BBC Radio 1 Review

Advantages: Great Djs, Good music, Funny
Disadvantages: Run by BBC

...Hi today i will be reviewing BBC Radio 1. I usually listen to Radio 1 at night as its something to do while trying to get to sleep (not a bad thing!). I personally enjoy the Chris Moyles Show and Scott Mills mainly because I find Chris funny and Scott has some great features from the old angry pizza man wind up to the new Whats Becky's Forté which features Becky the Assistant Producer trying to find that talent she excels at. The Chris Moyles show is different than most other shows on Radio 1 in that its not just the presenter that gets involved the whole team have a great time and in turn help you to get ready for whatever your going to. During the day there is Jo Whiley, Sarah Cox and Edith Bowman. I personally don't listen to these just because I'm usually busy. For the few times I have listened to them they do film...

A reason to go digital - BBC Radio 7

Advantages: Excellent mix, fills a clear gap
Disadvantages: Only on digital

...I was going to wait a bit before posting this, but I've been itching to spread the word! Well, from the category and the title you'll have worked out that BBC7 is one of the BBC's national radio stations. However, I'm guessing that the majority of you haven't heard it yet. BBC7 launched quietly in mid December 2002 on all the BBC's digital platforms. You can receive it via DAB Digital Radio, Sky, the BBC website or - as I do - from a Freeview digital TV box. Review of BBC Radio 7

Radio 2 -- Easy Listening With Style!

Advantages: Diverse shows that appeal across the spectrum
Disadvantages: The mix can be a little strange at times.

...I always find it surprising as to the diversity of Radio 2, the schedule on any given night could contain a short half hour program about Folk music and another night a program about Theatre organs can be heard, I have listened to both and realised there is more to life than listening to such stations as Happy FM (or Capital) that tend to play the same record over and over again every two hours. Besdes these stations appear to be aimed at someone about 15 years younger than myself anyway. Radio 2 on the other hand caters for people of my age and boy they certainly deliver, I always tend to be in the car coming home or going somewhere when Elaine Paige is broadcasting. Sometimes the journey can be from hell at worst and other times just damn right boring. So to experience the diversity that Radio 2 offer on a Sunday is a bonus...

Why I listen to BBC RADIO 4

Advantages: INFORMATIVE CONVERSATION
Disadvantages: OCCASSIONAL MUNDANE SERIALS

...I often listen to BBC radio four. I really hate housework so to relieve the boredom I put the radio on. I prefer informative conversation to listening to music interrupted by adverts or mundane chat. Therefore radio four is my choice because intelligent dialogue, drama and comedy can stimulate me while I do my daily chores. I would recommend radio four to anyone who wants to enjoy quality chat and news. Being the BBC you also don't have to suffer constant advertisement breaks. It's refreshing to have radio without boring small talk and ad breaks....

BBC Radio 1 - Daytime Shows

Advantages: Excellant Daytime Schedule
Disadvantages: Night Time Schedule

...It all started in 1967 a DJ called Tony Blackburn came on the air and said "and Good Morning everyone welcome to the exciting new sound of Radio 1". Noel Edmonds he was next, And taking us into the 80's was a man who spent the night before his very first show thinking of something prolific, Along came Simon Mayo he was gifted and single after 5 years on the air people only remember his jingle. Now though in the present days we get a very varied show listing. We start off on weekday mornings with the genuius and intellect which is of Chris Moyles and his team, With regular features such as Buzz Off, Tedious Link and Carpark Catchphrase. He now also has 7 Million Listeners, Has made Peter Andre Number 1, Been to Portugal during Euro 2004, And according to his jingles the only thing left to do is win the nobel peace prize. Next...

Advantages: Music policy, presenters, quality.
Disadvantages: Not freely available to all - Dig TV/DAB/Internet needed

...Radio 6 is a recent addition to the BBC?s fine network of radio stations. This station may come as a surprise to you, or you may have seen trailers for it on BBC TV. The station is not available on your traditional FM or AM tuners, as it is an entirely digital entity ? and FM is not digital. Also, the FM bands are pretty full nowadays in some parts of the country. Full of useless commercial better music mix tat really. Radio 6 is one of many new stations that have been developed for the relatively new DAB platform. Radio 5. Live?

Advantages: Can be good
Disadvantages: Can be bloomin' awful!

...! We all know that Radio 5 Live is based in London. We listeners out in the bush are constantly reminded of this fact by the presenters. Some of the programmes are so London this, London that and London the other that it wear rather thin. There are times when the national programme (yes, that's national, as in "for the nation") Radio 5 Live sounds more like Radio 5 Live (a division of BBC Radio London). The coverage of live and breaking news is where Radio 5 Live really scores. Whilst it is true that sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between raw news and raw sewage, Radio 5 Live does and excellent job of the Herculean task of attempting to sort the wheat from the chaff "on the fly" which is no easy job. Incidentally? Radio 5 Live. Why live? This seems to be the sort of "affectation" in can really put people off things...

Radio Two Is First

Advantages: Good all round
Disadvantages: None

...As a middle of the road radio programme there is nothing to beat Radio 2 right from the early morning greetings from Sarah Kennedy as she helps to get us out of bed, through Terry Wogan's two hour stint, to Ken Bruce's spell until midday. For me the next two hours are the best as Jimmy Young's prog will contain live interviews of politicians, celebrities etc. who are currently in the news. And yes the awkward questions are asked and the answers are ferreted out. From time to time Jimmy has "specials" where a pets expert comes in to answer listeners' questions about pets, or an antiques day or a drugs day etc. On most days there is a regular topic like on Mondays there is medical, Thursdays food and the like and Fridays the most informative of all is the legal day where a regular legal chappie answers...

Radio Ga-Ga

Advantages: More varied playlist than commercial stations
Disadvantages: Sara Cox, too much banter

...Radio 1 is one of those things that you can never avoid, like a cold at Christmas or Carol Vorderman. Millions upon millions of people rely on Radio 1 to play them their favourite songs, and to broaden their horizons as to which new music they should be listening to. I remember back in the days of Steve Wright and Nicky Campbell (although, alas, not Noel Edmonds and Tony Blackburn…). They playlist was mainly chart, and you would occasionally hear the likes of Simply Red and T'Pau, and other wine-bar specialities. However, the playlist nowadays is skewed more towards both indie and dance music, and your more likely to hear Blue than Deacon Blue. Although this policy leaves Starsailor sitting uncomfortably with Oxide and Neutrino, at least it means that it is a Hucknall free zone… However, the current set of Radio 1...
