Bistro to amaze
Review of Bistro Lyonnais by
mookiepunk
Advantages: Cosy with great service and food
Disadvantages: Can be a bit cramped at times
...in a red wine sauce, it is really tender and full of flavour. Puddings are in the same price range as the starters and you’ve just got to have the Tart au Citron, so zingy and fresh its making my mouth water just thinking about it.
We’ve been a few times and our valentine’s meal there was very special. The setting was very romantic and the staff very attentive but if you’re planning on going you must book up well in advance as something as good as this often fills up quickly.
So if you fancy something intimate and French try Bistro Lyonnaise after all at only £30-35 a head you can’t go wrong. Check out their website for contact details and most of all enjoy.

Bistro 1, No 1 for value
Review of Bistro 1, Covent Garden, London by
duskmaiden
Advantages: bargain prices, good location, nice food
Disadvantages: portions might be small for some people, mix up with our order
.... The décor seemed quite plain and understated and there are tables outside to sit and watch the world go by which would be lovely on a sunny summer day. I did find the tables quite packed together so there was not much room to move about. I am not sure if this would be good for a really intimate dinner as someone might easily overhear your sweet nothings. There was a bowl of tasty fresh seeded bread and yummy olives on the table ready for us to pick at before we settled down to eat proper.
The good thing about Bistro 1 is that there are no ala carte menus. The set dinner menu is £8.90 for two courses and £9.90 for three. If you are in the area for lunch the prices are even lower. You can get two courses for £6.50 and three for £7.50. This is a bargain when you consider you can spend £3 or £4 on a sandwich. (There is a £2 supplement for four...

Rick Stein's St. Petroc's Bistro
Review of St. Petroc's Bistro by
brereton66
Advantages: Smart eating in friendly atmosphere
Disadvantages: Need to book well in advance and slow service
...Rick Steins St Petroc's Bistro - Cornwall
Rick Stein and Padstow in Cornwall are synonymous with one another. He has four restaurants in the small harbour town and is probably responsible for there being many other excellent places to eat there. At the top of the tree is Stein's flagship: The Seafood Restaurant. Opened in 1975 this restaurant is the heart of the Stein empire. Next up is St. Petroc's Bistro, more accessibly priced with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. He also has Rick Stein's Café and Stein's Fish and Chips. If you enjoy eating out in good restaurants, and are in Cornwall, a trip to Padstow is a must. In addition to the restaurants, Stein also has a well stocked gift shop / deli on the habourside.
St Petroc's Bistro is sited in an unpretentious building on New Street, a short walk from the harbour front. The white...

Bistro Boogie!
Review of Bistro L!ve, Leicester by
richardsonjones
Advantages: Great for birthdays and hen nights, price includes dancing on the tables
Disadvantages: Relatively expensive food and drinks
...Some time ago I was invited on a friend's hen night. With a sense of fear at the inevitable embarrassment that lay ahead I accepted, and resigned myself to an evening of ugly strippers cheap booze & and drunk middle aged women. What we got was entirely different.......
Bistro L!ve advertises itself as "a unique new night-time entertainment venue probably best described as a Live music restaurant". The basic premise of the venue is that it offers a complete night out, where you can eat, drink and dance all under one roof. The night begins around 7:30 and ends at 1am (midnight at mid-week events). Generally the patrons tend to be in groups celebrating a special occasion such as a birthday, hen night or office night out. I understand that they do very well for Office Christmas Parties in particular. This didn't seem like the place you...

Brighton's best bistro
Review of Bistro Vino, Preston Street, Brighton by
maryjo
Advantages: price, fabulous food
Disadvantages: none
...Our favourite restaurant in Brighton ! Bistro Vino has a friendly atmosphere, fabulous food and is outstanding value for money. Located in Preston Street, its a stone's throw (or should that be pebble's throw!) from the sea front, next to the main shopping street. The fayre is Italian, with fresh seafood a speciality, of course. But the special Menu of the day is a real bargain, and all the food is of the highest standard.
A charming bistro - perfect after a busy day on the beach or shopping.
And then, why not do as we do, and take a lesiurely stroll along the seafront to walk off a wonderful meal....

Bistro Stove - now you're cooking with gas!
Review of CampingGas Bistro Stove by
djhendra
Advantages: robust, solid, not expensive, reliable
Disadvantages: no good for backpacking - too large & heavy
...The Bistro 250 stove from Camping Gas is an excellent piece of equipment.
We bought one this year from Argos at just £26.99 which included a gas cartridge (these normally cost around £2.50 or £1.95 for a non genuine equivalent cartdridge.
The gas cartridge is easily fitted and can be removed between uses - an added safety feature.
It also has a clever mechanism which automatically ejects the cartridge (thereby extinguishing the stove) if the cartridge gets too hot - this can apparently occur if you use a pan which is too big, although ours is HUGE and we had no problem at all!
The power of this baby is a massive 2700W which compares to a measly 1100W from our old stove. It bols up our kettle of water in less than a couple of minutes and toasts bread on our camp toaster almost faster than we ca load it.
I recommend...

Godot's Bistro, Chingford
Review of Godot's Bistro, Chingford, East London by
Essexgirl2006
Advantages: Pleasant atmosphere
Disadvantages: Service was disappointing.
...were clean, but the Ladies' only had one, cramped cubicle.
I noted a couple of high chairs so presume they are obliging towards young customers also.
I noticed as we came in that they also do Jacket potatoes, omelettes and other small dishes at lunchtime.
Godot's Bistro
139, Station Rd, London, E4 6AG
Tel: 020 8529 6235
Would I go back? Well, as a veggie, probably not for a while as I would not have anything else to eat, but generally the meal was good and I was not put off by the service.
I rated the menu standard as good to reflect the fact that non-veggies would have a good choice....

On the sunniest night of the year...
Review of Waterside Bistro, Edinburgh by
ShoppingGirl
Advantages: Awesome fresh food, great prices, idyllic waterside setting
Disadvantages: The midges!!!
...When you get to my age (32), the thought of celebrating your birthday with a monumental piss-up just doesn't have the same appeal as it used to. So I informed my boyfriend that this year, we would be marking the event with a lovely meal in a tranquil setting, instead of with cheap vodka in a filthy, smoky boozer.
I researched the options for out of town, alfresco sunshine dining and came up with the same advice time and time again - go to the Waterside Bistro! I had vague memories of going there as a kid and playing on the grass beside a river, but hadn't revisited as a grown up.
When I phoned to book a table, I was told that if I wanted to dine in the Bistro (as opposed to the infinitely posher and more expensive Restaurant) then no reservation was necessary unless my party was of six or more people. I was slightly anxious...

French Culture In Harrogate, Who'd Have Thought It
Review of Hotel du Vin and Bistro, Harrogate by
sghawken
Advantages: Great location, even greater wine cellar
Disadvantages: Breakfast was not quite to the standard I was expecting.
...more uniquely with the exception of the Glasgow addition at present it’s the furthest north of all the hotels. A search engine result for Hotel du Vin Harrogate will result in possibly the most pleasing results a hotel manger would require. The hotel a firm favourite of The Independant, Harpers & Queen, Times, as well as a variety of exclusive Yorkshire based publications.
The Hotel has 42 rooms, a popular bistro, two mid sized function rooms, courtyard area, gym, bar and lounge, as well as a cosy snug area with large pool table.
Upon arrival at this elegant Georgian property we were first taken aback by its location, close to the centre of the town it overlooks the beautiful area known as The Stray. The Stray is a large stretch of green space and parkland that dominates the town. The hotel itself initially eight Georgian houses has...

Good things come in small packages!
Review of Ferret Hall Bistro (Leeds) by
read123
Advantages: Friendly staff, fab food, great atmoshphere
Disadvantages: Small dining space so can feel crowded
...This definately is a great little find, located on a fairly busy road in headingley( student land in Leeds) suprisingly few people know of this bistro. I can't understand this really as it recieves many a good local review, this is how i came to first hear of it. I'm now a frequent visitor and hold this small eaterie in high regard as one of my favourites in Leeds. It is a modest looking place from the outside and would be easy to bypass without a second thought. It is very plain to look at and doesn't give a great first impression, but proves when you enter and dine here that looks can be deceiving! As you walk in you enter a small dining area, 30 seats max I would say and all relatively close together, however you must remember this is a bistro and thats is part of a bistros history. The name came about in France when space was hard...
