...As I do like cooking for friends and family on special events I like to go that extra mile with 3 course meals. Here are some of the starters I've done more recently that my guests and I very much enjoyed.
Prawn Parcels
Ingredients
(Serves Four)
10z Canned water chestnuts
4 Spring Onions
8oz Peeled cooked prawns
2 tsp Hoisin sauce
1 tsp Caster Sugar
2 tsp Dry Sherry
2 tsp Cornflour
1 Egg white
8 Chinese rice paper wrappers (wonton wrappers if unable to get rice paper)
Vegetable oil for deep-frying
Plum or Hoisin sauce to serve
1 - Beat your egg white, mix in the cornflour, dry sherry, hoisin sauce and the sugar. Also adding the spring onions, drain the water chestnuts and chop adding them to the mixture add your prawns and mix well.
2 - You will need to soften the rice paper by dipping them in a bowl of water this is best done one...

...This is where it all started. The starterset was my son's first exposure to Thomas the Tank Engine - First things first - there are at least 5 different styles of Thomas toys - none which interact with each other so sticking to 1 type would be recommended.
This is a My First Thomas range which are ideal for children aged 1 and above.The toys are brightly coloured and accurate copies of your favourite Thomas characters. There are plenty to collect! The trains all have non marking rubber wheels, are hard wearing, dishwasher safe and most importantly are battery free.
A great and affordable gift for a 1 plus year old boy - My son, now 2 cannot get enough of his collection - he has 35+!!!!
You can also purchase a track which the trains will interact with.
So to conclude - an ideal purchase for any young boy...
Advantages: Amazing value for money, great DVD and impressive looking Transformers figures !!! Disadvantages: Hard to find at a reasonable price ... it's become a collectors item (which pushes up the price)

'The Battle Begins' is a DVD that introduces the new Transformers Animated series ... a sort of 'Pilot Episode' that sets the scene for the ultimate battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons and the quest for the elusive All Spark !!! It is a great DVD for Transformers fans of all ages and an ideal episode to introduce younger fans to the animated series.

**How to use the set...**
The basic principal is very simple. Advantages: Perfect for your budding little designers. Disadvantages: A little on the dear side for what you get.

The general idea behind this particular toy is the child becomes the fashion designer.
Within the set you get two 4? plastic dress mannequins, complete with a 2? long hole running down the back of the dummy.
Also included is a spatula (the purpose of which will be revealed very soon), 6 rectangular pieces of material, all brightly coloured and completely different in design, 6 belts (the perfect size for the mannequins), sheets of stickers (2d and 3d) and a small length of gold tie material (which looks like a miniature version of the beads you get for you Christmas trees...

Advantages: easy viewing Disadvantages: doesn't go anywhere
...I was really looking forward to watching Starter for 10 after having read some positive reviews about in on both Dooyoo and Ciao! and also because it's British. I sat down to watch it last night with my husband, and although it was a reasonably enjoyable film, it sort of left me feeling well 'what was the point of that?'
At the centre of the film is Brian Jackson (played by James McAvoy). He's an ordinary sort of lad from an ordinary seaside town in Essex who makes it good and gains a place at Bristol University. At the beginning of the film we learn that he has a huge fascination with general knowledge and loves the programme University Challenge with a passion. When he gets to Bristol he mnages to get on the team to take part in the quiz. He also falls for one of his extremely attractive team mates, whilst befriending a few other...

Rice-Stuffed Tomatoes !
Ingredients:
6 large, ripe tomatoes
115 g ( 2/3 cup) risotto rice or long-grain white rice
350 ml ( 1 1/2 cups) Boiling chicken stock
4 tablespoons olive oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, crushed
225 g (8 oz) fresh spinach, finely chopped
3 tablespoons chopped fresh Italian parsley
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Mixed salad leaves to serve
Method:
Cut tops of tomatoes and reserve. using a teaspoon, cut out tomato seeds and flesh; researve flesh for uses in sauces and casseroles. Place tomatoes upside down to drain.
Preheat oven to 180C (350F/Gas 4). rinse rice...

...I bought this for £15 in Mothercare before my daughter was born. I hoped (and succeeded) in breast feeding but did want the option of getting her used to bottles as I was planning to back to work.
I think this set represented excellent value for money. You get two large (9oz) bottles and two smaller ones (4oz), 4 newborn teats, a really good bottle brush designed to clean Avent teats and a soother. Pretty good -nothing in there I didn't need (except perhaps you might think you don't want to buy a soother, but having one thrown in was actually a really good idea, is it gave me the chance to see if one helped without needing to go and buy a big pack). I did in fact use it for a few weeks when she was very tiny, then she learned to suck her thumb and I never used it again after 3 months.
I knew from my other babies that I loved Avent...
...Starter for ten was a DVD that my Wife bought and it had been sat on our shelf whilst we waited for our new DVD player to arrive, as we couldn't get any of our DVD's to play at all on our old one. I have to admit I wasn't that bothered if I saw it or not and was actually slightly grateful that I was managing to hold off on this one for a while!
However, as soon as the new DVD player arrived my Wife insisted that we watch this as she has been wanting to for quite some time - since it was on in the cinema in fact but she hadn't managed to go and see it. She was so desperate to see it because she has the book and really wanted to see the film! So one evening we sat down to watch it with me not expecting much but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and overall glad that I had actually ended up watching this film!!

Review of Starter For Ten (DVD)
Advantages: Everthing Disadvantages: Smelly strong blue cheese
...I am a blue cheese freak, the stinkier the better
so what a wonderful way than to use good old fashioned smelly cheese in two quick and very
simple starters.
~~~~~~~~~~~~ Stuffed Mushrooms ~~~~~~~~~~~
You will need:
Large mushrooms
Smelly blue cheese any varitey
Butter
Roasting dish
To start with clean your mushrooms and
carfeully take out the stems, and load the
mushrooms with your chosen cheese. Take a
generous knob of butter and melt it in the dish
in a hot oven (160C), place your mushrooms in the dish and cook until all the cheese has melted.
Take them out and poor the remaining juice over the top and serve with a nice watercress salad and large chunks of french bread.
This one can be used either with the Avocado or as a dip.
