There is a darts league that plays there, and this pub is know best for it's 5 pint pitchers of lager for £5. Have Thirst, Will Travel

Advantages: So many pubs and so little time left
Disadvantages: Big rounds. I do get as thunk as drinkle peep I am.

...last week, of gassed-up Irish cream bitters, nor any of that phoney "Come In For De Craich An' A Hundred Tousand Welcomes To Yers" that doesn't export well. Legendary Irish hospitality doesn't meld well with the more hostile 'are yoo lookin' at ma bird innit?' feel of some British pubs. Besides which, a real Irish pub doesn't need shamrocks and harps painted all over it to tell you it is. Another kiss of death when it comes to pubs is any mention of the dreaded words 'SKY' or 'SETANTA' writ large, probably associated with the words 'large screen TV'. Having said that, I also will not frequent any absolute dumps just because CAMRA says it's got the best beer in the area. If I wanted spit and sawdust, I could go to a wood yard and dribble. Pubs that let their interiors run to rack and ruin despite coining huge turnovers from beer sales...

Capital Pub guide!

The Cricketers Pub

Advantages: large garden, BBQ's held on Sunday, cheap drinks, friendly atmosphere
Disadvantages: A little out of town

...The Cricketers Pub is located in the village of River, just outside Dover. It is located right next door to Crabble Cricket, Football and Rugby Grounds. I like the Cricketers pub as it certainly has a village feel to it, and you tend to get a good crowd of people in here because it is not in the main town, and doesnt attract young drunks! The Pub The bar inside is fairly large with plenty of seating. There is a large plasma TV which shows various sporting events such as football, tennis and rugby games. There is a lower level to the bar area, and in here are a couple of gaming machines as well as pool tables. In one corner there is also a dart board. ...in the backroom. I remember being pissed off with Duskman one Valentine's day as he had bought me an Easter egg. I'm not able to comment on the prices or the range of drinks but as I said it is certainly a nice place for lunch. 3 Ape and Apple, John Dalton Street, Manchester Manchester was a good place to become a real ale aficionado due to a number of good local breweries. There was Hydes and JW Lees (I am a big fan of the very strong and treacly Moonraker which is a hefty 7.5% alcohol and best drank in half pints only) and Joseph Holts pubs. Again I have had to make a tough decision as I like a number of Holt's pubs. The Old Monkey on Portland Street is a fine place as is the Crown and Anchor near the cathedral. However I have plumped for the Ape and Apple on John Dalton Street. I like it as it is a proper pub with no gimmicks...

My 400th Review - And It's About A Pub!

...I decided that for my 400th Ciao review that I would write a review on my local Pub, The Sherwood in Sheffield. I have reviewed several Pubs during my days on Ciao and members with a good memory may even recall that I chose the subject of my "local" for my 300th review earlier this year. Moving house frequently however means that I have an ever-changing local Pub, although to be fair the Pub that I am reviewing here is one that I have frequented regularly over the years, long before I decided to live nearby. As a Child I grew up in this area and my Parents have always lived around here. I remember that we used to play on the wasteland that this Pub now stands and even recall the moment when this land of "ours" was fenced off and the bulldozers moved in. An Old English pub (The Plough Inn Country Pub and Dining Room)

Advantages: Beautiful gardens and great food.
Disadvantages: Expensive, not a lot of room in side

... THE PLOUGH INN GALGATE Inside the pub there are several small rooms - including a games room with pool, games and darts. It is all very traditional - no need for any 'distressed' decorating her, you are really in an old English pub. The only downside is that if you do eat inside, due to the size the tables are quite close together. The garden is of the Plough is really beautiful. The owner has spent a lot of time ( and money) landscaping it and there are water features, planters and decorative features everywhere - it is a really lovely place to stop on a summers day for a drink or a meal.
