Disadvantages: It makes you sad we aren't this good anymore!

Review of Everton - Everton vs Bayern Munich (DVD)

The Munich massacre - its aftermath, as noted by Spielberg

Advantages: Incredibly powerful drama in places
Disadvantages: Takes too long to get anywhere

...Munich is a poignant and dramatic, slow-moving Spielberg film that has at its core the effects and fallout from the 1972 Munich Olympic Games massacre. Members of the Israeli Olympic team were taken hostage and eventually killed by a group known as Black September, reported to have ties to a militant group linked to the Fatah organisation. The film opens with some graphic scenes showing the massacre within the first five or ten minutes, before Spielberg introduces us to the squad of assassins who then plan to hunt down 11 Black September members and kill them as revenge. It is a very suspenseful and dramatic film, with patience needed throughout. Do not expect a fast paced tense thriller, because that's not what this is about. It's a serious drama, with the suspense the main focal point, and the emotions that the squad must go...

Munich - A Beautiful Bavarian

Advantages: Beautiful City, Great Food, Wonderful Museums, Close to Alps
Disadvantages: Too Many Tourists In The Summer

...'In Munich Stands a Hofbräuhaus'?or so, roughly translated, runs one well-known staple of Munich's beerhall sing-alongs. For many who've never visited this charming city (and perhaps, even for a few who have?) this, along with the even better-known Oktoberfest, an event which, to all intents and purposes, is little more than the Hofbräuhaus writ large, condensed into a month & transferred on to a circus ground, is pretty much all that Munich amounts to. Well, it isn't. MY MUNICH: I lived in Munich for about four years, in the late-seventies and early eighties. My earliest memories of the Hofbräuhaus involve sitting outside it in a parked Mercedes with my two brothers, when I was about six. Our father would drop in to have a beer, or two, with his German work colleagues, leaving us to wait squabbling in the back seat for an hour or so...

Probably the best and also worst hostel in Munich

Advantages: No kerfew, breakfasts, cheap bar, friendly staff
Disadvantages: Its not very clean

...a general idea. When you get to the front of the que a feast greats you, aswell as the general cereal and toast options there are also a variety of cold meats, cheeses, and breads, aswell as eggs, and pate. Accompanying this is good coffee or tea and two types of juice. After a night of German excess this is the perfect antidote. The resturant doubles as a bar in the evening with a small beer garden. The bar staff are friendly and obviously speak very good English, and they offer their own draught beer aswell as Dunkels from a bottle. It is alot cheaper than you will find anywhere else in Munich, especially if you can hold on to the rather flimsy wristband that is handed to you when you check in. This will allow you happy hour drinking and means you can get a full stein for about 4.50 euros, compared to the average of 7 euros in the rest...

Munich - What Happened Next.....

...Early in the morning of the 5th September 1972, Palestinian terrorists broke into the athlete's village at the Munich Olympics. The terrorist group known as Black September stormed the Israeli apartments, took 9 hostages, and shot two men dead. Whilst the games went on around them, the terrorists demanded the release of hundreds of prisoners from Israeli jails as well as the release of two Germans being held in Germany. Israel refused to bend to the demands and later that night the remaining hostages were all killed in a bungled rescue bid held at Munich airport. Munich Walk Tour

Advantages: one of the must-see cities in Germany
Disadvantages: none really

...Last summer I was in Munich to see an art exhibition. I didn´t have any plans for the afternoon and when I saw a leaflet ´Munich Walk Tours in English´, (from May 17th to August 31st daily 10:45 am and 3:00 pm, from Sept. 1st to Oct. 31st daily 10:45, meeting point in front of the town hall entrance under the Glockenspiel on Marienplatz, 9 Euro, under 26 years 8 Euro, children under 14 with an adult free), I thought, why not? Why not find out what foreigners tell foreigners about Munich? Still on the Marienplatz the guide, a young woman from Australia started with a survey over the history of Munich from the year it was officially founded up to today and covered 800 years in about 10 minutes. Our tour wasn´t specified as a historical tour, it was just a general introduction, but we heard more about the reign of the Royal Family...

Bayern Muenchen, Oktoberfest and Lederhosen

Advantages: sights, nightlife ...
Disadvantages: if its raining, it can be boring!

...it is?!) 4th day: I go to a pharmacy and buy an aspirin for my headache! 5th day: Its saturday and I go to a football game from the FC Bayern München to the Olympiastadion! (Bayern München and 1860 München are going to build the most modern stadion in the world soon!). Bayern wins! 6th day: I walk through the city again and look at the Frauenkirche (women's chirch) and all the sights from Munich. 7th day: Its my last day in Munich so I buy a lederhose (leathershorts) as a souvenir. Tonight I go to one of the "thousand" clubs in Munich. I hope with this little "trip"through munich I could give you an good impression of this great city. And I hope my english is good enough for you....

Munich Airport MUC

Advantages: Excellent gateway to the Bavaria
Disadvantages: Huge, impersonal Airport, which is still under construction

...I arrived on the Dutch National carrier KLM and was quite impressed with our arrival off 24L via the inner taxiway and directly onto the airbridge..quite impressive, from touchdown to unloading was about 4 mins..... The Airport was quite large, and is in the centre of a Parallell Runway system, very long terminal buildings lead to a maze of corridoors and escalators, however, my arrival was well handled and within 12 mins of landing we were through passport control with baggage and being greeted by our friends from Bavaria <br> on our return we got the Train to Munich Marionplatz and watched the Glochenspeil, had lunch at the Lowenbrauhaus and caught the S Bahn to the Airport... KLM Check in was a bit hampered, on presentation of my KLM frequent flyer card the system went haywire and closed down, this took some 15 mins to...

...I love my Munich much and decided to begin a report row over Munich in which I describe the individual high points of this beautiful city. That would blow up the framework in only one report absolutely. And in such a way it concerns today the resident of Munich Viktualienmarkt: On 2 May 1807 King Max I. that Marienplatz had become too small as market for grain and other agricultural products. He instructed therefore that a part of the market between "Heiliggeistkirche" and "Frauenstraße" was to be shifted. The "Benefizhäuser of Heiliggeist", standing there, which had acquired the city, was torn off, so that a large place could develop. Thus the vegetable market got its own place, which was called first only market place. Only the word "Viktualien" was very many later used. Viktualien (victualia) - by the way like F spoken - is latin...
