It is in a fantastic location very close to the Passeig de Gracia and a short walk to Las Ramblas and the Barri Gotic (about fifteen minutes walk). The metro and trains get you anywhere you want to go in Barcelona and its only a five minute walk to the nearest station. The metro and trains are reasonably priced. Metro is 1 euro per ride. Train from airport to bottom of Arago was 6.50 euros each way. Hotel Balmes - great hotel in a great spot of Barcelona!

Advantages: *Great location to Metro stations *Modern, clean and comfortable furnishings *Good staff

...For those looking for a peaceful, laid-back and friendly hotel in the heart of Barcelona, this is the one. We arrived in the heat of a Summer's day, and were only too relieved to find our hotel foyer (and room) were eager to cool us down with their air con! The hotel immediately seemed worth more than it's 3 stars, with its marble foyer and art sculptures welcoming us in, as well as 2 friendly members of staff. They spoke a fair amount of English and were very keen to have someone take our bags up to our room which was much-needed on a hot day like that! Our room wasn't huge, but still an ample size for just 2 people. There were 2 single beds, a lovely leather armchair, a wardrobe with shelving, a safe, a flatscreen TV with about 15 channels, bedside tables, good lighting, drawers, air conditioning with controls and an ensuite bathroom...

Taber Hotel - 3 Star perfection

...A booking through Air miles for my 21st birthday present from my sister consisted of 3 nights stay in the Taber hotel Barcelona. I was thrilled, Spain was a country I had always wanted to visit and my research through lonely planet and the internet showed the hotel to be very central and a lovely looking hotel. This was proven correct upon my arrival at the hotel, only a 3 star hotel however it offered everything I was expecting and to a high standard and for only £65 each (booked through Air miles is always a bit cheaper) for 3 nights I had nothing to complain about. Handy, Well Located 3 Star Hotel

Advantages: Well located 3 Star budget hotel. Fairly cheap by Dublin standards.
Disadvantages: Not a lot!

...The Mespil Hotel is located on the Royal Canal on Mespil Road in Ballsbridge, only about 15 minutes walk from St. Stephen's Green and Grafton Street (the two main shopping areas of the city) and about 20 minutes from O'Connell Street and the Temple Bar area. In a previous incarnation the Mespil was a large office block that housed the Irish Blood Transfusion Service. The transformation to a hotel took place in the early 1990's, and has been achieved successfully. (I was dubious when I first heard of the proposal!) There's nothing special about the Mespil, but at in or around Euro100 per night, and with some special deals on offer if you book over the Internet, it would be a good, comfortable, 3 star hotel budget hotel for anyone either on a business trip or a short weekend break to Dublin. Pension Miami Hotel, Barcelona, Spain.

Advantages: Close to centre, clean room, great staff, near great shops, cheap and clean!
Disadvantages: no view, alley way smells, people pee in alley way, noisy.

...pm had a couple of prostitutes (one lady who sat there everynight on the window-ledge of the little cafe). She was far too old to be doing what she was doing so we said 'Ola!' to her everyday! She was friendly, but not always 'together' some of the time! There are plenty of shops near the hotel that sell all you need (cheap litre bottles of vodka for 6 euro's!) The cafe (previously mentioned) is great for morning coffee and the staff are great! Overall we loved Barcelona so much that I want to go over there and live and work. You will love it. Watch out for bag pinchers (saw 1 near the hotel and nearly 1 on the Ramblas). If there is anything you want to know about the hotel or Barcelona feel free to ask!...

Advantages: Luxury hotel in a great setting for restaurants and shopping
Disadvantages: Not the friendliest staff, and pricey extras

...I had read some negative reviews of this hotel and travelled determined to love the place, and while I did have a great long weekend, the hotel was slightly disappointing. We booked a last minute suite at 225 Euros per night, and were rewarded by a spacious room with large sofa. Interestingly I searched through many of the cheap web sites offering rooms at the Claris, and it was going direct to the Hotel web site that got me the best deal (over 200 euros cheaper for a 3 night stay!) The complimentary bottle of wine was a nice touch too. But on the first night the noisy spa bath would not turn off and after 1 hour and two baffled housekeeping staff we left them to it. When we returned the spa bath was made inactive with no explanation or apology, just a piece of gaffer tape stuck over the switch. Seeing as the spa and sauna in...
