Some of my favourite special effects moments were: The Geek fleet sailing The landing on the Tojan beach The first assault on Troy The destruction of Troy The film was worth watching just for these, it wasn't shy on special effects. 5/5 Soundtrack The music was done by James Horner and he certainly did one hell of a job. The music was epic and really enhanced the film's scenes. Furthermore the sound effects were very realistic and made you believe it was actually happening. 5/5...

'Troy' An epic tale of Greece and Troy

Advantages: Epic storyline, Brad Pitt fans will enjoy!
Disadvantages: A little long winded in parts

...Review of ?Troy? 2 Disc Special Edition DVD The DVD I am reviewing the 2 disc special edition of the DVD. The movie was produced in 2004 by Warner Bros. Pictures. The movie received mediocre praise from the critics for the retelling of Homer's ?The Iliad?. The storyline is fairly loosely based on The Iliad, and Hollywood has used it's artist license to add to the tale. The Special Edition consists of the 2 discs, one being the actual movie and the other a very interesting mixture of special effect techniques used in the production, an analysis of the battle scenes, a 3D animated guide to Greek myths and a look at the design of the sets used and the comparisons between Greek temples and ruins of the time. ...Troy: Lord of the Silver Bow is the first in a trilogy of books telling the story of the Trojan war, and subsequent fall of the city, however through the eyes of new and non-standard characters. This being the first novel in the series starts the action a long time before the fall of Troy and uses this book to set the scene both in terms of characters and political positions. The lead character is Heliakon - a pirate raider who gave up his crown to avoid a civil was with his own brother. Advantages: An enjoyed few hours
Disadvantages: None

...the audience the severity of the situation, which is that Patroclus is Achilles lover according to the Greek tale. Also omitted was the real reason Achilles wanted revenge on Hector, and why Achilles acted the way he did after the battle scene with Hector. If the audience were clued up on this, it would have made sense. Now, having pointed out the missing plot details, what did the film have to offer the cinema going audience? Well, much of the original story actually does remain intact. We do see the young prince Paris, played by Orlando Bloom, steal Helen away from her husband, King Menelaus, and the Greeks do send 1000 ships to attack the fabulous city of Troy. Also Achilles, does indeed argue with Agamemnon over a woman, and refuse to fight again, that is, until someone close to his heart dies, then he flexes those muscles once more...

Lording it over other books on Troy

Advantages: Good characters, an interesting take on Troy and its heroes
Disadvantages: The romance element

...and would rather breed horses than fight; however his name is legendary in battle. There are several small sidelines such as Helikaon?s search for his father?s assassin and the mystery surrounding who ordered his death. The character of Gershom is also a sideline in the reasons for his escaping Egypt and why the Royal guards are searching for him. Another few episodes involve a young boy named Xander and his adventures on Helikaon?s ship. Another important character is Argurios, a legendary Mykene warrior sent on a mission by Agamemnon to Troy. He ends up travelling with Helikaon despite their mutual dislike of each other and at first comes across as an unlikeable character. When Gemmell switches to Argurios? point of view his rigid character is soon explained. He lives by a very clear moral code and has not endeared himself to his king...

...The story of Troy is a well known one and I think this is one of the better versions out there although by no means the best. The film opens with a few scenes of different characters in the movie as the narrator, who we later learn is Menelaus, tells that what is to follow are the true events surrounding the great Trojan war and the downfall of the mighty city of Troy. We then see a young Cassandra running to her parents King Priam played by John Rhys-Davies and Queen Hecuba played by Maryam D'Abo. The Queen has just given birth to a baby son who has been named Alexandros. However Cassandra warns them that this child will bring about the destruction of Troy unless they kill him. Both parents believe wholeheartedly in Cassandra's predictions and so arrange for Alexandros to be left atop a hillside to die. However a passerby finds...

The Fall Of Troy

Advantages: Pretty much ever song blows you away, Fall Of Troy at their most raw!

...The Fall Of Troys first album is one which gets better with age. The more you listen to the incredible guitar rifts the more you start to actually hear what the hell he's playing. Once you reach this point, you start loving this band. I'd normally plan my reveiws with the best song, the worst song, and then overall did i like it. However with this album i need about 3 best songs. Rockstar Nailbomb is only 2:03 but it is deffinately one of my favorite, especially when the base comes in about 15 seconds into the song. I Just got this symphony going is has to be the best intro to a song on this, or on any of Fall Of Troys later albums. In my personal opinion i think it starts to go a little mainstream as the song pans out, but the first 30 seconds are just mindboggoling! The Last March of the Ents is one of my favorite guitar rifts...

The story of Troy - not the Iliad

Advantages: An epic film telling an epic story, Plenty of eye candy with Pitt, Bloom and Bana
Disadvantages: It is long - drawn out in parts

...battles take place between the two forces. The Greeks led by Agamemmon and the Trojans by Hector, eldest son of Priam. Agamemmon quarrels with Achilles, his star warrior, who withdraws from the fighting. NOw I WON'Tgo any further since if you haven't seen the film yet, more would spoil the enjoyment. In contrast to the story of Troy, the Iliad, tells only about the central section. It does not tell about how Paris' love affair that leads to the war. Neither does it tell about the ending to the war with the Trojan War. The two stories cannot be compared. The story of Troy is undoubtably a classic story admittedly immortalised by The Iliad. The epic deserves to be portrayed in a grandiose fashion and the director Wolfgang Peterson certainly achieves this. Another critism, I have heard is that there is too much fighting and battle...
