangle in all that wire! Then, unlike the normal Barbies, this one needed mum to insert the batteries before it could be played with. Little Miss found the doll fairly impressive for a short length of time, but after a while the novelty of the skirt lighting up and the very slow twirl did wear thin. Genevieve is now relegated to being a "normal" Barbie and is played with like the others. in fact, I do believe she is less important in our household because she can't even go in the bath (batteries... ...and then the doll attached by the leg to the clip. ~~What do they do?~~ They dance, obviously, because they are dancing princesses. However, they are not very stable, and I think what they do more than dance is pose. They can, once stabilised on their base, be moved into different poses and can stand and look ballerina like and elegant with their perfect legs, hair and clothes. There is a mechanism on the base which can be moved to make the stand turn, but unfortunately the dolls seem a bit heavy, especially because the base has to be lifted up, at which point the dolls tend to fall off, of get into some rather ungainly positions. ~~Who makes them? As with the other Barbie products, these are made by Mattel, and this time they have excelled themselves with 12 of the dolls to buy, along with the carriage and the castle, and possibly umpteen other... ...One of the Barbie and The Twelve Dancing princesses range; in fact, I think this one is the most important one...the one the other sisters look up to. Little Miss was especially looking forward to ownership of this one, as she was often advertised and did look rather lovely in her peachy pink tulle- what looked like layers of it, and she really did look as though she could dance. So, the long awaited dancer came into her posession. The doll itself is the same size as the other Barbies, and looks remarkably like them- long flowing blonde hair, perfect features and figure. Her dress is rather lovely, with a full flowing skirt and underskirt. She also comes complete with a little cat, Jetty, although what this does I don't know. ...Genevieve Barbie is another doll for the barbie collection. this doll was made after the DVD was made called barbie and the 12 dancing princesses. Bought from Toys'R'us for £16.99, it also came with a DVD learn how to dance like a ballerina. The doll was pretty much the same price in all the shops, but I didn't see any with the DVD other than Toys'R'us. I love the fact that you can buy a Barbie DVD and buy the doll, this just gives your child more imagination when playing with the doll. The doll came in a big box, which I found hard to open, in fact it took more than 10 minutes to get the doll out, once I got the doll out, all the little wire pieces were knotted, so made even more difficult to undo and the hair was sewn down, which once taken off, makes the hair look a mess, which is annoying when you have a very excited child wanting... I am not sure but I do have some worries about Barbie raising the expectations about life of the children who play with her. In 2002 Barbie was banned in Russia it was thought that Barbie encouraged sexual ideas in young children and foistered paranoia about having slim bodies. This information I acquired from the guardian I am not sure of the ban is still in place. On the whole I think Barbie is ok as long as you do not let your child play exclusively with her. Doll play is a good way for children to live out there own experiences and overcoming fears. Doll play is a good way to live out dreams, getting married to prince charming and driving away in a horse driven carriage. A basic Barbie like the ballerina costs about £12-£3 the princess... Includes a small pot of lip gloss and a crown and necklace that little girls can also wear and re-inact scenes from the dvd. can style hair by sticking in the jewels or clips but i found some of the jewels didnt really hold for too long.. my in-laws brought this for my 5 year old as a christmas present she played with this for a short while on boxing day and since has been put back in its box and she has not shown any more interest in it.. the hair is now a little bit tangly and most of the jewels...
