PAIN RELIEF FOR CHILDREN

Advantages: Does not contain paracetamol
Disadvantages: can cause side effects

...I am not a huge user of paracetamol based medicines and was using Calpol for a while for my son and when I realised that here was now a Nurofen for children on the market in syrup form too I began to use that. I have been taking Nurofen for as long as I can remember, it contains brufen but doesn't contain any paracetamol at all so as an adult you can take this along with paracetamol but this is not recommended for children. Also this should not be used if your child suffers from asthma or has stomach pains (same goes for adults). It comes in a brown plastic bottle with a child proof lid on it (that goes without saying really) with the word Nurofen clearly marked on it in red letters on a grey background. It comes with a measureing guide which looks like a syringe, my son screamed when he first saw it until I had to reassure him...

The Children of Men

Advantages: A chilling story, menacing atmosphere
Disadvantages: Can be a bit slow at times

...P.D. James is a successful British crime fiction writer but having never read her work before, I picked this book up out of interest after vaguely hearing about the film based on it. "The Children of Men" is not a crime fiction novel but is instead a dystopian novel set in a future England where no-one has been able to have a child for twenty-five years. The novel is all about the consequences of this mass childlessness on society. I have to say I quite enjoyed it and thought it had a nicely menacing air. It was quite indebted to Orwell's "1984" in some ways but was by no means a replica. The main character is Theo, who isn't always a sympathetic protagonist as he can be quite irritating and also cold. He is the cousin of the Warden of England who is basically a dictator. Basically it is a oral suspension designed for babies and children from the age of 3 months old. It is colour free, sugar free and flavoured orange. The sachets come in 5ml and contain 100mg of ibuprofen. What is it used for? The main use of nurofen for children is to help ease pain associated with toothache, muscular pains, minor aches, headache and to help ease cold and flu symptoms and to help reduce fever. How to use? The sachet form is very easy to use and is good for when you are out and about. ...The BBC?s weather site?now there?s an interesting thing to review?? Surely it?s just a page with an up-to-date weather map on it?and perhaps an outlook for the next few days? Well, yes you?d be right. But it does have more to it than that? The light blue homepage does show a satellite image of the British Isles, with various cities pinpointed on the map to help with those who don?t know where London is?oh dear?but obviously they?re just for reference points. As I type, there seems to be an awful lot of rain heading our way. Those in Ireland are currently getting soaked! There is a slider along the bottom of the map which you can manually move to see what will happen to the weather over the course of the next few days. It could be a wet one looking at this! You can change the map to a temperature map, but at this time of year...

The BBC

Advantages: a great channel with loads of programmes

...Probably the best channel on TV, BBC1 provides us with hours of entertainment and enjoyable programmes each day. Unlike, ITV, channel 4 and channel 5, the BBC aren't cramming as many adverts in as they can, ITV usually have commercial breaks every ten minutes. Aswell as wonderful series and great childrens programmes, the BBC also bring us movie Premieres and some exellent soaps. The best films are mainly brought to us on bank holidays or christmas ect. These include blockbusters such as Titanic and Godzilla, also old favourites such as Free Willy and Beethoven. Also adding some for the little ones. The childrens programmes, not the best, but still educating and interesting for young children. CBBC has brought us exellent series, for example Grange Hill, an all time favourite, and Blue Peter. Also for the younger ones...

Great edutainment for Children

Advantages: commercial advertisment free, qulaity educational programming
Disadvantages: series repeats drives parents nuts

...the afternoon. This is not true of all shows, however, so it is handy to have a recording device to make sure your child does not miss his favourite show. Having Sky+ has been a sanity saviour for me with this, as I can record a couple programmes my son likes, and not have the unfortunately not new material (yet another series repeat) go on in my ear. Yes, this is the downside. Children's shows do not get as much funding, so that Bob the Builder you are watching will come on again in 3 days?..twice. And again a couple days after that. Ad nauseaum. ARGH! For me, but it does not seem to faze a three year old at all, and that is who this is aimed at, so he is a very happy customer! I have to say that the shows are engaging to children, the presenters likable and lively, and I appreciate knowing that my 3 year old will not be urged to take out a loan...
