A bleak Blackpool hotel
Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review
...'t much better than the hotel. It was very run down. There were many hotels and bars closed up and even the odd one burnt down! The weather was very bleak which didn't help!
There are lots of places to go with a family in blackpool though including the zoo which is at Stanley Park, the Tower which has the circus and a soft play area, the aquarium, the piers which have rides and amusements on and the usual seaside type places like a little wax works attraction. There are certainly places to go but from what we experienced they all looked very sorry for themselves and worse for wear. I thikn the Pleasure Beach and all it's rides was even looking rather sad.
Opinion
This hotel needs a good old re-think from the lay out of the carpark to the run down nature of the bathroom. The staff need to act a bit more professional instead...

Blackpool Revisited
Advantages: Plus ca change
Disadvantages: Plus c'est les memes shows
...pay to leave Blackpool is no less a sign of the times. But to anyone familiar with Blackpool's history, it jars.
*
I've said that Blackpool has always lived for the present, not the past, but on reflection I think this might be wrong. A hundred years ago, it lived for the future.
There was a breath-taking ambition to the town in the Victorian and Edwardian eras that seems to have seeped away through the twentieth century, like air from a deflating tyre. Certainly there was investment: in ever whiter-knuckle rides for the Pleasure Beach, in the Zoo adjacent to Stanley Park, in brighter lights, in new electronic amusement machines. Nevertheless, the impression left is of running to stay in the same place, to keep up rather than to forge ahead. The concomitant concern is that the late 20th century may prove to have been a plateau...

Blackpool Pleasure Beach
Advantages: Great rides, cheaper than some other parks
Disadvantages: Lacks the charm other parks have
...I visited Blackpool Pleasure Beach last year and I thought it was great value for money. The weather in Blackpool wasnt always great during my 4 day stay but this park didnt disappoint where ride were concerned or eating out. The general atmosphere of this park is happy and fun which is great for the family however the atmosphere here is nothing compared to theme parks like Disneyland or Universal Studios, but you get what you pay for with this park in the sense of good rides and entertainment.
To pay in to the park you need to buy wristbands, I think that if you want to get the best out of the park the Ultimate Daily Wristband is the best deal, however if you dont really want to do many rides or are not fit to for various physical reasons the Pleasure Beach Pass will probably be enough for you and then when in the park you can...

A Long Weekend in Blackpool @ the Grand Metropole
Advantages: Clean and generally friendly hotel, very reasonable prices
Disadvantages: Rooms need ventilation
...confirmation email was received. The email address given on the hotel website does not work which was rather worrying and I made sure I kept a note of the reservation number given over the phone. I was also advised at this stage that the check in time was 3pm or after and checkout time was 10am.
On arrival on a hot Friday afternoon, we found that the car park was full to capacity and when I asked at reception where else we could park locally, the very loud receptionist shouted at me that there was parking nearby and started giving me directions as to where to go. Another member of staff approached and interrupted saying that there was somewhere much closer to park and I asked if it was free at which he chuckled and said nothing was free around Blackpool. I was somewhat annoyed at having travelled for 5 hours to be then told there was no parking as...

Blackpool Las Vegas
Advantages: Funny, Tragic, Entertaining
Disadvantages: I cannot think of any
...returns from Las Vegas where he experienced the bright lights and casinos where he found God. Back at his spiritual home, Ripley set up Blackpool's very first Vegas style Chapel Of Love. Shyanne is Ripley's assistant as Ripley carries out themed wedding ceremonies from Dickens to Hogwarts. Ripley is pleased with his business and material possessions and doesn't realize that things are going to change. He has a caravan in the Chapel car park and then he sets his eyes on Kitty De Luxe who was hilted at the altar. Ripley feels sorry for Kitty De Luxe who is not all she seems to be and she is after thieving Ripley's inheritance and livelihood. Will Ripley find out before it is too late? When Ripley's mate dies he inherits his football collections including the Jules Rimet Trophy, but things look bleaker for Ripley and you are left wondering if he...

Disadvantages: None worthy of mention during my two night stay.

If you are heading to Blackpool anytime soon and you are lucky enough to be going kids free then I strongly suggest you take a good look at this hotel as your choice of place to stay!

~ My Blackpool Pleasure ~
Advantages: Pleasure Beach, sealife centre, cost
Disadvantages: Pier amusements
...tempted me however and the prices were no less than £15 which was a bit steep, especially after are expensive walk through the pier.
The Pleasure Beach
It's mission 'make adults feel like children again'. Well this certainly made me feel like a kid again, With any theme park that I tend to go to, I get the excited buzzing feeling of seeing all the rides, the prizes and the big ooo's and aaaa's as you see the people before you going on these rides. Blackpool is quite deceiving as I never realised quite how good the theme park was.
The park is open from March until November, at various times so you would have to check firstly. There website is good for this.
There are two options on the tickets you purchase for the park there are wristbands which costs £30 and these gives you unlimited entry to all the rides or there are tokens...

Go on spoil yourself at Blackpool
Advantages: Great day out for the whole family.
Disadvantages: lone queues
...I am a great fan of Blackpool pleasure beach, I have been going to the park ever since I was a child and I still continue to go now, It is never the same as it was the time before this are all ways getting added or updated, so it?s a new experience each time you go.
The one thing that I can remember about Blackpool Pleasure beach when I was a child was the laughing clown at the parks entrance, this used to scare the hell out of me, so whenever I return I always smile when I still see that same laughing clown sitting there.
Blackpool is great for a weekend break of the occasional family holiday, it has a number of other attractions, such as arcades, the tower, a casino, a sea life center, the north and south piers, shows, go karting, a zoo and not forgetting the pleasure beach.
The pleasure beach has over one hundred rides, which suit...

The North Pier, Blackpool
Advantages: Lots of fresh air, fully accessible by disabled visitors
Disadvantages: A small admission charge
...If you think about the main English seaside resorts then the chances are that they will have a pier. There is something very quintessentially English about seaside piers and in Britain they are largely restricted to England, with a handful in Wales and none at all north of the border in Scotland.
Blackpool in the north west of England is unusual because it boasts three different piers. The North Pier, Central Pier and South Pier. As its name suggests The North Pier has the most northerly location of the three. It is also the oldest pier in the town and at 503 metres long it is also its longest pier.
Eugenius Birch was drafted in to design The North Pier. He had been responsible for the design of Britain's first seaside pier at Margate. This was his second pier project and following its success he would go on to design a further...

The Elgin hotel, Blackpool
Advantages: lovely food and good service from the waiters
Disadvantages: Everthing else about the place
...I have already done a review about Blackpool, and I absolutely love the place, we went to Blackpool two years ago on a family holiday, myself husband and three kids. We booked our holiday through The Belfast Telegraph travel agentsand we went through Ulster Bus tours, the price was £800 approx this included traveling expenses and the hotel.(Bed, breakfast and evening meal). The hotel was the Elgin and we were told that this was a great hotel for families.
Arriving at the hotel
We arrived at our hotel at about 7.30pm and had to que at the reception to get our keys this I didnt mind but our dinner was at 7.45pm and we still had to get our luggage to our room, we got our luggage sorted and went down for dinner, the food was beautiful and the service from the waiters was fantastic.
First impressions of the hotel
Well there was...
