Birmingham Britannia Hotel - Average
Advantages: central location, reasonable room size
Disadvantages: dated furniture, noisy generator, rubbish towels
...I stayed at this hotel for work purposes on Monday 3rd March in a single room on the sixth floor. We paid £70 B&B.
My initial reaction was to be extremely negative about this hotel, however, on reflection i think it is important to point out some of its good points. I would not say it was an enjoyable experience, however, it was adequate and i've had worse!
On the plus side -
This is a proper city centre hotel - right in the centre of town, close to shops. If you are visiting Birmingham to shop, this is perfect.
The kettle and toilet were clean, which is always a good start!
The member of staff who booked me in was pleasant and helpful. There was an error with our booking, we had 4 rooms booked, but only two of us were on the list. She gave me the list to check through - which had other guest's names and personal details...

DAYS INN - BIRMINGHAM WEST - £54.25 DOUBLE ENSUITE
Advantages: Cheap and cheerful, clean and tidy
Disadvantages: very basic, no frills, but at that price who wants them?
...We live in Devon and had tickets for a Runrig concert in Birmingham Symphony Hall. We live out in the country so going out into the big wide world can be quite scary you know what with all the guncrime and murder in the big cities!!!
We were a bit wary of staying in the centre of Birmingham mainly due to cost, so we looked for somewhere on the edge and found Days Inn in West Bromwich, Birmingham. It is just off junction 1 of the M5 which was great and easy to find. We then took a taxi into Birmingham later on. This cost £12 each way, but thats another story!
The hotel had underground parking which made us feel that the car was secure (no need to take the wheels in with us)!. The hotel is based on several floors of a large 10 storey building, with reception on the ground floor.
Our swipe card would not open the room door...

The Hotel Which Time Forgot
Advantages: Cheap, great location
Disadvantages: Thin walls, decor has seen better days
...I have stayed in hotels from time to time after a night out as it often works out as cheaper than getting a taxi home for me! This is what first brought me to stay at the Britannia, and I have stayed there a total of 4 times so far.

The Britannia boasts:

A Hentastic Hotel
Advantages: Good Value, Great Location, Good Service
Disadvantages: Very Busy at Breakfast
...A few months ago my friend told me she was going to Birmingham on her Hen night and asked if I would like to go along. As it sounded like ages in the future, I said fine, I would love to go and promptly forgot about it. So, last weekend when I got an e-mail reminding me that we were leaving at 10am on Saturday morning to maximise drinking time my first thoughts were urghh... Birmingham why? And, I wonder where we are staying? Well, she knew better than I did as she had been to Birmingham a few months before and stayed at the Days Inn and thought it would make a great base for our Hen celebrations and she was right.
Location
This Hotel is in The Mailbox complex, right in the centre of Birmingham. This is where the Birmingham branch of Harvey Nichols is situated and a whole host of other trendy shops not to mention the wine and cafe...

Ideal place to stay in Birmingham
Advantages: near shops, train station, everything walking distance, price
Disadvantages: dark room lit by lamps
...I booked the room on-line as you get discount off the room. I booked a single room for £42 which was usually £50.
The outside of the hotel makes it seem run down but inside the decoration is a traditional style. Best thing about this hotel is that its right in the centre of Birmingham, in between the shops and opposite the train station inside the Palisades. So if your going to staying Birmingham I would recommend this hotel over Travelodge on Broad Street at £66 which seems like a rip off.
The room offer modern facilities including TV, Telephone, Hairdryer, Trouser Press and Tea & Coffee making facilities. Its own restaurant and bar within the hotel. Room service. Staff are friendly and helpful. ng
Room is dark though its just lit with lamps which is quite annoying at time.
Bathroom was clean and had shower gel and soaps...

Botanical Birmingham
Advantages: Plenty to see, a relaxing escape from the city.
Disadvantages: Expensive for a one-off visit. Disappointing restaurant.
...Every city need its green spaces. The architecture may be spectacular and the shops fantastic, but finding a place to escape the traffic and bustle is a necessity for most city dwellers. Picture Birmingham and what do you see? The Bullring, New Street Station and Spaghetti Junction would be the first things that come to my mind. Although I've never lived in Birmingham itself, I worked there for several years. During that time I went to the Botanical Gardens regularly, but for the purposes of this review I will focus on my most recent visit which was August 2008.
A Brief History
Celebrity gardeners are not a new phenomenon. In the nineteenth century J.C Loudon was an influential writer on gardening and became part of London's high society. He designed the Birmingham Botanical Gardens in 1830 to provide a place where keen...

Best Hotel in Birmingham City
Advantages: Everything about this hotel
Disadvantages: Christmas time Parties
...The Thistle Birmingham City Hotel is situated a few miles away from Birmingham International Airport, easily accessible from the major motorway network and close to New Street Station. I stayed at the hotel for 8weeks on a business trip and really enjoyed my stay there.
The rooms are very clean, its well maintained. Staff very friendly and helpful. During Christmas time there are loads of parties and the in house guests have no flexibility in the food timings which was a major draw back. Food was very good and so is the bar always well stocked!
You can have a short walk for your shopping to the City centre, Bull Ring and the Convention Centre.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and would return again....

Rule Britannia!
Advantages: Cheap! Central Location.
Disadvantages: Soft Pillows, dirty bathroom.
...expensive. So, it was time for some shopping around?
Doing a load of searching and whatnot on Google, I stumbled upon this, the Britannia Hotel. Located down New Street, Birmingham, and at just £35 per night as the advanced fee ? it was a bargain.
Finding The Hotel
Being pretty poor at most sort of planning, I didn?t really take much note of exactly where the Hotel was, just that it was somewhere down New Street. So, it actually took us a bit of finding, but that was mainly due to us not knowing Birmingham at all. All I remember now, is it is next to Primark, so that?s that.
The Room
We had room 225, located right at the end of the maze-like corridor, on floor two. Opening the door, the room was pretty much how we expected it to be ? as basic as humanly possible. Two Beds, sat next to each other, with a tiny set of drawers to...

Radisson SAS, Birmingham
Advantages: Beautiful rooms, Great views, Fantastic food
Disadvantages: No pool
...Quite possibly one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in. From the moment we arrived the service was impeccable and could not be faulted, we really felt special.
The room was beautiful (NB: request a high floor room to get great views). I believe there are a few different themes to the rooms. Ours was fab. With designer Missoni wool cushions and coordinating blankets that I sooooo wanted to take home! Widescreen wall mounted TV, mini bar (dare you use it), ironing board, safe. Lots of wardrobe space.
We got a great deal on this as we bought a voucher via ebay which meant we got 2 nights for the price of one, with breakfast, plus champagne on arrival (after 5 hours stuck in the snow it was very much appreciated!)
Can also recommend the food. The buffet breakfast had everything you could ever wish for and was very tasty. Room...

Its a Paragon of no virtues...much like myself
Advantages: somewhere to sleep,
Disadvantages: lost my booking, twice
...Something of a departure for me in many ways is this one, after the semi disasterous year I enjoyed last year this 12 months of 2008 was marked down as clearing debts and enjoying myself time - how to achieve both being somewhat of an impossible balancing act. But the debts cleared up faster than expected so in early May I turned my head to the new target - having fun, lots of it.
One of the forum sites I am a relatively active member of has pretty regular meet ups, and after deciding it was funtime the next was due to occur in Birmingham at some point during July, so in keeping with the fun but keeping out of debt ethos I went off to find some decent hotel bargains which werent going to cost me a fortune in beer tokens for a taxi.
The cheapest - and one of the most central I was advised - is the Paragon Hotel on Alcester St, one...
