...I recently bought a Belkin wireless adaptor when I went into a house share and needed to have the internet. I use the internet but I know little about the technical side of things. I paid £19.99 for the adaptor in PC world who only had Belkin at the time which I thought was not expensive. However installing it was a nightmare. The 3 easy steps on the box seemed so easy; Install the software, plug the adaptor into a USB PORT - start networking! If only it was that simple. Every time my computer searched for a network it crashed. I phoned the Belkin company who took me step by step through the technical part and still we could not get internet. Eventually the Belkin assistant told my for some reason my computer was not recognising the new network. Being increasingly frustrated I considered taking the adaptor back for a refund... ...I bought this USB network adaptor for my son when he still had his Windows 98 machine as the PCI card that I reviewed previously was too advanced for his hardware. This product comes with the USB which is helpful for those who want older computers to become wireless. ~~~How many computers can be connected to the wireless connections?~~~ As many as you like, that's the beauty of it. You only have to have one internet provider e.g. Tiscali and one internet plug and suddenly you can have three or four computers connected. Personally I only have a laptop and a desktop connected but that means two of us can be on the internet at the same time so half the arguments! ~~~What's the difference between this and other Belkin wireless routers?~~~ This one is much faster allowing quicker internet than the wireless B version and is supposed to be 33% faster than other internet broadband connections according to the packaging. ...bought himself a Wireless Laptop and had managed to pick up the neighbours Wireless Internet, this got me thinking. Not only could I make my very old second hand PC into a Wireless one, I could also connect it to someone else's Wireless Internet Connection and not pay a penny, providing I wasn't picking up a Secured one. ...I always do my research before making an electronic purchase, have a look on the internet to see what products are availble, compare them against each other and then have a look at the price. If its not in my price range, i discard it! In the end, I went with teh Belkin, mainly because I know that Belkin do quality networking products. I already had a modem router at home, but i have three laptops that i needed to connect, and i don't like being bounded by wires (simply because that means everyone ends up in my room!) so i decided to invest in this. Already an advantage, this product came with a free USB wireless adapter! Firstly, the difference between wireless G and wireless B (802.11g or 802.11b) is that G is faster than B, by about 5 times (although this is the maximum). ...This little wireless adapter is designed to plug right into laptop of pc’s usb ports so that it enables them to be wireless and therefore can pick up a signal from a network. This can plug into your pc or laptop 2 different ways, firstly it can plug in much like a usb memory stick and just the stick itself can go straight into a usb port on your laptop or pc. The second way is to plug the holder into the pc of laptops usb port, this holder conveniently holds the wireless stick in place and has a wire leading out which can plug into the usb ports. This lead can go about a meter so is handy if you need to position it somewhere else on your desktop, also it looks quite good in its little holster and doesn’t look out of place. Having bourne the above details in mind, how does this particular shape up? SET UP The Belkin is easily wired up to your PC. Tip use the ethernet connection ( Cable) to perform the initial set up, even if you only use the wireless facility later. CONSTRUCTION This machine is fairly sturdy, it has a good sold case with an antenna at each end.
