... BELLA ITALIA Formerly known as Bella Pasta My first visit to a Bella Italia was a couple of weeks after returning from a holiday at Lake Como. My 10 year old son was very impressed that he could use his newly aquired snatches of Italian as the waitress greeted us in Italian, he spent the meal throwing in what few words and phrases he had picked up in Italy!! The restaurant we visited was in Lancaster, our home town, and at that time I didn't realise that it was part of a chain. I must say that we enjoyed our meal and found the prices reasonable, consequently we have returned several times since. It is on all of these visits that I base this review. Advantages: Lots of info, advice, tips. Easy to read.

...Now, before all the men out there move onto the next review, remember that it is a well known fact that you love reading ' women's' magazines. Forget FHM, Loaded and the rest. If a copy of Bella, Woman, Chat etc is lying on a coffee table, my husband will always pick it up and have a good read. Having said all that , it's not often that I read them myself ! The Bella Side of the Mafia

Advantages: As far as mafia films go - quite enjoyable
Disadvantages: Story quite far-fetched in parts

I've seen it a couple of times and, personally, enjoyed it on both occasions. Advantages: lovely staff, many facilities, spacious rooms

The Bella of the Ball (Now called Bella Italia)

Disadvantages: not suitable if you don't like chains

...My husband regularly goes out for lunch with his Mum (?Mum and Son? days as they are known) and although they talk about new and exciting places, they always seem to end up at the area about 2 minutes drive away called ?Centre 27?. There are about 10 restaurants altogether in this area, and yet every time they go, they end up in Bella Pasta. Calling him a boring git the last time he did it, he explained that they think about going to other places, but end up at BP as it?s reasonably priced, near to home, always pretty empty, good car parking and most importantly the food is always nice. Last Bank Holiday, Ian wanted to treat me to a meal somewhere, despite me being on a diet, so he suggested going there. La Bella Vista

Advantages: Beautifully textured, warm solo piano from a unique and incomparable artist
Disadvantages: It lasts but 40 minutes... I could easily listen to another 40 more!

...Bella Pasta have a chain of restaurants across the country, 63 at the last count and still growing! They would fall into the same category as Pizza Hut and Pizza Express with regards to prices, they aren't exactly cheap but won't break the bank either. Me and my partner have visited the Bath chain on a couple of occasions and have enjoyed our meals there immensely. Being a chain restaurant, I wouldn't be able to say that every single outlet is of the same quality but I would be happy to try out other outlets when I am in another area. Heres a little more detail on the Bath chain ; You can turn up without having to book but at busy periods it is very advisable to pre-book as me and my partner found on our first visit, there is a lounging area where you can wait until a table becomes available. Advantages: It's brave and a good introduction to Erasure

...The new album by Erasure 'Union Street'(their 14th!) is a bit of an enigma, which makes me wonder if the duo have finally run out of ideas, or didn't want to waste them on us. However for the uninitiated this acoustic (yes pop-pickers you heard me correctly 'ACOUSTIC') album strips down the songs to their bare bones and lets out some of the soul as a sample of what they are capable of. Just as the band had recaptured some of the form of its 90s heyday with Erasure's return to electro pop heaven, ('Nightbird') Vince Clark and Andy Bell have gone all acoustic on us, just as the Pet Shop Boys recently did, before going back to their synths.
