...the hotel, only using them inside the city centre. The hotel is in a street parallel to a main road (Manzino) and there was little or no traffic noise. As you approach the hotel you will see a large HOTEL sign but the telling bit, ‘DANIELA’, is on the bottom and is partly obscured by trees so look carefully. The décor throughout the hotel was surprising tasteful, with deep and dark colours and lots of red around. I noticed that all of the wall paper was textured and actually quite nice (erm … I don’t usually look at or talk about wallpaper but what can I say – I noticed it. Does this mean anything?) and the walls are tastefully decorated with nice pictures on what I would call a Roman theme (a few cherubim here, a classical painting these and a bit of religious dogma for added measure). Review of Star Wars - Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace (DVD)

Look out for Big Red!!

Advantages: Solid Bond film
Disadvantages: Not as good as Dr No

..., and Daniela Bianchi is sexy as Bond Girl number 2, Tatiana Romanova. My Opinion Many consider this the best Bond film of all of them. I was not too sure about it. The performances are very good, and we are introduced to some scary villains in Red and Rosa, and the organisation S.P.E.C.T.R.E. raises its ugly and sinister head, but I rated Dr No higher than From Russia With Love. The direction and plot are okay, but I think Young did a better job in Dr No. The scenery is once again breathtaking, and the special effects, while limited and dated, are impressive. Perhaps it was the tale itself that I was not as enamoured with, but I was not hugely impressed by this Bond film. Conclusion A good film, but not great. Review of From Russia With Love (Ultimate Edition) (DVD)

Cold War Classic

Advantages: Sean Connery, good story,Daniela Bianchi
Disadvantages: A little dated now

...the right amount of cool authority in the role. Robert Shaw (as seen in Jaws and The Sting) plays the villainous Red Grant as a member of SPECTRE who is not only trying to kill Bond but also try to destabilise Russian relations with the West. Shaw as usual puts in a first rate performance. There is the obligatory Bond Girl in the shape of Daniela Bianchi who is a much better actress than many of the 2D girls who followed. She is really quite plausible and enchanting at the same time. Bianchi plays Tatiana Romanova a Russian spy who is double crossed by Shaw in the stealing of a decoder. The plot is well executed with many twists and turns along the way. The end is a little predictable but presented very well. The film also features the use of some exotic locations such as Venice and Istanbul which add to the overall nice look of the film...

Classic Bond

Advantages: Sean Connery, styllish and atmospheric
Disadvantages: Lacks the spectacle of later Bonds

...as a cultivated English gentleman - ordering Red Wine with fish. "You may know the right wines," comes Grant's chilling reply. "But you're the one on your knees." Old fashioned suspense, absent from later Bond films, is very much in evidence in From Russia With Love. Daniela Bianchi is endearing and beautiful as the female lead - light years above recent Bond actresses. And naturally Sean Connery is cool, unflappable, witty and every inch James Bond. I find it interesting that people often have a misconception about Connery being a relatively serious Bond - the series only turning to tongue in cheek escapades when Roger Moore took over. Advantages: Some great preservation work

For the movies director Andrea Bianchi, this movie is somewhat a masterpiece his career varied from gross out movies to hardcore pornography, here he manages a partial synergy by delivering a pretty gory thriller, with enough nudity and semi-clothed stars to keep his more hardcore adult movie fans happy. It seems that the director was trying to harness a new genre, and while other movies before and after have tried, this is one of the more illicit of the Italian sex thrillers. I mentioned earlier the sort of mish-mash of storytelling and style, for those familiar with the Italian movies Bianchi's work includes The Nights Of Terror AKA The Zombie Dead, Zombi 3; a movie that touches on the "It's so bad it's good" style, similar could be said about this offering.
