...I bought this hub as an impulse purchase but based my decision on: (a) you can never have enough usb ports (b) belkin are a respected manufacturer (c) I liked the design It cost me £12 when I bought it but I think that was the stores mistake as I have seen it advertised at between £19 and £24. Even at that price though this is a good piece of kit. Bearing in mind you can get USB 2 hubs for about half the piece of this one made by companies you may have never heard of, the design and features on this device make it a very attractive and useful addition to your desktop. It has seven USB ports; five on the back and two placed nattily and very usefully on the top. The top ones are what make this great in my view. ...a 7 port version, though this costs more. You can even connect these into each other giving anything up to a maximum of 127 devices per port! Now that would be a lot of wires! This hub is USB 1.1, operating at an impressive 12Mbps, though if you really need faster than this, Belkin also do a USB 2.0 version for a little more of your money which runs at 480Mbps. ...Im not an expert on USB hubs, so il just try to give a a good review based on my experiences of the product. I hope its helpful. Well, what can i say appart from "its a usb hub"!. It sits under my monitor and does everything i want it to to. The hub is plug and play, so no installation needed. It does need its own power outlet, and the adaptor is fairly large. It has a pleasant appearance, and the display consists of a red LED indicating power, and a green LED for each device connected. There are 5 USB 2.0 sockets on the back and 2 on the top. I've found that the rear sockets are best for permanent connections (keyboards, mice etc) and the top 2 are useful for small devices such as Digital cameras and especially USB flash drives. ...When setting up a network in my house I wanted to share everything over a LAN and also split the broadband between the network. The initial problem I had was that the broadband connection to the hub has to be an Ethernet cable. This is not too much of a problem if you are using ntl broadband. If you are using bt broadband the modem comes with only a USB connection which you cannot change. Therefore the broadband could not be easily shared using the hub like I thought. The hub itself although quite stylish was large and oddly shaped and hard to accommodate in an already cluttered environment. It was however shape do that it could be attached to other belkin products in a quite nice and interesting way. ...to connect to it? ----------------------------------------------------------------- My laptop uses the Belkin PCMCIA wifi card - connects no problem. The PC upstairs uses a Belkin USB wifi adapter - connects no problems My Apple iMac uses Airport extreme and connects no problems My Apple Mac Mini uses a Belkin USB wifi adapter - this can cause some problems and needs to be pulled out and reinserted after starting the computer for it to be recognised. No big deal - I just keep the computer on 24/7! Xbox - connects via ethernet - no problems at all Nintendo DS lite - connects via wifi, no problems whatsoever - can even connect whilst i lying in bed so I can play people all over the world - much to the annoyance of my wife! The product comes complete with a power brick,USB cable and a set of instructions. Adding this to your system couldnot be simpler. Plug one lead into PC USB port,the other end into hub. .... This is ideal for external CD-Writers and hard drives etc. ----=What Does The Hub Do?=---- What do you do when you have used all of your USB ports on your computer? Cry? No! You get a Belkin 4 port hub. It basically plugs in to one of your existing ports and allows you to then plug a further 3 extra devices in. No installation is required; it is a straight plug n play job. You can "daisy chain" these devices to connect up to 127 USB peripherals to each socket on your PC.
