Sexy and svelte red berry va va voom !

Advantages: Delicious, elegant flavours, refreshing
Disadvantages: Limted availability

...merchant I had a revelatory experience with a red burgundy produced by Jean-Jacques Girard. It was labelled simply as 'JJ Girard Bourgogne Rouge' in classical French fashion with little other information apart from its vintage date of 2005 and the fact it was refreshingly moderate 12.5% alcohol (no where does it say it was made from Pinot Noir). I was able to sample a little of it from the tasting table at Averys of Bristol, was very taken with it and soon snaffled up a bottle at the agreeable offer price of £8.99 (full price of £9.99). Since it is labelled as a regular Bourgogne Rouge this means the Pinot Noir grapes that it was made from could come from anywhere in the Burgundy region and are generally not sourced from any particular village commune e.g. Beaune, Santenay, Aloxe-Corton. Girard apparently uses grapes from his vineyards near...

Bourgogne - The Vineyard Holiday

Advantages: Plenty of vineyards and chateaus
Disadvantages: Older kids may find it boring

...I have been to France many times, always visiting the Dordogne area which I love, but our friends recommended Burgundy for a change of scenery and gastronomy. We went to the Burgundy region in October 2004 for a week, self catering in a wonderfully topsy turvy farmhouse, set in 3000sq metres of garden in a hilly village near Burgundy's wine capital Beaune, with 3 vineyards within walking distance. October was quite a nice month to visit, as the grapes had all been harvested and the autumn colours were just starting to settle in. The weather was fine, slightly breezy and thankfully only rained on our last day. We drove using Eurotunnel from Folkestone to Calais, and then began the long haul down to Burgundy. It seemed like a very long drive, and we have driven to the Dordogne many times, so I knew to expect very straight boring...

Review of Burgundy (France)

Are there any Chardonnay lovers out there ?

Advantages: Well balanced, sumptuous flavours, wide availability, great when on offer
Disadvantages: Wish full price was lower

...punched well above its weight and at this price it is a top quality everyday glugger if you like your Chardonnay with a full and creamy mouth feel, medium-full body with only moderate use of oak. In many ways it reminded me of a decent white Burgundy with its creamy, buttery, peach-melon fruit nose and supple yet generous feel in the mouth with decent acidity. The fruit on the palate was easy going without being explosive and unlike some northern Burgundies (e.g. Cote de Beaune) was predominantly tropical in nature. This wine was fermented in stainless steel vats and its only exposure to oak came with brief aging in barrels so the oak flavour in the wine was only subtle and elegant. It finished well too with some nicely balancing cleansing acidity which gave the body some verve. There was reasonable length too with some tropical fruit...

Review of Tesco Finest Guentota Estate Chardonnay

Cheap White Burgundy ! Oh la la !

Advantages: Great value when discounted, resonably balanced
Disadvantages: Maybe needs a touch more acidity

...Chardonnay is made from grapes sourced from the Cote Chalonnaise area of Burgundy by the co-operative Caves des Vignerons de Buxy. This co-operative is also responsible for making some of the wines under the popular Blason de Bourgogne label. The Cote Chalonnaise is situated to the south of the Cote de Beaune which is responsible for some of White Burgundies big, illustrious and expensive hitters such as Puligny- Montrachet and Mersault. Hence Chardonnays from the Cote Chalonnaise tend to be better value and can offer well made, pleasantly drinkable if less complex and age worthy wines. This wine is labelled as an Appelation Controlee Bourgogne but some of the white village Chardonnay wines from the Cote Chalonnaise such as Rully, Montagny and Givry are also worth investigating for an option cheaper than its northern neighbours. I eagerly undid...

Pork - The Aroma Of The French Country Kitchen

Advantages: Delicious, Healthy Low Fat, Economical, Different
Disadvantages: Can't see any

...How lovely to walk into a home that smells like France, the warm pungent aromas of succulent pork, gently simmered garlic and a touch of dry french Muscadet wine, circulating and promising dinner delights. Add to that a dish of Puree de Pommes de Terre and a glass of a fairly robust french red, such as a Medoc, Cotes de Beaune or Beaujolais and you have all the ingredients for an inexpensive authentic French midweek meal that is sure to impress. All you need now is the right cut of meat! Have you ever been, like us to France, or another country for that matter, and longed to recreate the innovative and original dishes you enjoyed there at home? You return home only to bemoan the fact that the same choice cuts of meat are not offered to us? Well, Merci Beaucoup le Co-op !! for filling a gap! We were delighted to see Pork...

Review of Co-op Pork Tenderloin

Lashings of refreshing French chardonnay

Advantages: Well balanced, elegant and lively flavours
Disadvantages: High acidity

...Most of us white wine lovers like a Chardonnay from time to time and we enjoy a lot of examples from regions of the New World such as Chile, California and Australia but how many of us would chose a White Burgundy from France ? Not many I guess as many regular wine drinkers I've heard have found it an expensive and hard to understand region. One of the reasons why is that White Burgundy is generally not labelled as Chardonnay despite this grape making the vast, vast majority of its wines. Indeed according to those wine experts Burgundy is responsible for some of the finest and most exquisite examples of Chardonnay in the world with bank balance crippling prices for some of its greatest wines from the tiny area of Cote de Beaune at the northern end of Burgundy e.g. Mersault, Puligny-Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne. These wines are named...

...of the name, 1870-1952) gave new impuls to the house's activity by purchasing several smaller Burgundy wine houses. Albert Bichot (second of the name, 1900-1996) was one of the pioneers of the 'great export' trade conquering markets in numerous countries including America. Albert Bichot (third of the name, born 1931) has managed the business for many years and introduced new philosophy. This was a new era of development with the purchase of an aging cellar of more than 2 million bottles capacity, a new bottling plant and building of cellars. Albert Bichot maison owns vineyards in and around Chablis, and Beaune. In Chablis they are farming almost 70 hectares of wines, the majority situated in six prestigious Grand Crus. They produce many different wines including: • Chablis; • Pouilly-Fuisse; • Chardonnay; • Pinot Noir...

...guides in his time. He also sheers sheep in Sweden, a lucrative business which helps bring in the pennies and he also does a few odd sheering jobs in England too as well as play guitar in restaurants in London. Putting his business in order before moving therefore is not really a problem. Whereas Ana must find a manager for her Holticultural business in Essex and fill out lots of forms to be able to bring her dog BEAUNE (named after a favorite french wine) to Spain. Chris has a very intelligent, observant and humourous talent when writting this book, introducing us to a host of truley ,wonderfully coulourful characters. Be it the 'Pompous Fart' Pedro, who they have bought the farm from, who insists 'we are poor people and now we are poorer' and rides bare back on his horse through the dry barren hills, singing to his menagerie...
