blackberry pearl 8120 on orange pay&go
Advantages: facebook, msn, blackberry email
Disadvantages: 2mp camera could be better
...i brought this from orange a few months ago on pay & go & have to admit it took a few hours to get used to the keybaord layout but after that it was very easy to get around., out of the box the phone goes through a simple setup with you & you receive messages from orange with the sim updates etc., orange charge 5 pound a month on pay & go for the blackberry internet service which allows internet browsing & email etc. you can also use msn & facebook which is fantastic if you love to keep up with what you're friends are doing, you can either setup a blackberry email address or link your existing email account with the blackberry service either way you choose you'll never miss that important email as they are pushed straight to your phone as soon as they arrive., the phone also has the usual functions such as calender, alarm clock...

Blackberry Pearl? More of a diamond...
Advantages: Does most things it should simply and well whilst still being phone sized
Disadvantages: Viewing some attachments is virtually impossible
...I've had a number of phones for Business and Pleasure, this is the first one that does it all for me. Let me run you through yesterday.
I am awoken at 6ish by my blackberry, it's a good friend as it allows me to set the alarm for weekdays only - I used to hate it when my phone would wake me at 6am on the weekends.
I'm in the car getting a lift to the station from the lovely wife and on the way I can look at my day through the pushed calendar at work. I also get a blackberry instant message from a mate asking if I want to go for lunch. Nice!
On the train to work I look at the emails to see what I'm going to face when I get to the office. Not much to worry about so I fire up the brickbreaker, the 'pearl' in the middle has taken some getting used to with brickbreaker but I'm starting to get some decent scores. More seriously...

Don't be scared, it's only a Blackberry Pearl
Advantages: instant emails, easy to use, slim
Disadvantages: camera, quality of the music played back
...As I'm going for Business advisor at work, thought I would make myself more familiar with the Blackberry family. I asked my boss if I would borrow the demo phone The Blackberry Pearl or 8100 for awhile so I could learn and mess around with it to figure out the settings and so on. To be honest, I've never liked Blackberry phones but have I changed my mind? Let's see.
First of all, what are Blackberry's? Some people call them mobiles that can send emails, others call them PDAs, other just think they are a fancy mobile with a qwerty keypad. Blackberry's website states "A wireless email solution for mobile professionals."
So why would some choose a Blackberry when they are so many phones on the market that do emails now and to some point, I agree but most phones have what we call pull email and the Blackberry uses push email. I hear you...

Blackberry Pearl: A Blackberry virgin's views
Advantages: Good Looking, Slim, Simple To Set Up, Single device for all communication!
Disadvantages: Camera not great, Not 3G so relatively slow web browsing
...which did all that my previous phone did (a K750i) plus the email functionality. Ideally I was looking for a 3G phone, but in the end I sacrificed this because the Pearl sounded (and looked) rather fancy... I was also ready for a change - there seemed to be a big PC/Apple Mac-type divide between Blackberry users and non-Blackberry users, so I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.
Long story short, it still cost me (well, my company) £90 as part of the upgrade. I'm sure you will find plenty of operators offering it for free with nre contracts / upgrades. It also cost an extra £11 or so per month, for the data allowance. Not being in the know about these things, this may be a good or bad deal - perhaps some of you know better?
So, I had the handset ordered and eagerly waited for its arrival.
Out of the box, first impressions were...

Blackberry Pearl
Advantages: Screen clarity, MP3 Player, Wireless Synch, Solid and Strong
Disadvantages: Keyboard too small
...I replaced my old "large" Blackberry with the peal a few months ago. I'm a total Blackberry convert and cannot imagine using any other type of device. If you're a serious busines user and email is important to you, you should have one.
I also invested in a hosted exchange mailbox and my Pearl synchronises wirelessly in real time with my inbox, calendar, contacts, notes and tasks from Microsoft Outlook on my PC.
It's totally seamless in it's operation, and works perfectly as a business tool.
I upgraded to The Pearl for the additional features. The MP3 player is superb and a match for my IPOD in every respect, in fact the sound quaility may be a little better. The camera is really very good quality, and I can use it to take photos for my work as an estate agent when I forget the "real" camera.
I love the new high definition screen...

Blackberry Pearl 8100 Review - Great Smartphone!
Advantages: Blackberry functionality, great looking, features for both business and consumer use
Disadvantages: Interface is perhaps a little dated
...Research in Motion (RIM) have been around for almost ten years, creating fantastic corporate wireless devices like no other. Not surprising then, that in 2007, the number of Blackberry users reached 8 million and is continually on the rise. Originally aimed at large corporations with the Blackberry's appealing wireless email services and corporate functionality such as calendar, contacts and tasks synchronisation, Blackberry have now created a device which goes even further and offers a few more consumer friendly features.
Aimed at both business users and consumers simultaneously,
Blackberry have done a good job at being able to get the right balance between the two very different types of users. The Pearl is the first Blackberry device to feature multimedia features such as a built in camera with a flash, music and video playback...

Blackberry Pearl - A truly cracking phone!
Advantages: Being able to check your emails whenever you want
Disadvantages: The quality of the camera isnt all that good
...My contract was about to run out in February and I needed a new phone quickly, I had heard about the blackberry pearl before but hadn't really looked into purchasing one, I have to admit I was probably conned into buying the pearl when I went in to browse the phones but I have to say that it is the best phone I have ever bought. I've never had a phone with email capabilities before and now I don't know how I ever lived without it, it makes my life so much easier being able to keep up to date with people whenever I like.
I'm currently signed up to orange blackberry talk which gives me unlimited internet and I really recommend this as some providers give a measly capped limit which you will probably go over if you use the internet/email as much as I do.
Another great advantage of the blackberry is the sheer amount of applications that...

Blackberry Pearl, mixed opinions
Advantages: Great Signal, Email, Blackberry Messenger, Half-QWERTY, Good Camera.
Disadvantages: Bad Lock Feature, Repeated "sim card error".
...The blackberry pearl is a compact smartphone with all the capabilities of it's lager counterparts. The only downside I have experienced is a repeated "sim card error" which apparently cannot be solved, it is rather frustrating and the only "temporary" solution I have found is to turn the phone of and back on again.
Other than this one minor issue the phone lives up to it's name. It maintains fantastic signal pretty much anywhere is easy to set up and easy to use. The half-QWERTY keyboard makes typing quicker (once you master the technique), meaning those emails take just minutes to reply. The lock feature is benificial to help protect your privacy, however I have often found myself on the verge of dialing the emergency services accidentally - not too good. An easy alternative to the lock feature is the standby system which helps...

Not quite a Pearl, but certainly not a dud.
Advantages: A great phone. Does exactly what its meant to.
Disadvantages: Awful (and I mean truly awful) booklets and info. Setting up a nightmare
.... I might not be an engineer with a degree, but I'm pretty clued up and do understand a lot of things easily.
However, the information booklets and leaflets that came with this phone are a huge letdown. Not only Orange's, but also unfortunately Blackberry's. I believe the Pearl is also available on O2, so I don't know how their information sheets might compare - but it does still leave Blackberry's booklets being far short of the mark. And for a company of this type I find it surprising. This means the set up became a nightmare.
I've used WAP services on a mobile phone before, and also used Wi-Fi services on other hand held devices, and yet it took us 2 days, 4 phone calls to Orange, numerous looks at Blackberry's site, and finally a private forum (message board) to get the information we needed to get our phone activated so we could...

First BlackBerry is a BlueBerry
Advantages: SureType half-QWERTY keyboard fantastic for texting, WiFi browsing, Applications, thin build
Disadvantages: No 3G, poor camera, need to pay £5pm for BlackBerry Internet when not in WiFi area
...Being my first BlackBerry, I was a little excited, but also nervous about being thrown into the world of Smartphones.
Usually reserved for the business types, Orange (other networks are available) have now included the BlackBerry Pearl as part of their PAYG service (however, I am using mine on contract).
The phone is very sturdy, and includes a half-QWERTY keyboard, which takes a little getting used to, but once you start typing, texts become the easiest thing in the world - especially with the use of the SureType system, which intuitively learns your words and suggests words for you - much like a better T9 system.
The screen is a decent size, and the phone itself is really thin and includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, so you can use any headphones to listen to your tunes! It also supports up to 8GB of Micro SD memory, so is a great...
