Advantages: an exellent film
Disadvantages: only a film to see once

...As you probably all know by now, Billy Elliot is the story of a young boy who joind a ballet class. Well, i'm just going to tell you a bit about the film, because too much information will spoil it if you decide to watch it. Billy Elliot (Jamie Bell) is an 11 year old boy who lives in Newcastle with his dad, older brother and grandmother. His mother died when he was younger. Billy's dad sends him to boxing class every week, whist at ine of his boxing lessons, Billy stumbles across a ballet class and starts to join in. He becomes good at it and every week instead of boxing he does ballet. His ballet teacher helps him to learn ballet and gets him an audition at the royal school of ballet. Advantages: Brilliant film and its British! Superb acting, superb soundtrack.
Disadvantages: NONE

...Good British films come in several forms. There is the East End "hard man" cockney gangster flick e.g. Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Circus, Gangster No.1, etc. Then we have the dopey and simple comedy that often stars Hugh Grant (Bridget Jones Diary, Four Weddings and a Funeral, any other Hugh Grant movie…) Lastly we come to the comedy/drama category set in working class Northern England. In this category we've seen the Full Monty, East is East and most recently Billy Elliot. When I first heard about Billy Elliot I was not particularly keen to see it - I mean, I am not exactly a fan of ballet. ...In 1976 I was listening to Billy Swan singing "I Just Want to Taste Your Wine" and enjoying a long, hot summer! At the time I bought the original LP (yes, vinyl!) - the one entitled "Billy Swan" with the grey border - and loved every track on it, which was pretty amazing because for me the odds of that are astronomical!! So when I saw this combination CD advertised I decided to indulge my nostalgia and buy it - and no, I was NOT disappointed with the other 10 tracks from the original LP entitled "Four". All together this CD provides a history of what I think is the best period of Billy Swan's career and it certainly takes you back to those lazy days of summer (when it really was hot all the time!).... ...'Bravemouth' is the sequel to the extremely popular 'Billy' also written by Pamela Stephenson. The first book detailed the life of the enigmatic comic and described his awful childhood where he faced abject poverty and abuse, both mental and physical from his family. 'Billy' was a fascinating read and captured the spirit of Billy Connolly by the only person that probably knows the real him, his wife. 'Bravemouth' is an extremely good follow up to 'Billy' as it describes a year in the life of Billy himself as he struggles to come to terms with his rapidly approachin 60th birthday. The reader is drawn into a world of international travel and high class comedy. We follow Billy as he takes part in blockbuster films, travels to Africa for Comic Relief and just comes to terms with his increasing years! This book is an extremely personal work... Read review

...This is one of the books that used to get read to me when i was a little girl. The Three Billy Goats Gruff is a great childrens book and it is a book that children like. This book is about three billy goats gruff (as you can tell by the title) who are in search of some sweet green grass. The three billy goats gruff find the grass they want in a meadow across a bridge which people are afraid to cross because of the troll that is underneath the bridge. The three billy goats gruff want to eat the sweet green grass so they cross the bridge starting from the little billy goat until the big billy goat. The Illustrations for this book is excellent the pictures on the pages help to tell the story if the child wants to try and read the books themselves. ...Billie’s second offering has not had the same quality of reviews as her debut, but I beg to differ. It is a more sexy, slower album than Because We Want To, but that was also two years ago, and a lot can happen to girl between 16 and 18, none more so than Billie’s. Day & Night is a fantastic song that goes along with the current trend in pop music of big beats and lots of dancing, a la Britney Spears, her American counterpart. Something Deep Inside, the second single, sets the pace for the album, being slightly more laid back but still as catchy as the opening track. The title track is very cool, and once again unforgettable. Other standout tracks include Run That By Me, Because Of You and Misfocusing. The Tide Is High, the Blondie cover, was perhaps not a wise choice for Billie. The album is more mature and extremely different from... Read review

...Although Billy Liar is called a comedy, there are parts about it which are from comic Billy Liar is widely regarded as a comedy yet behind it lies a far darker side. This “side” can be divided into three sections: death; human relations and half fulfilment of life. Billy Fisher is a boy who dreams of a better life but is not quite capable of gaining it. These dreams stem largely from the fact that he lacks intellectual stimulus and often lands him in trouble. A common excuse used by Billy to get him out of a bad situation is that a relative has had a limb off, although this appears humorous, it displays a rather morbid aspect to his character. ...It's rare for our family, which includes two teenagers, to sit and watch a movie together. We have all just finished watching Billy Elliot on video on a wet Sunday afternoon. We all thoroughly enjoyed the movie and found it moving and inspirational. The movie is set in the 1980's in the stark reality of a small mining community in County Durham. Life is hard there and the majority of the miners are out on strike forming picket lines outside the mines. We meet a family which includes Gary Lewis as a recently widowed Dad, his elder son who is also a striking miner, Gran who appears to be suffering from Alzheimers and younger son, Billy Elliot, aged 11. We first see Billy attending boxing classes for 50pence a week, he gets knocked out but appears drawn to the ballet classes which are taking place at the other end of hall. Billy secretly...
