Super-low cost back-up
Review of BenQ CDR 80min 700MB 48x by  mmpr

Advantages: Excellent Value - Good all-round disc
Disadvantages: Clumsy packaging

...First things first. Let's see what the manufacturers have to say about the product: Manufacturer's Description This exceptionally adaptable CD-R will operate at all writing speeds between 1x and 48x, ensuring the most suitable speed for the chosen application. The BenQ 48x CD-R 80 minutes is designed to ensure extremely low error rates. BLER is less than 50 and Jitters less than 35. What's more, it has an estimated life of 100 years, safeguarding your data for a lifetime. These media can be played back on all CD-ROM, CD-R/RW, DVD-ROM, and CD/VCD/DVD players. So there you go, you, can't go wrong! I have used two CD-R media discs with my XP machine for data, photos and music and have been perfectly happy with both. For me both the Benq discs and the Infiniti ones have produced fast copies of information (up to 48x - as stated... Read review

Get a huge stack of 100 CD-Rs cheaply!
Review of BenQ CD-R 700 MB 48x by  blue.summer.sky

Advantages: Cheap and no problems so far.
Disadvantages: Like any cd, you have to check they are ageing ok.

...I've been using BenQ CD-R's for getting on for a year I think and haven't had any trouble with them yet. PRICE Check out Amazon.co.uk for this 100 shrink-wrapped pack for just £10.99! The prices seem to have been slashed by about 50% in the last month or so. (Note that they're just shrink-wrapped though - no spindle I think). THE SPECS = The technical info over on Amazon says that they have an estimated life of 100 years and some jargon about "BLER is less than 50 and Jitters less than 35" (which basically equates to fairly standard to good error levels). They're 700 MB (80 mins) CD's and rated at 52x for writing speed. MY COMMENTS = So, for the time I've had these, none of them have failed to write ok (that's getting on for 100 CD's now) and I haven't had problems with them going bad yet. I'm only... Read review

ThankQ BenQ!
Review of BenQ CD-R 700 MB 48x by  bad_bob00

Advantages: Very cheap, very reliable, you probably wont run out for a long time!
Disadvantages: Can get damaged quite easily, no CD-cases to protect them

...Intro Recordable and re-writable CD's are one of the most popular forms of storage nowadays for computers, and this is no doubt down to the inevitable gradual-distinction of floppy disks, and the slump in prices for CDs. Nobody seems to use floppy disks anymore, they are too unreliable and can hardly fit any data too (1.44 MB usually) and when you compare this to the 700MB or so that CD's can hold, you can see why these are more popular. CD's can last over a hundred years too (according to the BenQ website) - if they are kept in the perfect conditions. Where I got them & price I decided to purchase these BenQ CD-R's as I felt that 100disks which hold 700MB, for only £10, is a really good price. This works out at about 10p per CD, which isn't bad at all! It sounds ridiculous that you can pay a couple of quid for a few floppy disks... Read review

It's only storage
Review of Sony CD-R 700 MB 48x by  Kingseany

Advantages: Cheap enough, Sony Brand
Disadvantages: Unreliable on some writers

...As well as using Verbatim CDR disks, which I reviewed recently, I've also been using Sony. Th specific product is 10CDQ8ON, which is a box of 10 700Mb, 48x CDR disks. As usual, they come in a cardboard box, and each one has a full sized CD-jewel case to protect the CDR inside. Each case is shrink-wrapped in plastic, to prevent scratching of the case, and dust from getting into the product. As with most shrink wrapped products, a quick entry system is included, which generally allows you to get into the contents quickly enough. The cases are good quality clear plastic, including the inlay. The front cover of each disk is a green colour, with the Sony logo, and CD-r in large letters, as well as siez 700Mb / 80Min. The reverse of this is a white are to write the title of the disk, date etc. The front also has a small circular cut... Read review

Imation blank CDR's
Review of Imation Corp. CD-R 700 MB 48x by  Paradis

Advantages: Their cheapness
Disadvantages: None I have found

.... These discs are for one-time recording only, but you can get the re-writable discs too. They are certified to handle recording at up to 48x speeds, for use with a Windows PC or Apple Macintosh computer that has a CDR or CDRW drive installed. They store 700 mb of data and are excellent for those text files, photos and mp3's, with 80 minutes of storage to a disc. Why would you want to buy a branded name at a much higher cost to yourself, when these are excellent value for money and are just as reliable? Also they offer a lifetime warranty on them, offering to replace any that are faulty. But I have never had to test that yet. I hope I don't need to. All the time they keep making these nice little discs, I will stick with them, and continue to pass the word around to friends about them. Imation make a full range of recordable and rewritable CD... What's the difference????
Review of Imation Corp. CD-R 700 MB 48x by  tarara

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: none I've found

...This will be short as there's not a great deal to be said about blank CDs is there? I bought a pack of 50 imation CD-R discs from Argos for £13.99. I normally buy a branded disc but these were out of stock so I thought I would give these cheapie ones a go. A pack of 50 Phillips CD-Rs cost £19.99 and a pack of 25 Phillips CD-Rs is £12.99 from Argos so this is a big saving! So whats the difference? None as I can see! All come in a spindle pack, All hold upto 700MB/80 mins of data All are 48x All can be used to copy music, data, photos or video All are basically just blank discs! I can tell no difference at all in the quality of the music or photos I have so far put onto these discs compared to the usual far more expensive ones I normally buy! The only difference as far as I can tell is that there is no brand name splashed all over... Read review

BenQ
Review of BenQ CD-R 700 MB 32x by  JaYmEZ

Advantages: Cheap and reliable
Disadvantages: None so far.

...After seeing other reviews of these CD's, of which I had not previously heard of, but as they were going at a cheap price on Amazon I thought I might as well give them a go. So first of all, the site: http://www.benq.co.uk/Products/Media/index.cfm?product=137 These are the 700megs ( or 80 mins of audio ) write once cd's ( CD-R ) These are not specifically aimed at a particular usage, and I haven’t used them for just one use, but mainly for quick backing up / moving data, as well as audio cd's cant say that I have used them for VCD's ( video cds ) as of yet, but if I do then ill add their performance on at a later date. So after around a years heavy usage of these little gems I can say that I have only had one write error on them, and that was my fault, thus causing the cd writing software to crash rendering the cd useless. ...( my... The spooky advertising worked on me
Review of Maxell CD-R 700 MB 48x by  Kingseany

Advantages: Cheap, reliable, brand name
Disadvantages: None so far

..., primarily to archive the huge amount of photographs sitting on the two hard disks inside the PC. The good thing about cakeboxes is that you don't have to peel off celephane wrappings off the disks to get to them - a boon when you are rushed to make a quick copy. In fact the packaging can be described as minimal, I like to think I'm helping the planet too. These are 700Mb disks, capable of writing at up to 48x speed. Whilst I have a 52x writer, 48x is absolutely fine. If you have a slower speed drive, you can still use these disks up to it's maximum recording speed. 700Mb should be enough to store several hundred photographs or other files (depending on their filesize obviously). If you are recording music for play on a non-MP3 player, you can store up to 80 minutes worth. The writable side of the disks are of the green dye variety. The top... Read review

What to write on a cd-r?
Review of Maxell CD-R 700 MB 48x by  Ollydv

Advantages: Cheap, Comes wrapped and with cases, and er... nice colour discs
Disadvantages: None really

...over' the information to use again. If you want to use discs multiple times then you need CD-RW discs which allow this. However, with CD-RW's, lots of older CD players, and lots of new ones don't support the playback of them, so that's why I find CD-R's better for audio CD's. Packaging… As you can see from the picture, the box that they come in is a red swirl on the left with a blue section on the right. It has Maxell written in large at the top and CD-R 80 XL-S 700mb in the middle of the box. At the bottom right is the top left corner of one of the discs, with a little box next to it saying 48x. Also on the box is a white/silver and blue water effect ripple thingy ma bobby. Cases… The cases of the CD's have lots of small writing on the front, it doesn't look very attractive but I guess they thing people will print their own covers out... Read review

No worse than the expensive ones.
Review of Imation Corp. CD-R 700 MB 48x by  gillenium1

Advantages: Very cheap
Disadvantages: cant find any

..., they are very efficient and very reliable unlike other cheap alternatives. I cannot see any difference between these discs and discs that cost up to 5 times as much such as Sony. The 48x speed means that you can create a good CD in just 4 minutes, there is 700mb capacity on the discs, or 80 mins if you are using it for a film. Since they are CD-R they cannot be overwritten so if you do back up data you cant overwrite it by mistake (phew) As with all CD’s you need to look after them, you should take time to organize and care for your media instead of just chucking it into the corner of your room or leaving it in a case. If you do this it will prolong the life of your media and will leave you time to do what you ever you want to do with the CD’s such as making music, sharing photos, or keeping your business data current. To write on Imation CD... Read review
