Director Garry Marshall's 1988 drama Beaches about the 30-year friendship between two women, one wealthy (Barbara Hershey) and the other (Bette Midler) seeking her fortune in show business, is well written (based on the novel by Iris Rainer Dart) and nicely textured in its contrast between the characters' separate destinies. When Hershey becomes ill with cancer, the film takes a predictably sentimental course, yet Marshall brings out the best in both actresses and catches some very fine drama. Ghana, my experience.
Advantages: beautiful people and beautiful country
Disadvantages: none really
...In October 2003, my best mate and I did something that to this day, I cannot believe we did, we went to Ghana for a week on our own, no kids or partners.
We have 10 children between us and had disgust many times that we thought we deserved a break, never really beleiving that we would go away for a week-end to the beach, let alone Ghana!
After a long shift at work one night, my mate went home...

On the beach
Advantages: great story and perfomances
Disadvantages: a bit too long
...with both hands, but at the same time he remains realistic with the likelihood that the hope is unjustified. Dr. Julian Osborne is just totally the opposite and more selfish man who does not believe that the people in the north survived. He spends rather his last day drinking at his home on the beach, but he wants to impress his ex (the sister in law of Lt. Peter Holmes) so he goes anyway. He provides...

Beach Gold!
Advantages: Great setting, Casual wear allowed, Clean and tidy, Lovely food. Friendly staff
Disadvantages: A tad expensive, Menu not extensive, limited space, service a bit to relaxed.
