Is Jacques Bistro just brilliant?
Advantages: Fantastic food and great menu
Disadvantages: None
...On a recent visit to the theatre and a couple of birthdays within our group we decided to book a table for a meal prior to the show and decided that Bistro Jacques would be the place.
Bistro Jacques is a French restaurant which is situated on Hardman Street in Liverpool right in the heart of theatre land and some of our party had been there before and it came highly recommended. Arriving at the Bistro you may feel disappointed at the external appearance of the building, it looks like a couple of shops have been refurbished and knocked together to form the restaurant and has nothing fancy at all, in fact there are those metal shutters that pull down over shop windows for security once the restaurant is closed.
The main entrance looks more like a shop door but once inside you are greeted immediately, reservation checked and we...

Rick Stein's St. Petroc's Bistro
Advantages: Smart eating in friendly atmosphere
Disadvantages: Need to book well in advance and slow service
...Rick Steins St Petroc's Bistro - Cornwall
Rick Stein and Padstow in Cornwall are synonymous with one another. He has four restaurants in the small harbour town and is probably responsible for there being many other excellent places to eat there. At the top of the tree is Stein's flagship: The Seafood Restaurant. Opened in 1975 this restaurant is the heart of the Stein empire. Next up is St. Petroc's Bistro, more accessibly priced with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. He also has Rick Stein's Café and Stein's Fish and Chips. If you enjoy eating out in good restaurants, and are in Cornwall, a trip to Padstow is a must. In addition to the restaurants, Stein also has a well stocked gift shop / deli on the habourside.
St Petroc's Bistro is sited in an unpretentious building on New Street, a short walk from the harbour front. The white...

Godot's Bistro, Chingford
Advantages: Pleasant atmosphere
Disadvantages: Service was disappointing.
...were clean, but the Ladies' only had one, cramped cubicle.
I noted a couple of high chairs so presume they are obliging towards young customers also.
I noticed as we came in that they also do Jacket potatoes, omelettes and other small dishes at lunchtime.

Would I go back? Well, as a veggie, probably not for a while as I would not have anything else to eat, but generally the meal was good and I was not put off by the service.
I rated the menu standard as good to reflect the fact that non-veggies would have a good choice....

Bistro 1, No 1 for value
Advantages: bargain prices, good location, nice food
Disadvantages: portions might be small for some people, mix up with our order
...London is an expensive city and dining out on a budget can be hard. Luckily I have found (courtesy of a guide dedicated to cheap eats in London) a place where you can have a three course meal with wine for under £15. This place is Bistro 1 and it serves simple Mediterranean influenced food.
Bistro 1 is a mini chain with three branches. There are two in Soho and one in Covent Garden. The Covent Garden one is on Southampton Street just round the corner from Covent Garden Market and only a couple minutes stroll from Covent Garden tube station. It is quite a small restaurant with space for 80 diners so booking is advised. You can do this either by phone or online at their website.
We were off to the theatre in Drury Lane so my friend booked the table for three for 6:45. On arrival; she was already seated at a window table...

Bistro Boogie!
Advantages: Great for birthdays and hen nights, price includes dancing on the tables
Disadvantages: Relatively expensive food and drinks
...Some time ago I was invited on a friend's hen night. With a sense of fear at the inevitable embarrassment that lay ahead I accepted, and resigned myself to an evening of ugly strippers cheap booze & and drunk middle aged women. What we got was entirely different.......
Bistro L!ve advertises itself as "a unique new night-time entertainment venue probably best described as a Live music restaurant". The basic premise of the venue is that it offers a complete night out, where you can eat, drink and dance all under one roof. The night begins around 7:30 and ends at 1am (midnight at mid-week events). Generally the patrons tend to be in groups celebrating a special occasion such as a birthday, hen night or office night out. I understand that they do very well for Office Christmas Parties in particular. This didn't seem like the place you...

Bistro to amaze
Advantages: Cosy with great service and food
Disadvantages: Can be a bit cramped at times
...You'll find Bistro Lyonnaise on the Alcester Road heading south out of the city; you'll spot it on your right just past the Fighting Cocks pub in Moseley Village. Tucked away in the heart of Moseley the 'Bistro' is easily accessible by the ever-frequent 50 and 35 buses and the more random no.1. If you drive there you'll find a public car park further along the Alcester Rd opposite the Cross restaurant and bar or you could always try and squeeze it into one of the side streets nearby.
Here is the blurb straight from the Bistro’s own site on those good fellows who started it all:
Chef Ahmed Erroudani , from Lyons, is a classically trained French Gourmet Chef of some 15 years standing. Well-versed in the culinary arts, his skill and expertise will ensure an excellent meal every time.
Imogen Meeris , is a noted local artist...

Brighton's best bistro
Advantages: price, fabulous food
Disadvantages: none
...Our favourite restaurant in Brighton ! Bistro Vino has a friendly atmosphere, fabulous food and is outstanding value for money. Located in Preston Street, its a stone's throw (or should that be pebble's throw!) from the sea front, next to the main shopping street. The fayre is Italian, with fresh seafood a speciality, of course. But the special Menu of the day is a real bargain, and all the food is of the highest standard.
A charming bistro - perfect after a busy day on the beach or shopping.
And then, why not do as we do, and take a lesiurely stroll along the seafront to walk off a wonderful meal....

Bistro Stove - now you're cooking with gas!
Advantages: robust, solid, not expensive, reliable
Disadvantages: no good for backpacking - too large & heavy
...The Bistro 250 stove from Camping Gas is an excellent piece of equipment.
We bought one this year from Argos at just £26.99 which included a gas cartridge (these normally cost around £2.50 or £1.95 for a non genuine equivalent cartdridge.
The gas cartridge is easily fitted and can be removed between uses - an added safety feature.
It also has a clever mechanism which automatically ejects the cartridge (thereby extinguishing the stove) if the cartridge gets too hot - this can apparently occur if you use a pan which is too big, although ours is HUGE and we had no problem at all!
The power of this baby is a massive 2700W which compares to a measly 1100W from our old stove. It bols up our kettle of water in less than a couple of minutes and toasts bread on our camp toaster almost faster than we ca load it.
I recommend this...

A nice weekend away
Advantages: Comfortable and clean
Disadvantages: Had to get wet to get to the room
..., mainly because there is a jar of Jelly Belly jelly beans, which I scoffed straight away. But they are quite pricy at £4.50 per jar, but you do get a lot in there. There are also two flavours of crisps, cashew nuts, peanuts, chocolate raisins and a large selection of drinks ? both alcoholic and non. There is complimentary tea and coffee provided along with a selection of herbal teas and hot chocolate.
As I was on my own I didn?t fancy eating in the restaurant so on both nights I ordered room service. This can be ordered from the same menu that is available in the bistro so it is very extensive and lots of choice. It is an a la carte menu so all the dishes are individually priced and main courses are around £15.00 depending on what you have.
On both nights my food arrived promptly, however on one of the nights they had forgotten my side...
