BBC 1 news and reviews.
Advantages: comprehensive and easily accessable
Disadvantages: A lot of it
...A white male tonight read the news. Its presentation was almost identical to earlier sessions today. National Headlines for national TV. Live footage from the Middle East. An interesting piece on Christian America and the workplace. The controller of the BBC has moved to independent TV. They announce a break in the programme which did not seem to happen (an independent channel might have commercial breaks). Towards the end SPORTS news. Followed by local news broadcasters - they have started to use channel 5 presenters and weather both national and local with predictions as far ahead as Friday.
I found watching all 3 sessions in 1 day a bit much, but it is nice to know that you can switch on at selected hours and catch up with today?s news events world wide (very little changed through out the day). It?s good to see a wide variety...

Forget ITN News - BBC1 have it sorted
Advantages: Excellent news readers, reports and coverage, same time every night
Disadvantages: Not on at 9pm any more
...I was angered when BBC1 moved their main news programme from 9.00 p.m. to 10 p.m. I was used to the news at 9 and was happy with it there. Luckily for the BBC, the 10 o'clock news has proved to be very informative and the format well thought out. The link to the local news at 10.25 p.m. is also good - allowing the regional news a whole 10 minutes for their late broadcast.
Conversely, what have ITN been up to? Do they even know? First it's the 11 o'clock news and now it's back to the 10 o'clock news - but when is it actually on at 10 o'clock? Mostly it seems to be on around 10.20 ish - sorry but then shouldn't it be renamed the 10.20 o'clock news? The format of the programme is poor, concentrating more on advertising the Tonight Programme with Trevor MacDonald and worrying about what will be read (briefly) after the ad break. I...

The Ultimate News Source
Advantages: Interesting service
Disadvantages: Bad news for the competitors
...best place to go for current affairs, but it certainly is a service which easily fights off those eager competitors and puts BBC Radio first place in the radio news league tables. Well done BBC. Hooray!
Television News
The BBC prides itself in its television broadcasting, which never seems to be at fault. We’re going to take a brief insight in to the world of BBC Television news programmes and their presenters to see whether improvements can be made on these great shows.
Monday-Friday…
On working days of the week, the BBC has many programmes with news on. Here’s a brief summary of when current affairs can be seen:

NOT THE TEN O CLOCK NEWS ON BBC
Advantages: See above.
Disadvantages: See review for main point.
...The BBC now have the rights to show a ten o’clock news, as we all know after much controversy and media coverage. It is hard to believe that ITV would rubbish the idea of viewers wanting news at ten, but then again their ratings for some movies dropped when they were chopped in two in order for the news to be shown.
Firstly, if you were never a fan of the style of the BBC news, but love to watch at ten, then you’re stuck with it. However, of course ITV does make the news available at eleven o’clock. My personal choice is ITV news; I prefer the brighter, less dour and sombre style of the presentation.
Understandably, the nation is somewhat divided (still) over when and what format the news should take. Generally, why can’t we have the news at ten on ITV, yet when movies and special features are on then...

Good News for the Nocturnal
Advantages: educational
Disadvantages: tune
...I was so glad when BBC News 24 came to BBC1 for the late night news. I am a nocturnal person and like to stay up late at night getting organised. I used to listen to the radio or CDs when working or studying at night but since I discovered news 24 I now watch this in the background.
BBC news 24 covers the whole worlds news in its headlines and features. Features include market watch a summary of all worlds’ stock markets with trend analysis and other important financial information. Asia today is a 20 minute feature roughly about 4am which features the days news in detail in Asia, this is more interesting than it sounds especially as they are growing economies and what happens over there now affects us more than you think.
BBC news presenters are interesting and present the news in an interesting way especially Clarence...

Good News
Advantages: Effecient, high quality
Disadvantages: Repeat stories
...Since their re-launch a few months ago, the BBC News department has improved dramatically, bringing high quality broadcasts, both international, national and local at regular times throughout the day. The professionalism is second to none, with virtually no technical hitches, and no cheap looking graphics. The BBC have some of the best journalists, in some of the best locations, and with their global network of correspondence and methods of communication, reports can be transmitted to the UK almost instantly and from anywhere on the globe. Their coverage of major events, such as the petrol crisis, foot-and-mouth and now the General Election has an is marvellous, with no siding taken – a completely impartial picture.
There are several variations on BBC News, starting with BBC Breakfast in the mornings, a light hearted view...

BBC1 - losing their grip?
Advantages: Best soap, news and sport at the moment
Disadvantages: Losing bits every year when money becomes more and more involved
...What is there that can be said about BBC1 these days? First they lost Des Lynam to ITV, now they have lost Match of the Day in its old form to ITV. They need to come back on track. Until the recent excellent cricket coverage on Channel 4, there is no doubt that BBC1 had a stronghold on almost all sports in terms of the quality of their presenters and their coverage. Currently the Sydney Olympics is being handled remarkably well by the BBC, on both 1 and 2. The sad thing is, soon all that will be left of this will be news, darts and table-tennis if they carry on in this vein....

BBC news still the top
Advantages: fast, comprehensive
Disadvantages: none
...BBC news always has been, and remains, the benchmark for current affairs programmes. They are often first with the news and show no signs of being knocked from the top spot.
The reports are comprehensive and factually correct, from the best correspondents in the most relevant areas of the world. Often the reports are from war zones and the correspondents seem unfazed by looming disaster.
In the studio often new news in intercepted during the show. If it?s happening in the world, it?s on the BBC news in the best possible report....

Gives me morning sickness - i'm not pregnant!
Advantages: Clock, accurate weather
Disadvantages: Annoying presenters
...? I watch it because i can keep it on while i snooze, keep an eye on the clock, catch the weather and not have my brain pounded by overly enthusiastic and loud presenters. Oh, and the BBC London news is good for what i need to know in the morning so i always make sure i catch it for travel news etc. I hate listening to the radio in the morning, so save that for my car journey to the train station, and GMTV is about a hundred times worse and thats the only reason why i'd recommend it. It's like breafast news on speed....

Boxing News
Advantages: Quality, Easy To read, Likable
Disadvantages: Short, Price, Formulaic
...If Ring magazine is the world champion of boxing magazine it's big European rival is British based Boxing News that is now celebrating it's 100th year in production. It's currently a weekly magazine (though it's a registered paper) priced at £2.80 and released on a Friday ever week. Although the history of how it's become what it is, is an interesting story that saw one of my personal hero's Harry Mullan become it's editor for quite some time before his very untimely death, this review will stick to what the magazine currently is.
It's currently almost full of regular features, like most magazines and it's opening article titled ?Fighting Talk? is written by current editor Claude Abrams and although not always a fan of his views an opinions it's often a well written piece to open the magazine. It's almost certainly based on just...
