The Belgium of theme parks
Advantages: Good range of rides, decent range of food and drink, no pressure selling
Disadvantages: Queues on certain rides
...Twenty-five minutes drive south-east of Brussels, and just south of the French-Brussels language border is the town of Wavre, on the outskirts of which is a theme park, Walibi Belgium. Originally opened in 1975 by Eric Meeus (there is a plaque in his honour just inside the gates), the park has changed names a number of times in the few years we have lived here ? Walibi, Six Flags and back to Walibi again. On part of the complex, there is Aqualibi, which is a water theme park, but since I have never been inside, this review will only deal with the park. Aqualibi is subject to a separate charge from the main park.
WHAT RIDES ARE THERE?
Walibi is a serious theme park, with lots of rides that you would expect at places like Alton Towers or Chessington World of Adventures. The park has classified the rides under four headings...

Taste of Sprouts: The proxamity of Belgium
Advantages: It's close, it's charms are well known
Disadvantages: It's confusing
...Taking advantage of some exceptionally good travel offers from an on-line travel agent we recently spent a five-day ?City break? exploring Belgium. We had been to Brussels before (a short pre-Christmas trip about five years ago) so heeding the advice of that CIAO sage Proxam we decided to see some more of the country than just the capital. We were also quite curious to experience for ourselves the suggested ?Unity of Europe? there at the heart of the Community. Maybe we would be able to divine something of the truth behind all the current political and economical manoeuvrings. After all I have been more than happy to use the Euro because it has the attraction of being foreign ? just as long as it remains so! I have also enjoyed other trips to foreign lands ? it is the foreignness that makes them so appealing.

Beer, Breweries, Bars and Belgium!
Advantages: A good guide with useful info and humour.
Disadvantages: Is only his opinions.
...There are a few things that I just HAVE to pack when we go to Belgium. These are passport (can't get out of the country without it), money (beer tokens are needed for the trip!), clean underwear (well we ARE in company) and Tim Webb's Good Beer Guide Belgium. We do go to Belgium quite often and like to head off on the train to cities, towns and villages near where we are staying. Usually this is to check out the bars and to sample new and interesting beers. This is why the Good Beer Guide Belgium has become an essential tool for the Belgian Beer drinker.
~~~THE LAYOUT.
The book is divided into sections making it very easy to find what you want. The index is also split into an alphabetical list of places and then beers, so you can cross reference the two if you need. The sections of the book are detailed on the contents page...
Belgium IS cool and froody
Advantages: A real Goscinny book...
Disadvantages: ...but the last one.
...appearance, despite the lack of sea travel. One conceit that doesn't quite work, though, is to have the characters vaguely aware of their fictional status - at one point Obelix even says, "right, that's the end of the story, so we can tie up the bard and bring on the boar" - and indeed this gets forgotten before long.
Uderzo's illustrations are as good as ever - in fact, this is one of the strongest Asterix books in that department. The bright and vivid colours are just right for a knockabout tale such as this, and Uderzo's gift for facial expression is given full rein. He even attempts an audacious full-page illustration of a feast, in the style of a very famous painting (I won't spoil the surprise), and I think he just about pulls it off.
Asterix in Belgium isn't a bad way for the "real" Asterix series to end - not exactly with a bang, but...
I would say the nicest town in Belgium
Advantages: A reallynice town for a trip, you can reach it quickly by train or car.
Disadvantages: Few of the people is speaking english.
...For my first opinion on Ciao UK i choosed something I know perfectly, Namur.
First I would like to mention that english is far to be mymother tongue and that I'm writing here to improve my english. So don't judge me too hard, but don't hesitate to post any comment on BIG errors.
Okay just go on with the real subject now.
Namur is in Belgium, I bet you all know where Belgium is. So I won't explain you how to get in Belgium.
Namur is the headcity of Wallonia ( Belgium is dived in two main areas, Flandria and Wallonia, In Wallonia we speak french and in Flandria, they speak Dutch ).
The first thing you notice when ariving in Namur, is its castle, on top of the city, dominating it. That's really a good place to visit, cause thats full of nice history facts. More there is a little perfume enterprise quite famous, its name is...
Belgium,Belgium,Beautiful Belgium!
Advantages: English speaking,friendly people,beautiful!
Disadvantages: Pickpockets
...Having lived for 2 years in Belgium I thought I must write a review on this place.
I adore Brussels and Belgium in general, and now regard it as my home away from home.
I first went to Belgium on a school holiday with the History and Geography sector, but I didn't think too much of it back then in 1994. But how things change!
I was offered a job in Belgium, just outside Brussels in August 2000 to work as a nanny in a French family, and have loved the place ever since.
I visit Brussels as often as I can as I still have very close friends living there, it's great to have somewhere to stay when visiting. Very practical indeed!
I have just spent the past 4 months living back in Belgium, and I still love it there as much as I ever did.
Belgium is a very multi-cultured place to visit, with people visiting constantly from all...
Brussels on a budget
Advantages: easy to get to, the Grand Place
Disadvantages: Mannakin Pis is dissapointing, takcy tourist shops
...Question
What does one do when you want to celebrate finishing the taught part of a Masters degree and want to go away but are so broke even the cheapest trip to Spain is not an option?
Answer.
Book a very cheap flight for a mini break to Brussels the capital of Belgium. I did this in June 2003 and I had a great time.
I flew with Ryanair from John Lennon airport in Liverpool to Charleroi airport in Brussels. Or so I thought it was in Brussels. It was near enough an hour from the airport to Midi railway station. The connecting bus is a rip off at 10 euros. Since there were four of us on the way there we took a taxi that cost us 35 euros. The airfare was really cheap. It only cost £20 for a return fare including all taxes.
Due to the European Parliament Brussels has cheap hotels at the weekend instead of during mid week. We were...
Farting Sheep, Bacon Houses and Severed Hands
Advantages: Some interesting, unique and very unsual places to see and venture into
Disadvantages: Not a major city for things to see and do
...the foreign language pages before realising they did have it in English too I discovere a small shopping arcade nearby.
Located between the Grote Markt and Groenplaats this housed a selection of fashion shops and also had a decent branch of GB - the local equivalent of Tesco - where we stocked up on picnic food and presents of the chocolate-variety for those back home. The actual chocolate shops of Antwerp disapointed me as they all seemed small and offered only pick-and-mix style chocolates. Although these looked delicious it seemed they were missing the point of so many tourists coming to Belgium for chocolate shopping - to take back gifts for friends and family. I really thought there would have been demand for a set-up more like Thorntons where as well as those pick-and-mix ones you can wander round and pick from a range of pre...
Pretty, Oh so Pretty
Advantages: Sweet Belgian city with some interesting unique things to see
Disadvantages: Not booming out of season
......pretty and witty and bright...charming, oh, so charming ...
Ghent was our the other city we spent time in during our recent trip to Belgium, and I think I preferred it to Antwerp. Your initial feeling when entering a foreign city for a first time can often be an indication of how much you'll enjoy your stay - it's not about how good a city is on paper, or how other people perceive it, but what you think of it that really matters, and Ghent and I got on like a house on fire.
Ghent has a rustic Italian feel to it, without being either rustic or Italian. I think what I mean is that it feels traditional, properly-European, complete with old cobbled streets, gaudy cathedrals and churches and a sweet old castle. It's a nice quiet place to look around at times, such as Sunday morning when all good natives are at Mass and there are not...
If Belgium got to the world cup and pigs could fly
Advantages: could have put Belgium on the map
Disadvantages: it didn't happen....
...This is a truly bizarre category and i think you have to love ciao for coming up with it! Well, really what if Belgium had made it into the world cup? I like the way that it is asked as though it truly is the craziest idea in the world. Belgium seems to be the butt of all European jokes. They had an actimel advert at one point claiming it may make you do crazy things that you wouldn't normally do- like go to Belgium!
I moved to Belgium almost three years ago and it actually a great place (you can look at my review on Antwerp for more evidence of this!). Ok so it rains a lot and the countryside is ugly BUT there are many positive things to be said. Great for fashion (think Dries Van Noten), great for art (Reubens) and really beautiful and interesting cities (Antwerp, Brugge, Ypres, Brussels). Belgium is accused of having no history...
