They met in school and several years later after many unsuccessful and unenjoyed jobs they both attended a $5.00 course in ice cream making and after investing $12,000 they then opened their first 'scoop shop' in a gas station in Burlington, Vermont in 1978. It didn't take long for them to become very popular. Ben had no sense of taste so he relied on what he called 'mouth feel', and big chunks of all sorts of ingredients, especially chocolate became their signature, and it is still is to this day. In 1979 they began selling pints of ice cream out of the side of a VW camper van, they continued to grow and improve throughout the years and have now stand as one of the favourite brands...

...Anyone who shops at Morrisons at the moment will notice they currently have 500ml tubs of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream on offer at £1.90 a tub! I always treat myself to Ben & Jerry's when I see it on offer anywhere, as it is my favourite ice cream, but at full price it is quite expensive. Ben & Jerry's were founded in 1978, after old schoolfriends Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield completes a $5 correspondence course in ice cream making and opened their first ice-cream shop in an old gas station in Vermont! Sadly they were not so good at book-keeping as they were making ice cream, and were not making any money. The shop closed after only a couple of months, but they were back a year later after learning more about the financial side of things, and began selling ice cream out of Ben's camper van. No Ice Cream? Then Lick A Hippie!

Advantages: good quality vanilla ice cream and white chocolate shapes, raising awareness about climate change
Disadvantages: essentially an upmarket plain ice cream with nice white chocolate, bit sickly

Move over Häagen-Dazs, the ex-hippie creators and namesakes of this deliciously witty and environmentally conscious ice cream brand are the new men in our lives... or freezer, rather (without sounding too horror-cliché). With flavours such as Cherry Garcia (homage to Grateful Dead's Jerry) and Bohemian Raspberry (chortle chortle!), they don't seem to take themselves too seriously - and fans across the world think they taste divine! Cookies and Ice Cream

Advantages: Great taste,lots of cookie dough and chocolate throughout
Disadvantages: Fairly Expensive

...I love Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream, it's the ultimate treat,so I used the latest half price offer at Tesco to stock up on my absolute favourite flavour, Cookie Dough. This was at £2 a tub rather than the usual price of £4 a tub. Now, at these prices it is definitely a now-and-then treat for me rather than a must have on my weekly shopping list. I'm not a fan of chocolate ice cream, which tends to restrict what Ben & Jerry ice creams are available to me. Their famous flavours such as Phish Food and Chocolate Fudge Brownie contain Chocolate ice cream. Cookie Dough is vanilla ice cream with chunks of chocolate and, as you would expect, cookie dough. ...When I saw the product of the week was a new Ben and Jerry's ice cream I knew it was perfect for my very first product of the week review! I have always loved Ben and Jerry's delicious flavours of ice cream and think I must have tried them all by now, so when I saw they had brought out a new flavour I headed to the shops. I found this new Bohemian Raspberry flavour in my local tesco. A bit of history... Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield opened their very first ice cream store back in 1978 in Burlington, Vermont, after a series of unsuccessful jobs and Jerry's failed attepmts at medical school. Ben and Jerry's Is Not Suitable For Children, Hide It!

...It was 1986 when Ben and Jerry?s first came up with the idea of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream. It really was a brainwave. It took them another five years to perfect it and it first became available to the public in 1991. (Now how?s that for the perfect job: Ben and Jerry?s ice cream tester?) So as my answer to that particular challenge question is ?the homemade variety? I was quite pleased when browsing through the recipe section of the bookshop I came across a Ben and Jerry?s recipe book. Fantastic, so for the princely sum of £7.99 the shop let me take it home, and 12 months later I finally got around to trying out some of the recipes and to writing a review. The book is a good size for browsing it?s a small to medium size paperback book, so none of the struggling to fit it on the shelf, or the kitchen work top when you?re trying to use it, and as you can see from the picture at the top, it?s very brightly covered...

...Wahey, welcome to my 100th Ciao opinion! 6 months and still going strong! I've been a little bit down recently. Loads of work, no girlfriend etc (Sarah01, knows all aboout this). It's been a hard few weeks for me, as I start my GCSE's soon (I'm meant to be revising really!). So as a break I went down to my local Tesco (look, it was near), to go and get some food and stuff my face later on in the day to cheer me up. What did I buy?
