...Newbury is the home town of Vodafone-Airtouch and other hi-tech growth companies so accommodation locally is both scarce and expensive. So its good to find Tile Barn House (http://www.eto.org.uk/tbh), a friendly, comfortable bed and breakfast in the village of Woolton Hill - quiet and off the beaten track but just ten minutes from Newbury and four minutes from the A34 road between Winchester and Oxford. This is a family house not an hotel, so don't expect to meet a night porter, but you can come and go as you please. The rooms are large, the beds comfortable, with television and tea and coffee facilities in each room. They are flexible in their approach to breakfast - any time up to 9.30 and apparently quite happy to feed you at 6.30 am if you have an early start. ...I stayed in New Union Hotel (NU) in September 2004. The hotel was booked in a haste on the fact that it was located in the centre of Manchester. The location is very convinient to both Oxford road and Manchester City Centre. The rooms were spacious, fitted with a TV and all ensuite with double beds. Linen was clean and crisp, Tea/Coffee were supplied. On the negative side, the rooms had a distinct smell as if they hadn't been aired for a long time. The bathroom, although clean, was in need of a good scrubbing. My room was switched as the TY wasn't under operation and there was no bed light, or a switch close to the bed. And lastly, the hotel is situated above a pub/nightclub. Although this didn't effect me, it may be of consideration to someone with a less sound sleep. ...Excellent budget travel hotel. We arrived at 11.30pm andeven at this time it was no problem for the staff to make up a kids spare bed and put a baby's cot into our room. Accomodation appeared very new and was spotlessly clean. Buffet breakfast was in the adjoining service station, with a wonderful choice. Cooked breakfasts were served to the table by a very friendly waiter, while in addition you also have the option of helping yourself to as much as you can eat from the continental buffet breakfast. Great value, especially as the kids ate for free. Although based in a maotorway service station this hotel was noise free, and we all had a great nights sleep. We will definately stay there when next visiting that part of the country and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.... Read review

...We Quatro Fontanas (or the Fountain Travel Club) stayed at the casa Franci last October. The first thing to stress is that this is Bed & Breakfast not a Hotel. The owner and his Family used to live in this Flat (Apartment) they have made it into a Bed & Breakfast and have another Apartment nearby. We booked through VENERE.COM which we find is quite a good site for Italian Destinations, one advantage of this site is that you do not have to pay up front when you book. You pay the Hotel on arrival, so if you need to cancel there is no cancellation charges given the correct notice. The Apartment is located in a Steet to the left of St Peters about 200 yards from St Peters. When you arrive you need to be in the end of the street furthest from St Peters Just past a Large Church. Advantages: Stylish and elegant with an excellent restaurant
Disadvantages: Room initially cold - on a snowy January evening.

...Decided to have an early January break with my wife in a hotel which was different from the usual "corporate" style. We took advantage of an offer at Beamish Hall and paid around £135 total for dinner, bed and breakfast in a premier room. It was snowing when we drove up to this elegant building with ample car parking. The roaring fire in the reception hall was very welcoming, as was the greeting from the reception team. We were quickly directed to our huge room, with antique furniture and bed, and a newly installed double jacuzzi bathroom. Our only problem was that the room was rather cold, but this was rectified by the helpful staff, by the provsion of an additional heater. Before dinner we had a drink, at very reasonable prices, in the small bar. We enjoyed an excellent meal from table d'hote menu, with very friendly and professional... Read review

...The reference to eat your heart out does not relate to the quality of the food because, being honest, I only stayed there on a bed and breakfast basis. It relates to all thye other 4 star hotels I have stayed in, particularly in the UK. The hostel is absolutely fantastic. You cannot help but be impressed by its entrance hall which will match nost seen at this category of hotel but, go to the first floor to be amazed. It has a central piazza where, not only can you enjoy breakfast but sip an evening drink or two or just coffee if that is your preference, but every evening there is live music to enjoy ranging from quartet to opera. There are internal glazed lifts in operation to add to the feeling of luxury and the rooms are placed around the piazza area which extends upwards to the, whatever floor. These homes were built by rural landowners so that they would have a place to stay when they came into town for church on Sunday. The town of Fredericksburg, Texas is where many of my German descendants first settled when they came to Texas. ...I stay at various Hotels and Bed and Breakfasts around the country, presently working in York I have found a very nice quiet hotel near the city center that doesn't cost a fortune. The place is called ABBOTS MEWS HOTEL and it is just to the West of York town centre about 8 mins walk. Advantages. Approximately £50.00 bed/breakfast/evening meal. A car park that is large enough. Friendly staff and an excellent evening meal menu with something for everyone. Service in the dining room is prompt and efficient, checking in/out doesn't take forever as at other hotels. It really is 8 mins from the town center but is also very quiet, no traffic noise or drunken yobs heading home from the pub. It appears to be favoured by older guests who revisit every few years and of couse people like myself seeking quality economical accomodation close... Read review
