Advantages: Friendly staff, near bus stop, excellent food, comfy beds
Disadvantages: Long walk to some rooms, price of food if no included

...and from the stop at the hotel (just across the road) it costs only £3 return per person which is great considering ataxi into town cost us just over £10 on the first day and we never made that mistake again! Anywho on to the hotel. When we arrived we were extremely early and couldnt check in until our appointed time of 2pm, they did offer to mind our cases and things for us until then but we declined as we had a car anyways. They did however fill in our details and things so it was all ready to go when we returned. Upon our return our check in took seconds and the staff explained to us where everything was, ie, restaurant, breakfast area, gym, pool, etc. We were then given our key cards and off we went. Old Ship Hotel is Really Very OLD!

Advantages: Service at breakfast and breakfast itself
Disadvantages: shabby rooms, noisy doors, no sound-proofing

...up to bed at around midnight and made sure to not make noise as we knew other people would be asleep. No such consideration for what seemed like every other guest who went to bed later than us. I remember looking at the TV clock every time I was woken up and it seemed to be every 15 minutes from 1am to 5am - and then you had the noise from outside the hotel. There was a bottle bank or something like that across the road - people seem to recycle at the strangest times of the day and night in Brighton as we heard bottles being thrown into the recycling unit from the early hours of the morning. Oh and I mustn't forget to mention that really irritating doors that the rooms have. The Barcelo chain or this particular branch of the hotel has obviously never heard of easy-closing hinges for doors. Every single hotel door slammed shut so much so...

Advantages: Immaculate hotel, great entertainment team, lovely location and superb food.
Disadvantages: Remoteish location, lacking room facilities and the damn bingo!

Barceló Margaritas - The Truth!

...Barceló Margaritas My boyfriend & I stayed here under half board (so breakfast & dinner were included but not lunch) for a week. It was a major emotional rollercoaster, of ups, downs and mediocrity I must admit. The first day we arrived we threw our belongings down so as to explore, and placed a do not disturb sign on the door. When we returned we found that one of the staff had helped themselves to 40euros (20 from each of our wallets) this was infuriating since even with travel insurance the hotel and the Thomas Cook reps were extremely unhelpful & unremorseful. Barcelo where I rested my foot in Tunisia .

Advantages: Good hotel

...Earlier this year we went on Holiday to Hammamet Tunisia. Usually we camp or self cater. I had just come out of hospital and we needed a break so we looked on line and booked last minute the hotel Barceló. This hotel has recently changed hands used to be the Miramar. We flew into Monastir it took about 45 minutes by coach to get to our hotel. Tunis is about an hour or so the opposite direction. This hotel is on the sea front 5k from the town centre of Hammamet. Although we hired a car as we wished to see more of Tunis off the beaten track it would be a good hotel to stay in with out your own transport. There is a tourist train /bus that runs from Hammamet town by the Medina to Yasmine Hammamet . The train stops in front of the Baqrcelo. ...I have been to this hotel twice and will return this year as my family have fallen in love with it. The hotel is lovely, very clean and the rooms are very spacious, the junior suite are ideal for a family of 4, they are cleaned every day to a very high standard. We were on an all inclusive package and the food was fantastic. I think even the fussiest of eaters would not complain. The resturant is a buffet style and self service. Breakfast for instance has fruit , yoghurt, cereal, bread, cooked food, cold meats, eggs, buscuits and cakes. Advantages: Beautiful beaches, relatively undeveloped, quiet

...My family and I stayed at the Barcelo Solymar Hotel for two weeks in June 2005. The first thing I must say about this hotel is what a great location, the beach is right on its door step and must the one of the best beaches in the world, the white sand seems to go on forever and the sea is so clear and warm it is almost like your stepping into a giant bath tub. The hotel itself is very large with one of the biggest swimming pools I have ever seen! The hotel has a huge open lobby area, it is very pretty with a nice bar, lots of different seating areas, a few shops, a bank and the reception desk. My biggest complaint about this hotel would have to be no air conditioning in the lobby, it is unbearable to stay by the bar because of the heat most nights I found myself taking drinks to my room to enjoy the air-con.
