BBC World Service is a Good Teacher
Advantages: Various program
Disadvantages: None
...of the verbs, for examples: go-went-gone-going, etc. as irregular verbs, visit-visited-visited-visiting, etc. as regular verbs. Then I had to learn the concepts of tenses, such as simple present tense, simple past tense, simple future tense, etc. The most exiting problem to me, certainly was about the vocabulary. All English words were strange to me ! Did I become a stanger ?
The outstanding new 'odd' concepts were nothing to me, because I did not understand anything. I hated the English lesson very much. It was a 'ghost' to me. I thought my language was more simple than English. (P.S. actually most of my friends got the same point of view as I had).
Then what brings me here to write in English ? It is a mirracle ! Here is the short story.
My father always listened to BBC World Service, Indonesian language program. He was interested in...

BBC WORLD SERVICE -ANALYSIS
Advantages: FREE
Disadvantages: ?
...You can find the BBC World Service programme on MW: 648 KHz and
LW: 198 KHz. ANALYSIS 1 of its daily programmes broadcasts at 3.45 most weekdays. Today?s programme covered devolution, Scotland and Tony Blair?s Labour government.
FORMAT
The programme starts with an introduction of the topic and then correspondents report on the subject. Today we had a traditional music accompaniment to the subject. Topics mentioned include electoral empowerment and talk of further independence. News of the Queens attendance at the opening of Hollyroot.
The topic and issues were presented in a way that was not to complex in its analysis in a magazine style. Male and female presenters are included in the show. At 15 minutes it?s not too long to get boring but just long enough to cover the facts.
I listened to mine via Windows Media player...

BBC World View
Advantages: News from around the World
Disadvantages: Thinly veiled petty colonialism
...When I discovered that a local radio station carried the BBC World Service News Hour twice a day I was pleased. Having left England for the US six years ago, I had resigned myself to depending on the insipid reporting provided by National Public Radio. I reasoned that, since the BBC does not depend on funding from large corporations like Archer Daniels Midland, their news service should reflect an independent and unbiased view.
Apparently my reasoning was flawed. The program is infused with an unpleasant arrogance that at times borders on the abusive. Over time I have realised that the attitude of the presenters is a reflection of a common view amongst the English - that everyone else in the world just doesn't quite get it. In fact the BBC World Service would be more appropriately named the BBC World View. This is evident in...

Why First World
Advantages: information
Disadvantages: sometimes I do not agree
...Third world and First world, a commonly used classification that describes the differences between one culture and another but is mainly based on the economic status of the country. I have noticed that when anything untoward happens in a first world country it is brushed aside as “one of them things”, and that’s it, but when it happens to a third world country, one hears cries of “governmental corruption” and “economic miss-management”.
I have watched numerous “news”, and have found that any first world country is shown normally in the light of how beautiful it is, the wonderful wildlife, it’s thriving industries etc, but when it refers to a third world country you are shown mostly the negative aspects, for example, poverty, crime rates, pollution, etc, this in turn has...

Step inside my Gardeners World
Advantages: informative
Disadvantages: too much diy
...the things that used to feature regularly when the irreplacable late Geoff Hamilton was presenter.
Gardeners World is the longest running gardening TV show . It was started off in the sixties by the well known Percy Thrower and has continued in various guises ever since.
It is broadcast usually at 8.30 pm on BBC2 Fridays and is a must watch if you wish to learn about plants and their uses etc.
Any gardener starting out or otherwise can learn from the show particularly from Pippa Greenwood who is the pest and disease expert.
She is about the best presenter for me and she gives great organic advice too. She frequently mentions alternatives to pesticides such as natural predators in the garden. She also looks at growing veg a subject Alan dosen't seem too keen on.
Chris Beardshaw is a likeable young fellow with a good tv future ahead of him...

bbc.co.uk/weather
Advantages: Very informative site from the Beeb
Disadvantages: None
...everywhere?s getting colder, and no one wants to accept that! There?s a search option in the top right corner of the page which allows you to type in a place or postcode which allows you to see a five-day forecast for that place. It will recognise any postcode in the UK, often by placing it in the nearest town.
Since te advent of the Iplayer by the BBC, they?ve incorporated a forecast video into the site which is a clever move and a sensible one given the technology available to them nowadays.
Elsewhere on the page there?s also a host of related links taking you to pages on the BBC site including shipping forecasts, average conditions, climate guides and details for snowsports, along with external website details such as the MET office and World Meteorolgical Organisation?yes, such an organisation exists.
There?s a weather news page...

Welcome to A World Made out of Chocolate
Advantages: Chocolate, Good Signage, Good Play Area
Disadvantages: Took a while to get going, small queues for one of the attractions
... Introduction
Having booked a weeks holiday from work, and no money to actually fly off to sunnier climbs, I was desperate to do something with the family whilst I was off otherwise I wouldn't have derived any tangible benefit from my week away from the office. A list of possible destinations were thrown into the melting pot so to speak, but the one which seemed to get the loudest cheers was Cadbury's World. To tell you the truth I'm not a big chocolate lover, so I wasn't particularly enamoured with the suggestion, but Mrs Supercityfan (SCF) and Master and Miss SCF were adamant that this was where they wanted to go, so in the interests of democracy I was forced to go with the majority decision.

Two Worlds
Advantages: Flexible character development and vast exploration area
Disadvantages: Mounted ride control is horrible
...The story (taken from the official website) :
The world changed when Aziraal, the god of war, was slain in the huge battle long ago. The hordes of Orcs lost their divine leader and were forced to withdraw to the southern wastelands. Now, thousands of years later, the location of Aziraal's tomb is still unknown, well hidden by other gods who did not dare to entrust the secret to mere mortals. However, now, a fragile peace between the civilized races and the hordes is at stake. When the dwarven mining expedition discovered an ancient temple dedicated to an unnamed deity - all of the world's most powerful factions saw it as a possible clue to the place of Azriaal's burial ground. A silent war has now begun and it will soon ignite the fires that will lead to the holy crusade of the Orcs. However, the real danger lies somewhere else...

BBC Excellent Services Online
Advantages: Very professional uptodate online content
Disadvantages: compulsary TV licence fee
...Radio 1 (which is part of the BBC), The Chris Moyles Show, because I got fed up of all the advertising that is on local radio stations. I find Chris Moyles quite funny but sometimes a bit blasphemous in his language (he is not a politically correct DJ, I think he just says the first thing that pops into his head and how it is), while other colleagues of mine who listen to Chris Moyles on their journey think that his team are funnier, and say he seems to be a DJ getting by doing the gags with the minimum of effort. I do remember my parents listening to the BBC World Service and the Archers, when we lived abroad in Africa.
I know many people like us grumble about paying TV licence fees, especially as we do not watch the BBC on Television any more. The BBC unlike other Television services is paid for by the TV licence, unfortunately TV...
