Review of General: Yugoslavia

A VERY BAD CHOICE UNLESS FOR LOCATION

Advantages: centrally located, good A/C system
Disadvantages: ageing, horrible and tasteless decoration, rude staff, very small rooms/bathrooms

...it's not an easy task to describe the HOTEL PRAG. the buiding in itself is a very nice example of 1930's modernism, but what's inside seems to be stuck and deeply asleep in the mid 1970's. it definitely seems that nobody did anything at all in the hotel after that period. 70's furniture in dark brown often accompanied by awfully tasteless pig-pink details and 70's wall decoration. no further refurbishment made thereafter. small beds, especially short (strangely enough, considering the size of the tall serbs!). micro-bathrooms with awful orange colored WC. very small singles and ridiculously small twins (not even a place to store 2 suitcases!). the only good thing anyway is the hotel location, halfway, uphill between train and bus station and city center; also to be appreciated the perfectly working A/C system, in a hot belgrade june...

A Not so Typical Yugoslav Childhood

Kal - Self-titled album - The Coolest Band Ever

Advantages: A sublime fusion of roots and more modern music
Disadvantages: Not as good as some contemporaries

...This is the self-named album Kal by Kal! Kal are a Serbian band from the small village of Valjevo but are now based in Belgrade, they fuse traditional roma music with a very slight amount of pop/crooning, they are one of very few Serbian artists that still play Balkan music in the traditional sense as Serbian music is these days liittered with keyboards in general. Kal (Romani for black) were once described by a BBC journalist in Leicester as "the coolest band in the world", whilst nothing from someone from Leicester should be taken to seriously (they still think Gary Lineker is cool), he's almost spot on in this case. Kal dress in black suits and hats which instantaneously gives them a mafia look, this image is quickly broken though as they're jolly outlook on life woos the crowd where ever they are quite quickly. ...I recently flew from Tivat to Belgrade with Montenegro Airlines. The flight was very short (about 40 minutes), and unspectatular however I was impressed by the service. The flight attendants were helpful when called upon and the flight left and arrived on time. My only complaint would be that booking on their website seems to be impossible with this airline, which is slightly inconvienient. I emailed an address found on the website some weeks before my journey to obtain a price, but i never got a reply! I then emailed again to another address found on the site and to thier credit it was anwsered this time within 15 minutes. However, i ended up booking the fight on opodo, as it was coming up slightly cheaper on thier so i'm not sure how Montenegro Airlines themselves handle bookings Overall i was happy with the service and would use...

KEY ARTICLES: The first main article is The Best Shirt In The World, which is made by New York, based Brooke Brothers, who have just opened a shop in London (Lion Plaza, near Liverpool Street station). The article discusses Brooke Bros history (founded in 1818 by Henry Brooks), their pedigree (Presidents Nixon, Clinton and Bush are all patrons) and the opening of the shop in London. It does not, however, tell me why I should buy their shirts rather than a Paul Smith or John Rocha. The next key article is entitled "A Matter Of Life And Death" and tells us of Red Star Belgrade's firm, The Heroes. This article is superb, and in my opinion it is worth the cover price of the magazine. The writer, Ben Anderson, has spent a considerable amount of time with these hooligans in the run up to the local derby...

...After a week more or less of Eurovision Song Contest 2008 that was made in Belgrade, Serbia in two semifinals and a final when Russia won with more or 200 point and the second was Greece,, and the last was UK with and interesting song that it seems as the seventies ending music a Disco probably with clasical themes in the Eurovision Song, For me this song is better that the Spain's song that was a song in a reggaetton form (that is sounded in Latin America). At the end For me Greece was one of the favourite song.
