...What is it that makes these programmes so addictive? As if there aren?t enough places to shop already without having it blazoned across our TV screens. You have shopping centres, city centres, supermarkets, electrical outlets, warehouses, corner shops and of course online retailers to name a few. Bid Up is now Bid TV

...Bid TV is a lot of fun. I was talking to someone recently who told me that Bid TV and it's sister service, Price Drop were "not very good." How did he know this? It seemed that someone who he knew had read something in a newspaper. Or something, or other. He was very hazy on the details. And the more we talked, the clearer it became that he really was not talking from a position based on knowledge! Several weeks later I started watching Bid TV and Price Drop TV by accident when we had bought a Digital tuner for our TV set and had been flicking through the channels. The first thing I noticed was that the auction staff were very friendly and had obviously been chosen for their friendly natures and their ability to work under pressure and without a script and with no teleprompt device! ...I used to be an avid shopper at bid-up.tv because its so easy to buy and the bargains to be had seemed terrific. The principle is to auction off approximately eight lots per hour, sometimes more if it is a speed auction. An auctioneer describes the product, usually in glowing terms and great detail and a minimum bid is shown on the tv screen alongside a telephone number to ring to bid on the particular auction showing at the time. When you decide to bid and telephone the number you get through to an automated service which magically remembers your telephone number, enabling you to be called back if your bid is successful. This channel is on page 647 on Sky Digital. Basically, it's an auction site where you can bid for items via telephone. ...In my opinion, bid-up. TV has to be the best site on the web and TV. I have bid and won loads of gifts. Both on TV, and on the web. It is the easiest thing I have ever taken part in. The directions are made absolutely clear both on the phone and on the web. I have bought most of my Christmas gifts at bid-up. I have returned a curb necklace because I wanted a thick chain for my husband. And not understanding the gram weight, (7g) it was to thin and to light for him. I rang bid-up and explained the situation, and was offered a full refund with no questions asked. If you?re not entirely satisfied with any of you purchases, you can return them for a refund. Bid up the WEBSITE

Advantages: Some cheap products for very good prices
Disadvantages: EXPENSIVE delivery charges and corny presenters

...Well my family and me must have discovered this TV show and WEBSITE about a year ago we decided to treat our selves and bought a digital box. Then we discovered this channel AND WEBSITE and decided to buy a few more treats oops. We must have spent a 1000 pounds or more, we bought all sorts from clothes, games to ornaments. And boy did we pay the price my parents were addicted to the program and wouldn't stop buying things. My personal view on it is it's a rip off but you can by some stuff for good prices. They sell last year's unwanted stuff and must make so much money on the postage and phoning. ...The last reviews of bid-up.tv (now called bid tv) were very helpful but are now out of date, and had I been a member of Ciao then I would have written a very positive review. Unfortunately times have changed and so has this channel. Many people associate bid tv with auctions. The channel no longer does live rising price auctions. It now does falling price auctions, and if you've ever seen price-drop.tv, you'll know that it's exactly the same. They dont have a guide price anymore, (they were got rid of following the auctionworld fiasco) so they start with a price and and drop the price on that product. The idea is that when the price falls to an amount you would like to pay, you phone the £1.00 premium number press 1 and the product is yours.
