BBC2-with variety

Advantages: Variety of programmes
Disadvantages: Easily filled in with old stuff

...Looking at BBC2 at the moment (literally) there is a film on. I think this seems to reflect the general image that BBC2 has given the public of itself. Well, if you look more closely at BBC2, at the right time of day, the image transforms. From 5:15 onwards is where it kicks in. The Weakest Link now has a notorious reputation thanks to Anne Robinson and her "you are the weakest link. Goodbye." - very blunt, and quite comical! The simpsons follow on some days, a classic cartoon comedy. Later in the evenings there is variety. Whether it be gardening programmes with Charlie 'no bra' Dimmock, or Louis Thereux (spelt?!) on a weird weekend with a range of people, from Jimmy Saville to porn stars and swingers! The Friday evening comedy entertainment is solid with Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Red Dwarf (old but a favourite). Other programmes...

BBC2 see the future of Ann

Advantages: Ann Robinson, great links between programmes
Disadvantages: Well its BBC2, Open University programmes at 2 in the morning

...The whole country is currently going crazy over a woman who 12 months ago you wouldn’t have looked twice at. She’s not a sexy symbol (by any means!), not a film star (yet), but may someday hopefully have grand illusions of power (i.e. running the country!). She is of course Ann Robinson. I know that the Welsh people reading this review will currently be wiping spit from their computer screens, but I promise you that she didn’t mean it, so please forgive her, for the sake of the country! Not only does she host one of the countries most popular TV shows The Weakest Link, but BBC 2 have adopted her, (all be it in computer form) to become their new between programme fill in’s. BBC 2

Advantages: Education and entertainment
Disadvantages: Excessive sports coverage

...Well since BBC 1 mostly covers news, BBC 2 is more of a educational and entertainment channel. In early mornings there are Bitesize programs to help with peoples study, and at evenings there are plenty of entertaining programs. From 6pm, Simpsons, Star Trek, Buffy, all of them. Before that, there are cooking shows and also DIY and gardening programs. All a very nice range of programs. Since it's BBC, then there are no adverts, which is good, so no interuptions to your programs, except in news bulletins which rarely occur. There is however, a liking by BBC directors to put the same sport on both channels, and have Grandstand run from morning to evening! So it does get a bit boring when you don't want to watch any of these. In the end, not a bad channel from BBC on free air channels....

BBC 2 - alternative but sporadically good

Advantages: Alternative, not so bothered about content
Disadvantages: Inconsistent

...BBC2 is the kind of channel which you might be able to go weeks without watching, but then you can find a week of programmes that really captivate your interest and the imagination. Currently they have one of the best quiz shows on TV showing at 5:15 every day in the Weakest Link with the hilariously stern Anne Robinson as the presenter with a chance to win up to 10 grand relatively easily. Also no-one would doubt they have some excellent documentaries, like the recently shown Jackpot which followed various gamblers at various events or stages in their lives and offered some great insight and advice....

BBC1 has a little brother and he is much funnier

Advantages: Grown up and childish , clever and down-to-earth, funny and serious
Disadvantages: It spawned The Weakest Link

...I don't have cable, satellite, virtual reality or home cinema, but I do have my Goodmans TV and the five terrestrial channels, and of the five on offer , BBC2 shines most brightly. First, TV is essentially a massive waste of time. It is an almost entirely passive experiance and more people spend more time watching it than any other activity. So, bearing this in mind, I don't watch a great deal of TV (just the average 10 to 15 hours a day) and like to view selectively. I want a channel that stimulates me intellectually, challenges me morally, stirs me emotionally and doesn't wear me out physically. Now BBC2 has everything. It has the BIG advantage of no-adverts, but scores over BBC1 by leaning less towards the mass appeal of the more banal programming. H2G2, just as good with the BBC

Advantages: A superb web community
Disadvantages: You don’t get paid for writing

...The BBC website is one of the greatest, and H2G2 became a part of it in February 2001, so this is an opinion of H2G2, a website in a website, sorry, I know its annoying when an opinion you read isn’t actually about what you wanted, but H2G2 is probably the greatest community website of all (in my humble opinion, of course). Radio 2 -- Easy Listening With Style!

Advantages: Diverse shows that appeal across the spectrum
Disadvantages: The mix can be a little strange at times.

...I always find it surprising as to the diversity of Radio 2, the schedule on any given night could contain a short half hour program about Folk music and another night a program about Theatre organs can be heard, I have listened to both and realised there is more to life than listening to such stations as Happy FM (or Capital) that tend to play the same record over and over again every two hours. Besdes these stations appear to be aimed at someone about 15 years younger than myself anyway. Radio 2 on the other hand caters for people of my age and boy they certainly deliver, I always tend to be in the car coming home or going somewhere when Elaine Paige is broadcasting. Sometimes the journey can be from hell at worst and other times just damn right boring. So to experience the diversity that Radio 2 offer on a Sunday is a bonus...

Another great comedy on BBC2

Advantages: Original, subtle, excellent acting
Disadvantages: Perhaps too subtle for some who may prefer the more 'funny-ha-ha' comedies

...Who said British comedy is dying? This new BBC2 series of short 10 minute programmes harnesses the talent of Steve 'Alan' Coogan and Henry '?' Normal as producers along with an excellent lead man. Leading who is not clear as he is in fact the only actor to appear throughout. The whole thing is set inside the car of this one bloke who's just got divorced from his wife, Marion. The filming is all done from one camera inside the main character's car - you never actually leave his car, even when he does himself. The basic idea is that he sits in his car driving around, going about his daily business just talking to the camera. He doesn't conciously make any 'gags' in the usual sense of the word, but in continually talking to the camera he gradually reveals his character and his take on the world. Sound funny? The Simpsons - Better on Sky 1 than BBC2

Advantages: Better overall broadcasting of The Simpsons, More episodes.
Disadvantages: Adverts

...In my opinion, if you are lucky enough to have cable/sky/digital or whatever, Sky 1 broadcasts better episodes of the Simpsons than BBC2. Why do I think this? Because they show the most recent series. I personally think the Simpsons is great, but compared to the older episodes, the currents ones are a thousand times better - the animation is smoother, the voices are better, the characters are more defined, and the stories are much funnier. On BBC2, however, they do not show adverts in the middle of each episode, but if you can live with them, you'll find the more recent episodes on Sky 1 more entertaining. Plus, on Sky 1, each week night they show 2 episodes of the Simpsons, as they also do on Sunday....
