Citroen Berlingo 1.9D Multispace
Advantages: Versatile and Economical
Disadvantages: Limited load space
...I have been very pleased with my Berlingo Multispace. My daughter originally bought the vehicle in 2003 - she had three children at the time and needed a versatile MPV for driving them to and from school.
We researched several different makes and models before deciding on the Berlingo.
It is very easy to drive, the fuel consumption is very good (600 miles easily on a full tank), the five-speed gearbox keeps the rev counter quite low even at high speeds, and it is very comfortable even on long journeys.
There is excellent visibility all round - the shape of the vehicle lends itself favourably to this. The sliding side doors make access very easy even in tight parking spaces.
My daughter has since upgraded (increase in family size) and I have had the vehicle for the past two years.
Initially the main use was simply getting from A to...

Citroen Berlingo 1.6HDi Desire - a surprisingly good all rounder!
Advantages: Massive boot space, Frugal engine, Comfortable ride.
Disadvantages: Poor residuals, Engine noise, Styling
...Citroen Berlingo 1.6HDi Multispace
Performance
The 1.6HDi engine has been used in Citroens and Peugeots for over 10 years now, testament to it's popularity and reliability. It is smooth and responsive, if a little noisey and capable of providing adequate acceleration and overtaking ability. The o-62 mph time is a sluggish 15 seconds and the top speed is 93 mph. The 5 speed manual is precise and solid which build on a silky smooth ride comfort to give an overall relaxing driving experience.
Practicality
This is where the cars excels. Its cavernous boot space will swallow all your luggage, shopping or pets with ease. The optional Dog Gaurd which is fitted in my car is custom made for the Berlingo and is solid and secure. It is made of a fine metal mesh which only marginally reduces rear visibility. The Desire...

The Berlingo - it's a van but we love it!
Advantages: Lots of luggage space, very flexible, cheap to buy and run
Disadvantages: Hard jostly ride at time, rattles develop with age revealing its van roots!
...We bought our Berlingo as a family car but as my wife runs a small business from home we also needed our car to double as a van.
The Berlingo has the largest loading space of any comparable domestic vehicle and is great value for money. The diesel engine is powerful enough to still have acceleration even when fully laden but remains the most economical in the range.
The Berlingo boot space is immense and eats luggage - no more worries about what to take on holiday, you can take it all! With the seats folded down the Berlingo reveals its van roots and the sliding rear side doors are great for loading and unloading (also no need to worry about your kids winging the door open into other cars in a car par - a nice bonus!).
On the downside the Berlingo ride is hard at best and expect some rattles as it starts to get on in years...

Berlin-go -go- go- go!!
Advantages: Roomy cargo area and passenger area, good diesal engine, never let us down to date
Disadvantages: basic, everyday, not a lot else!
...We have had our citroen Berling van estate 1.9d for 1 and a half years, it has proven to be a very reliable vehicle.
VALUE
These vans are not very expensive new, roughly £10,000, but i am not sure.
Second, they are great, the Berlingo is a very good van for not a lot too much brass.
The one we own was seconda hand, and is a company vehicle, but i do know that the van was little over 2 years old when bought, and they paid rougly £5500 for it.
LOOKS
Well how nice can a van look?
the berlingo is fairly modern looking for a van, although i would't acclaim it to be a beauty!
Most are them are white, so simply looking.
But if you put it next to its rivals it does not look bad at all, for example the Daihatsu hi-jet van is not at all appealing to the eye.
COMFORT
not bad at all, it has very...

Multicoloured Multifuntional Multispace.
Advantages: Very spacious, Seats are higher than normal cars.
Disadvantages: Slow to get moving, Car sways around corners.
...We purchased this Citroen Berlingo Multispace 1.8i in 2000 straight off of the showroom floor.
The various factors that made us buy it is that the seating height allowed my elderly grandparents to easily get in and out of the vehicle as they were suffering from various joint problems and also as we did our shopping with them we needed the boot space to take two family's weekly shopping.
The boot space is very spacious as it is but combined with the double folding rear seats the space greatly increases (we actually loaded-up a childs playhouse with room to spare).
We have the full-length electric vinyl sunroof on our car and I can honestly say it's fantastic, when driving at speeds up to 45-50mph there is hardly any whistling noises. It's also great because the car can become very hot inside during sunny periods and as we only...

"Is the Pope in town?!"
Advantages: Sliding doors, lots of space, high driving position
Disadvantages: Visability when reversing, looks like a van!
...to more than glance at a Berlingo, you will have been struck by how much space this car has. To start with, there's the obvious places like the boot. It's huge! The Berlingo van on which the Multispace was based has two doors which open outwards where you would expect the boot to be. However, on the car, this has been changed to a lift up boot like on a regular car. However unlike a regular car, the Berlingo has a gigantic floor area measuring approximately 1.2m by 0.85m (4ft by nearly 3ft). From the floor to the ceiling is another 1.2m (4ft) although you can't fill the boot this high when you have passengers (without fear of knocking them out should you brake sharply!) When all five seats are being used as seats, there is a roll-up cover for the boot. Be warned though that this is flexible and you can't put things on it like you would...

A fab vehicle if you give it a chance
Advantages: Plenty of room, easy to drive and economical
Disadvantages: Rear windows open outwards rather than down
...Had this car so far for three years from new. Went into Citroen to look at a Picasso but it felt very claustophobic. My wife saw a Multispace in the showroom and suggested we have a look. I said I'm not driving a van, but, after a few minutes of nagging, agreed reluctantly to a test-drive.
The vision from inside is tremendous, on a posh car they'd call it panoramic. I was immediately taken by how surpisingly comfortable it was and easy to drive. Being a diesel, it's not as quiet as a petrol engine but I quite like the sound and even though diesel is more pricey, the fuel economy is good. Road tax is £145 for the CO2 emissions. Low insurance grouping as well. There's no alarm but it's not the sort of car thieves go for.
There are lots of nooks and crannys for storage and drop down tables in the back for the kids. If you have...

First family car UPDATED
Advantages: Loads of space, roof space, sliding doors
Disadvantages: none as yet
...Having had this car for nearly a year now we are still as happy with it as the day we bought it. Being our first proper family vehicle (previous being a Fiesta!) we were unsure what to look for other than space. I believe the Berlingo has it all.
Standing in the showroom the car that stood out was the Citroen Xsara Picasso, after bypassing the Berlingo and running straight to the shining Picasso, I thought we had our car. However after taking a second look at the poor Berlingo I could see a great car emerging.
- The boot space is second to none with a roller blind style flexible shelf. There is no problem slotting almost anything in the boot alone.
- Rear seats can all be folded and pushed back to provide the most amazing amount of space. A 3 seater sofa is one of the many things we have transported.
- Sliding rear doors. How did...
