Dance Hall at Louse Point - a dark and beautiful experiment

...The very fact that Dance Hall at Louse Point (which was released in 1996) has been listed on Ciao since 2003 and yet this is the first review is indicative of this way that this album was released, promoted and received. It was released just as PJ Harvey was riding the crest of the wave of success of the album 'To Bring You My Love', but it seemed to go almost unnoticed, perhaps because top bill went to John Parish (who wrote and played the music, whilst PJ Harvey wrote the lyrics and sang vocals) and she was listed as Polly Jean Harvey rather than the usual PJ Harvey we know and love her as. Critics saw it as an art experiment, reviews of it are mixed, but to me it retains that bluesy rock sound that we know PJ Harvey for and is a beautiful and oddly crafted album of dark moods, angular guitar and percussion and an array of vocal styles...

MY LITTLE BEAUTY

Advantages: Instantaneous results, youthful, radiant, vibrant skin

...Until very recently I'd never tried a single Clarin's product and until even more recently I didn't believe that beauty products really could work miracles. So what has caused the cynic in me to disappear? My in laws gave me a birthday present that is a pretty little pink box containing a number of Clarin's trial size products. Beauty Flash Bum!

...I was given a tube of this 'wonder cream' as a Christmas present from my in-laws just last Christmas. It sat inside my dressing table drawer until about three weeks ago, still in its original box/packaging etc, unused. I don't know why it's taken me so long to open the box and read the 'instructions leaflet' and actually use the stuff - maybe I was having a 'premonition' about it?? I have to say, Clairins Beauty Flash Balm, or, as it states in the French (also on the packaging/tube) "Baume Beaute Eclair" has been probably THE most disappointing beauty product I have used, EVER!! As you walk through the entrance gates, through the stone wall, you will be confronted by the stone built steps leading directly up to the grand front door of the building, the beautiful green lawns on either side of the short pathway. The look of the building is stunningly eerie as you glance up at the overlooking windows You will enjoy the walk as you visit the stoned flagged hall, the unique tapestry room and the grand bedrooms with there four poster beds. There is also toys from the 1860s which lay undisturbed in the nursery. Some rooms contain clothing and other historical artefacts all belonging to the ancestors of the present owners. Spa Facilities Risley Hall has a large spa area with a very nice indoor heated pool and Jacuzzi as well as a steam room and a sauna. We used these a lot while we were there and they were brilliant it was never busy only two or three people there at once, it is in a large conservatory with lots of light. It was clean and well maintained. There were lots of seats around the pool area and towels were provided by the spa. They have their own lockers and changing rooms, with showers, hairdryers and even shampoo. They also offer massages and various other treatments including beauty salon and manicures. ...It's that time of year again, winter!! and to start it off I have a cold so this morning at the station I bought my favourite pack of cough sweet, Halls Soothers. Each packet was £0.65 but this was a station and I know you can get them cheaper in places like Boots etc. Halls are quite an impressive company. According to their website they account for more than 50% of international cough drop sales and their Halls Soothers range is the UK's number 1 medicated confectionery product. Halls was actually started by two brothers, The Hall Brothers in 1893 and originally they produced soap and jams. Hardwick Old Hall

Advantages: Historical, interesting, great views
Disadvantages: Not a huge amount to see

...climbing up to the top floor (there are 4) to see the whole view. Most of the Hall is not accessible for wheelchairs as there are steps everywhere. CONCLUSION: I would definitely recommend seeing the Old Hall if you?re visiting Hardwick. I wouldn?t make the trip just for the Old Hall but if you?re going to the main Hall then you can?t really miss this as it tells the complete story of Bess if you see both. It?s not much extra on the admission price and as both National Trust and English Heritage get in free I don?t think it?s bad value, especially as the audio guide is included. Although it?s a ruin, it?s a beautiful ruin and so full of History....
