...I've been using the Barracuda 320GB Hard Drive for some months now, I bought it for the capacity, speed and new features aswell as many past experiences with seagate drives that have always been good, they may not come top in benchmark tests but there usually in the top five and are one of the most quiet. As with most drives, after formatting you lose some space, the 320GB ended up being about 298GB, but no complaints here 298 gigs is more space than I'll ever use. The "ES" models are the ones to buy if you want reliability there designed for 24/7 operation mainly used in businesses, the Barracuda ES monitors temperatures and shuffles I/O requests to allow the drive to cool if it gets too hot. Barracuda 7200.11 AVOID at all costs

Advantages: low noise
Disadvantages: no reliability what so ever, will definitely break unless you update firmware

...The Seagate 7200.11 is probably is worst hard disk there is. I have only had it for 9 months and it's broken. Barracuda Enterprise-Server

...The Barracuda ES line is the higher-end (aka server line) series from Seagate, one of the big player in the storage business. It's designed for 24/7 operation and comes with five years warranty. This one is the SATA-II type which allows a maximum 3Gbps transfer rate. Some old motherboards can't accept SATA-II type of harddisk, so Seagate puts a jumper to "downgrade" the Barracuda ES to SATA-I specification (1.5 Mbps transfer rate). It has 16MB cache for maximum speed and reliability. Most hard disks come with 4-8MB of cache size. This one is very fast, reliable and impressive. A thumbs up for the barracuda

...Despite my previous negative comments on Seagate products, I must tell you about how good the Barracuda range has turned out to be. I own this drive. With its 40GB storage it is not the biggest on the market. But it does not claim to be. I have found huge disks to be unreliable anyway. No point in have 80gb disk space if a couple of those sectors become corrupt or damaged is there? at 7200rpm it is one of the fastest. Most are turning the wheel at between 5400-7200rpm so it sits nicely at the quickest spinning disk end. Data transfer rate is what we are bothered about. We need quick burst of data when loading a game or other system loading operations. This blasts across the cables at 100 mbs giving its name ATA 100. Good hdd drive but check the multithread reading

...I've used a similar model for a long time and I have mixed opinions about 7200.10 hard drives. The good things of Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 Seagate hdd are the most stables drives in the market, I've used my drive for quite a time and never experienced a single problem. Large capacity, 500 Gb is more than enough (470 real) Good speed, especially at writing data, but also at reading excepting multiple file copy. Speed is about 70-80 Mb at large files The access time is about 13-14ms (about the same as other hdd) Temperature IS OK. Very stable and reliable The not so good things: Multitasking read performance. While on single thread the performance is high, 70 Mb, while increasing the threads, many aplications used the speed drops at about 5-10 Mb A little noisy especially when many aplications are used Conclusion.
