Review of Bialetti MOKA EASY

Enjoying the taste of Starbucks anywhere

Advantages: Cheap, very easy to use, portable (ideal for camping)
Disadvantages: 1 cup version too small, a chore to clean, takes ages to boil

...Brief history Renato Bialetti, son of founder Alfonso Bialetti, is credited with being the man behind the Moka Express back in 1933. Story has it the Moka Expresso ?revolutionised? the way of making coffee at home thanks to a successful advertising campaign on Italian TV. The Group?s trademark is the ?Man with the moustache? picture that was developed by Paul Campani in the 1950s. The range of products is actually manufactured by Rondine Italia, a company that is famous for producing aluminium saucepans. Onka's Big Moka

Advantages: A great CD with brilliant songs
Disadvantages: More songs needed!

What the heck is an Onka...

Advantages: 11 out of 12 really good tracks, less rock more relaxing.
Disadvantages: Self-indulgent track 12

...Everyone who has not already done so should go out and buy a copy of this album. Not because it is an extremely good album, but because of it?s title. Every CD collection should have an album entitled ?Onka?s big Moka? nestled amongst it?s ranks. I?ve no idea who or what an Onka is, and as for a Moka, I?m not sure I even want to know! Still, it is such a cool title! Certainly beats such inspired creations such as ?Steptacular? and ?Britney?! So, it?s got a cool title, but is the album any good, well in a word, yes. I?m on a bit of a roll at the moment with album purchases. the last two albums I have bought have been absoutle crackers, I Should Coco by Supergrass and Songbird by Eva Cassidy. Toplaoder's great album

Advantages: Happy, sunny feel to the music
Disadvantages: Possibly a lack of lyrical depth

...Toploader are a British five-piece consisting of Rob Green (drums), Matt Knight (bass), Dan Hipgrave (guitar), Julian Deane (guitar) and Joseph Washbourn (vocals and piano). Onka's Big Moka was released in 2000, I think it was their debut alubm but I'm not sure. It is a light, summery mix of pop and light rock, with a few bluesy touches and that famous song, Dancing In The Moonlight. "Let the People Know" is a fine way to start the album, with a catchy chorus and upbeat tempo. "Dancing in the Moonlight" is the most famous song from the CD, and it's probably the best, with its anthemic chorus and happy lyrics. "Achilles Heel" is something different entirely. It is a slow, moving song about pain and love, with some gorgeous lyrics. "Breathe" returns to the uptempo nature of the first 2 tracks, with a tune that will be in...

Disadvantages: Youll like it or loathe it

...Toploader - Onka's Big Moka I still haven't been able to dechipher the meaning of the album (Or work out even if there is one!!) But whatever, despite the strange title this is a brilliant and imaginative debut album - on to go along with Badly Drawn Boy's - Hour of the Bewilderbeast. Bottomloader, more like

Advantages: Uplifting and happy, the pics in the cover are nice and Achilles Heel is v good
Disadvantages: Too uplifiting and happy, it's on the verge of cheesy pop and as for Joe's hair - need I say anymore?

...generation. Sure, they have guitars and stuff, but then so do poppy boy band A1. Also, lead singer Joe's voice, although being perfectly capable of the long and high notes, is perhaps TOO strong, if that is possible, by really trying too hard to sing, and it comes out of his mouth sounding fake and not really how it should sound. (Does that make sense? Didn't think so. Just carry on reading and pretend you understand. It's the best way to go.) A lot of the tracks on Onka's Big Moka don't sound like a simple five-piece band playing. Those nice people in the mixing studio have done plenty of tweaking of knobs (oh, behave yourself) and added a whole load of non-existent computer instruments, a normality in the manufactured-pop genre, but not in the guitar/drums style band. Joe (that guy again!) can be known to go a little OTT with his SFX...

Floating away

Advantages: An excellent album
Disadvantages: very few

...My first encounter with Toploader was at freshers week in Leeds University. They were supporting Cast but instead of supporting they far outshone! Unfortunatly the energy and enthusiasm of Toploader live does not carry quite as well throughg their album but don't let this put you off. The anthemic "Achillies Heel" stands out on the album along with the other singles that have been released. Onka's big Moka is an ideal album to put on and listen to in any situation but to see Toploader at their best, see them live!...
