...I don't know what genius marketing man came up with the "designer lager" idea but around 10-15 years ago new bottled lagers would come out every so often and you just HAD to be seen in your local with your fist wrapped around one. Sol with the lime in it was one of them, Grolsch with the flip top was another and so was Beck's. All the local hard boys (and girls) on our manor used to drink it. You used to get funny looks in the boozer if you stood about drinking anything else. Now of course I've grown older and drink bitter usually but just out of curiousity I had a taster of it the other day. I'm sure you're all desperate to know what happened so please read on....... Beck's

Advantages: tasty.
Disadvantages: pricey.. i prefer other beers

...I usually buy foster's.. but beck's was on sale at a reduced price at the local tesco, so i thought "hmm, why not?" so i bought myself two bottles and decided to give it a taste. and result was, pretty good! Beck's originates from Germany, from the town of Bremen, and was first made in 1874. Curiously enough, on the front of the bottle, next to "bremen 1874" it also says "philadelphia 1876". It's not incredibly strong, but stronger than most beers. Nice golden colour to it. While i was trying to open the bottle, I realised i did not have a bottle opener, and panicked, as i cannot quite open a bottle with my teeth.. but back to the review.. It has a cool refreshing taste, but if u like the creamy type, such as foster's or smth like guiness, u won't like this too much. as i've stated under disadvantages, there is other stuff that...

...Beck?s ? a light beer, is imported from Germany unlike other foreign beers like, for example, Heineken, which is more than likely, is brewed in Romford, Essex for UK consumption. Brewed in Beck Brewery located in Bremen in the north of Germany, where the beer styles tend to favour the slightly drier taste. As this beer is imported from Germany it is brewed under strict regulations of the German Purity Law (Reinheitsgebot) established in 1516. (Just after quarter-past three!). This establishes that beer must only contain; Hops, Barley Malt, Yeast and Water. This beer is 5 percent alcohol by volume; this is quite high when compared to most UK beers but quite normal strength for German beers. Becks Green Lemon - a sour lemon more like ....

Advantages: Refreshing thirst quencher
Disadvantages: It's not the Becks we know and love.

...Becks Beer was founded by a Bremen businessman called Luder Rutenberg in 1873. The beer gets it's name from the man who was hired to oversee the brewing - Heinrich Beck. Becks adopted the "key of Bremen" as it's symbol and it is printed on every label. I have personally drunk Becks beer since my teens when I was stationed in Germany with the army - the crisp flavour and taste being it's main attractions. So when I saw Becks Green Lemon beer on the shelf in my local Tesco store I decided to try it. Becks.. No Not The Annoying Footballer, The Beer

Advantages: Nice crisp taste, nicer than Bud

Beck returns with another fine album.

Advantages: It's totally different from anything he's done before.
Disadvantages: It's just under 35 minutes long.

...Beck has now released so many albums that I'm beginning to lose count. Modern Guilt is his 13th. Every Beck release sounds completely different from the previous one. He is so versatile. Whereas 2006's The Information had an electro/hip hop feel to it, Modern Guilt pays tribute to 1960's British beat groups and in keeping with its influences the album contains only 10 songs and is only 35 minutes in length. Another notable fact about Modern Guilt is that it was produced by Danger Mouse, the critically acclaimed producer who released a record called The Grey Album which mixed capella versions of Jay Z's The Black Album over samples from The Beatles' White Album. Beck gone country?

Advantages: it's Beck only more mellow
Disadvantages: You can dance to it....except Tropicalla

...This album, not the official follow up to Odelay is more of a side project. It doesn't have any of the over produced and mixed sound of either Odelay or Midnite Vultures. Beck's influences come out here more obviously than ever. You can here the country singer in him, with his folk song and modern blues. It is very mellow and relaxed, perfect soundtrack to a lazy afternoon - that is if you don't go too deeply into the lyrics which are more personal on this album than on any of his other albums. Beck is a man of many talents, and this album is not one that should be left on the shelves....

Review of Mutations - Beck

I can definitely "Sea Change" in Beck

Advantages: Chilled out almost accoustic album with the excellent lyrical content you'd expect from Beck
Disadvantages: Might not be what you were expected (although i wouldn't call this a disadvantage)

...First of all I would have to disagree with reviews that this album is reverting back to the style of Mutations. I think this is confused with the fact that this album is so different from Beck?s other albums that they are trying to find a link and as the music is slower and heavy on the acoustic guitar I can see where they are coming from. However. Sea Change, is a very chilled out, melodic album, where Beck seems to be doing a bit of self reflection. The lyrics are, whilst being very cleaver, seem slightly depressing. "It's a treacherous road With a desolated view There's distant lights But here they're far and few And the sun don't shine Even when its day" But at the same time it is a brilliant album which has a relaxing tone and feel to it and gives you the feel of a lazy summer afternoon. Advantages: 5 YEAR CONCEPTION IS OVER FOR BECK & GODRICH
Disadvantages: COVERING ACCIDENTLY COVERED GROUND SOMEWHAT

...A trademark Latino-tinged Beck sound is delivered unto us once again. 'Elevator Music' greets us at the outset of 'The Information', the latest offering from the genius that is Beck. A lax, streetwise opener to what surely will be another great LP. A less imaginative 'I Think I'm In Love' follows, ambling along repeatedly, until towards the songs close, when we hear the interjection of some sharp strings. 'Cell Phone's Dead' s cold electro pop, accompanies an urgent sounding and on form Beck. With the odd sample of a boy saying "1 x 1, I'll knock you out", some great scratching from DJ Z trip, taking over from DJ Foodcourt ( Becks pseudonym) and some well placed echo effect, all these things are brought together to set the LP on it's way. Some ramshackle yet soulful singing alongside some chaotic but more acoustic sounding...
