Barracuda 7200.11 AVOID at all costs

Disadvantages: no reliability what so ever, will definitely break unless you update firmware

...The Seagate 7200.11 is probably is worst hard disk there is. I have only had it for 9 months and it's broken. I will keep myself to be subjective when writing this review though - so there's no need to worry! = the BASICS The Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 was released in 2008. It was the 11th generation of the Barracuda line of hard drives. It comes in 160Gb, 320Gb, 500Gb (mine), 640Gb, 750Gb, 1TB and 1.5TB. It runs on 3 disk platters and can be subjected to forces of 350Gs when not operating. =my EXPERIENCE The hard drive was working well, compared to my previous (Western Digital 250Gb) which at times doesn't work and clicks occasionally, displaying error 51 in Event Viewer. 9 months down the line of first buying it one day the computer does not boot up at all. Barracudas fly.

Advantages: Quality make. Cost.
Disadvantages: Slight noise.

...enough. It makes no difference how large your hard drive is if you wont use it all. However the difference in cost between 20gb, 40gb, and 80gb is negligible, so I opted for this one. The 7200rpm refers to the speed of the disk. Normally you can buy either 5400 or 7200rpm. The slower one is allegedly quieter. It is the speed that the disk spins at. As far as this one goes, I do notice some noise from it when I am shutting down. Otherwise it's fairly quiet. Seagate have a very good reputation and I would endorse that. There are some cheaper makes out there, Maxtor Diamond are usually cheaper, but not by much, and I would prefer to spend the extra £5. Seagate barracuda SATA 320gb hard drive review

Advantages: Fast, Value for Money, Quiet, 5yr warranty
Disadvantages: none that i know

...to anyone who needs a bigger hard disk drive, as it was very easy to set up and was recoqnised by bios (windows setup) first time. It is exceptional value for money, at under 25p a gigabyte. I bought mine from ebuyer for just under £70 inc VAT, delivery and cable, its the same price on dabs as well. It has a 16mb cache which is pretty fast and spins at 7200rpm, which is nothing too special, but gets the job done quick. In summary it is a good drive from trusted seagate, and quiet, I never notice it, with 5yrs peace of mind warranty, a good support website and a good price....

The good things of Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 Seagate hdd are the most stables drives in the market, I've used my drive for quite a time and never experienced a single problem. Large capacity, 320 GB is more than enough (300 Gb real) Good speed, especially at writing data, but also at reading excepting multiple file copy. Speed is about 75-80 Mb at large files The access time is about 13-14ms (about the same as other hdd) Temperature IS OK. Very stable and reliable The not so good things: Multitasking read performance. ...I've been using the Barracuda 320GB Hard Drive for some months now, I bought it for the capacity, speed and new features aswell as many past experiences with seagate drives that have always been good, they may not come top in benchmark tests but there usually in the top five and are one of the most quiet. As with most drives, after formatting you lose some space, the 320GB ended up being about 298GB, but no complaints here 298 gigs is more space than I'll ever use. Very quiet, fast HDD, Perpendicular recording

Advantages: Fast, new Perpendicular Technology, very quiet, fair price
Disadvantages: Not keen on cloning software available from Seagate

...The 7200.10 hard disk drives from Seagate are the first to use new Perpendicular Technology for recording data. This makes them, in theory, faster than other hard disk drives. This is because the drive head has less far to move in order to record/retrieve the same amount of data. I have recently purchased the 320GB ATA100 version and I do notice slightly higher speeds compared to my previous Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 80GB drive. Official reviews claim that the seek noise is higher with the 7200.10 than 7200.9, and higher than the majority of other leading drives. However, I cannot personally hear it seek at all, even when the drive is very busy. I do have a well insulated case but I am still able to hear the internal fans and another older hard disk I have. The reviews I've seen give very favourable figures for the spinning noise...
