Great Multimedia Wireless Router from Belkin

Advantages: Reliable, Fast, Easy to configure, Lots of features, USB for sharing drives

...INTRO The Belkin N+ router is one of the higher end (consumer) wireless modem router offerings from Belkin. It cost me £85 from PC World, but can probably be found for a bit less if you shop online. The Cable version costs a little less. Reason I bought this one was because two PCs in the house with wireless cards kept losing the wireless connection when I was using a Linksys router (my own PCs / laptops were fine though!). ...; from the photos I'd seen of it, I'd always assumed it to be small (I should have really looked and found out the dimensions but I was so desperate to get it ordered as there was only one left in stock that I never bothered) but it's no problem really, just a surprise and I thought I should mention it to you as you may also be considering it and thinking it's a really small router. This router comes in both cable and ADSL versions so anybody on any of the normal ISPs should be fine to use one of them, dependant on what internet they are being provided, ours is a cable one. .... There are a few admissions here and there and some of the routers more exotic features are, in my opinion, worthy of more detailed explanations. At least it has not been written in chinglish. Features I have not used the complete set of features this router provides, so I will comment on the ones I have. Firewall with SPI This should take care of intrusions from the internet, from which I ran a check to see if the most common ports on the router were "stealthed" (I.E. did not respond when contacted) and they were. On some other routers I have found ports (like the ones used by Telnet and Finger) to be open by default. Not exactly what you want considering there are over 65,000 of them!! Netgear DG834PN Wireless ADSL Modem Router

...The Netgear DG834PN is the latest version of the DG834 and combines an ADSL modem with a wireless router and 4 port switch. In plain English, this plugs in your phone socket and allows one or more PCs to share the connection via either a wired or wireless link. The modem part is ADSL2+ ready and should work with even the fastest ISP offerings out there which as at Dec 2006 are around 12mbps in the UK. The setup wizard worked flawlessly and apart from the username and password, worked everything else out for itself and had the DG834PN up and running in a couple of minutes. What a Beltin' Belkin Router!!

Advantages: Great wireless range, Futureproof, Nice looking, Fast!
Disadvantages: Some may say it looks a little chunky

...of forwarding all the correct ports and making sure all aspects of the setup are working. The Wireless range of the Belkin surprised me - I was 3 houses down the road from mine with my laptop at a friend's house, and as soon as Windows booted up the laptop got a 'Good' strength signal from the router! This is quite worrying, mainly due to the fact my old DLink router would freak out if you went more than 15-20 feet away from it. Signals would drop out, packets would get lost and Web pages would half load. Setting up the ADSL connection is also very easy with the Belkin router. Simply plug the router in, turn it on, connect your PC to it and tap 192.168.2.1 in to Internet Explorer to bring up the first Setup page. And, err, that's all there is to it. The router's ability to connect to ADSL-2 when the service goes mainstream is also a big plus...

Belkin Wireless LAN I Love You

My other half found it easy to install and get working on our main computer which is upstairs. ...I bought this router as my old one was USB connections only. The price was fairly reasonable from Curry's (£58) and the salesperson gave me enough advice to feel able to set it up on my own! It comes with an installation CD which explains the process in plain english, however, the manual on the CD re-routed me a lot when I found problems after initially installing it onto my laptop. It installed but wasnt picking up my IP address. I called the Belkin helpcentre (which is a lo-call number), and they were very helpful, they found my IP address and directed me to an 'online' page which houses all of my info about the router. Here, I can change my security settings or test my internet connection amongst other things, and I dont have to be online to do so. I've had no problems with it at all since.
