Belfast City airport - the airport IN Belfast

Advantages: In Belfast, very much expanded, convenient
Disadvantages: Limited retail facilities

...Continuing my reviews of Northern Irish airports, I thought that I should add a new review to those on Belfast City airport, because, wow!, this place has improved. Basically, a few years ago Belfast City airport really was not much to write home about. Now, it has majorly expanded. It still caters mainly to the domestic flights, but that is a major market for people from Northern Ireland, as we have to fly to get to most places! Easyjet is at Belfast International (Aldergrove), but there are some low cost flights into Belfast City (check out British European). Belfast City airport is conveniently located in Belfast (its major selling point), and is easily reached by car. It is also (in my opinion) better served by public transport than Belfast International, if only because a taxi ride to any of the connections is not going to...

Ramada Belfast

Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -

...I stayed in the Ramada Hotel in Belfast and I must say that the experiance had its flaws and its charms. I normally stay in the Hilton or the Europa in Belfast if I ever decide to stay but because of the busy Valintines Day period I was unable to book a room in either of these hotels so I then decided to book a room with the Ramada. The price of this hotel was reasonable, at £79 a night, I think that this is a great price for a hotel of this standard because compared to the Hilton thats rooms can cost up to £125 a night for a twin room this is a great price for a Friday night, though the Travel Lodge probably would have been cheaper if you decide to go away for lesiure reasons sometimes that hotel wont cut it. The Room I received was clean, tidy and had lots of space in it, there were two double beds and it allowed smoking (as I...

Belfast International Airport

Advantages: Internet, Cheap car parking
Disadvantages: Can get boring after 18 hours

...Belfast International Airport (Belfast Aiport) I flew out of belfast airport around four years ago, when I did fly out of the airport it was a bad time to fly out. The day before we where to depart to orlando the shoe bomber came on the scene! So the airport secuirty was put up. But the airline I was travelling with most of their planes had Technical difficuilties. So I was delayed for 30 hours and had to stay in the Hilton over night. So I should be able to tell you enough about it as I was in it for 24 hours. Area... The Belfast airport isn't in belfast, it is closer to Antrim a city near belfast. The airport is around 12 or 13 miles away from Belfast. So I don't know why they called it Belfast International Airport. But there is a hotel beside the airport. So if you have a early flight and you coudn't be bothered to get up...

Travelodge Belfast

Advantages: Cheap, very friendly staff, great location
Disadvantages: No luggage storage, basic room

...I stayed at the Travelodge Belfast in October 2007. The reason for a trip to Belfast was a concert to which I had received free tickets. I left booking the hotel til a couple of weeks before the concert and there wasn't a great deal of choice available. We paid £79.00 for the room, I booked it on a site where I paid 10% deposit and paid the reaminder on arrival at the hotel. We stayed on a Monday night, we got the bus from the airport to the Europa Bus Centre which is located in the city centre. We walked the short distance to the hotel (it is basically down a street and across the road - about 2 minutes walk). We found the hotel easily and were greeted by the receptionist who was very friendly and enthusiastic about the city and the concert we were attending. We were checked in quickly with no problems. The receptionist spent...

Belfast We love our City No Bomber in my Garden

Advantages: Great place..
Disadvantages: none your safe with me

...Belfast.....My Home Town..... --------------------------------- I was just in Belfast today getting my daughters school uniform and although it was really busy I realised how much it had changed in the last five years. It has become more European and the shops in the City have got so much better. The bloddy people still bump into you though but I still find a swift elbow works every time.. Cast my mind back 25 years or so and Belast was suffering the worst bombing of any town in the UK and I have to say I admire the average Belfast person like myself as we have put up with a lot. But we still have a smile on our face!! So does Belfast differ any say from Nottingham or Manchester. I have been to Manchester, Leeds and Glasgow and I would say it is more like Glasgow. Belfast has all the main stores like HMV, Virgin...

The Belfast Zoo

Advantages: Lots for people to see and do
Disadvantages: Quite hilly and wear something warm if not sunny as it is open to the elements

...The Belfast Zoo is set in the beautiful Cave hill area, from the top of the zoo there is such a view over the lough and Belfast. When you arrive at the zoo there is quite a steep approach and inside the zoo is quite hilly too which is not great for people with walking difficulties. There is an electric train which travels all the way round the zoo so you dont have to miss out. Prices our reasonable and disabled people go free. The first things you encounter when you enter the zoo are a kids farm on the left hand side there kids can see a number of animals, donkeys, cows, goats, pigs and piglets snakes, bats, also in this area there are lemurs which run free it is wonderful for kids and adults alike. Leave the farm and on your right there is a lake with beautiful flamingos and an island with spider monkeys, move a little further on and there is...

Life is the City

Advantages: Slick, stylish, funny, brilliantly acted and based on truth
Disadvantages: You might not like violence or subtitles - comparisons to 'Pulp Fiction'

...and the police ? guns from every angle? pointing at him. His life in the ghetto passes before his eyes, and with it he becomes our narrator and guide. We are back in the 1970?s where Rocket (Alexandre Rodriguez), our narrator, begins to try and tell us his story ? a story which is inextricably linked to some of the most violent events in the history of the ?City?. The camera focuses on one person, quickly pulling back and focusing on another as he tells us, ?? in order to tell you about Lil? Ze, I?ll need to tell you about Shaggy. In order to tell you about Shaggy, I?ll have to tell you about the Tender Trio*?. Stylish editing and cinematography throw us from one story, slickly into the next - with different eras being distinguished by different tones of film (oranges and dusty yellows for the seventies, and more bluish, greyish colours...

Review of City Of God (DVD)

A life less ordinary

Advantages: A really original story
Disadvantages: Observation only

...out. The author seems to be almost a passive observer of his own life. (As aside, but in a somewhat ?High Fidelity? way, the author compares a lot of things/events/people to films that he has seen and so says ?Grand Hotel (Greta Garbo, Lionel Barrymore, 1932)". It is a technique but I found it mildly irritating and it certainly would get on your nerves if this was done in person in conversation (and I suspect it would be). A fair proportion of this book is set in South Africa and the ?stealing water? of the title is because the family are reduced to a hand-to-mouth existence on the fringes of society and of criminality to survive: They really are taking the water from the next door house at one point. As far as African memoirs are concerned, this is certainly very different ? there are few game drives, almost no animals and only one...

Europa Hotel Belfast

Advantages: The Surroundings
Disadvantages: The Night Time

...If you are thinking of going to Belfast then this is the place to stay. Situated in Belfast city center the Europa is a popular hotel with the tourists. The hotel is crammed with friendly staff who are always there ready to help. The food in the hotel is very nice and they also have a buffet style in the morning but if it is not what you like then you can just stroll around the corner into the center. There you will find lots of bars, nightclubs, restaurants and Irish pubs. The rooms are very modern and up to date and the whole hotel is spotless from top to bottom. If you are going to stay then make sure you bring a big wallet because the hotel can be pricey and you may also want some ear plugs for night time because around the hotel can get pretty noisy epically on weekends. All in all the hotel is probably the best in Belfast and there...

travelodge belfast

Advantages: cheap clean rooms
Disadvantages: quite basic

...When looking for somewhere to go for my hen night (or weekend as it turned out to be) I wanted somewhere cheap not just for me but for the others as well, as most of them are on budgets too. I scowered the internet and came up with two nights including flights with a well known budget airline for £90. Bargin we said and booked it. As we were a group booking I was unable to do this on the Travelodges website so I had to phone the main reservations up. This was a simple thing to do as my call was answered very quick and rooms booked all in approximatly 5 minutes. Then everything else was done via email such as booking forms, confirmations etc. When we got to Belfast we took a taxi to the Travelodge on first impressions it seemed fine and the recepionist was very smiley. As we arrived in the morning our rooms weren't ready so we were...
